“I think mentally we’re a weak football team and we’re not mentally strong yet, and that’s part of the culture to changing it to what you want,. We’re going to find the guys that quit, and we’re going to find the guys that kept playing and make sure that we keep those guys in there. So there will be some changes come next week.”

Sunday’s List of 13: Wrapping up a college football Saturday

    13) Kentucky 15, Missouri 14— Mizzou got called for pass interference in the end zone on the last play of the game, so Kentucky got another play, threw a 2-yard TD pass, and now Wildcats are 7-1.

Missouri had zero first downs in the second half- none.

    12) Cincinnati 26, SMU 20 OT— Bearcats kicked 41-yard FG at the gun to force OT, then ran back an INT 86 yards for the game-winning TD in overtime. That hasn’t happened much, where a defensive score decided a game in overtime.

    11) Kansas 27, TCU 26— Horned Frogs fumbled on the Kansas 10-yard line in last 2:00, screwing up what would at least have been the game-tying FG.

From 2015-17, Jayhawks were 3-33; this year, they’re 3-5, so big improvement for them.

In their last six games, TCU is -14 in turnovers (2-16).

    10) Iowa State 40, Texas Tech 31— Cyclone fans better enjoy this, because their coach Matt Campbell ain’t going to be in Ames much longer— the big-$$$ people will come calling for him, and soon, then the Iowa State revival will be in jeopardy.

This game was 31-all with under 5:00 left when Tech got called for intentional grounding in their own end zone, which out ISU up 33-31. On the ensuing series, Cyclones had 3rd-and-9 but threw a 48-yard TD pass, putting the game out of reach.

Lot of points for a game with two freshman QB’s playing.

    9) Clemson 59, Florida State 10— Oy. This is the worst Florida State team since Bobby Bowden got to Tallahassee over 40 years ago. Willie Taggart needs to have a seriously positive run of good recruiting; this game tied a 49-0 loss to Florida in 1973 as the worst loss in FSU history.

    8) Penn State 30, Iowa 24— Iowa had the ball on Penn State’s 3-yard line with 3:17 left, but threw a hideous INT where instead of calling a timeout to get organized, Iowa’s QB ran a play and QB/WR weren’t on the same page, and Penn State got the clinching INT.

Hawkeyes had two safeties in first 16:39 of this game; don’t see that a lot; Iowa’s punter also threw a TD on a fake FG. Rough day for Iowa’s QB; in the first half, they ran a play action fake and had a TE wide-open (by 20 yards) for an easy TD, but the QB overthrew the pass.

    7) Upsets of the Week:
    — Oregon State (+23.5) 41, Colorado 34
    — Kansas (+13.5) 27, TCU 26
    — California (+10.5) 12, Washington 10
    — Georgia Southern (+8) 34, Appalachian State 14
    — Northern Illinois (+7.5) 7, BYU 6
    — Kentucky (+7) 15, Missouri 14
    — Charlotte (+6.5) 20, Southern Miss 17
    — Northwestern (+6) 31, Wisconsin 17

    6) Georgia Tech 49, Virginia Tech 28— We mentioned how Yellow Jackets didn’t complete a pass in this game Thursday; last college team to score 40+ points in a road game without completing a pass? Ohio Bobcats, in 2002, in a 50-0 win at Kent State.

    5) Oregon State 41, Colorado 34 OT— Horrific loss for Colorado; Buffs led this game 31-3 with 9:00 left in third quarter, but lose as a 23-point favorite.

    4) Wake Forest 56, Louisville 35— Few years ago, Louisville coach Petrino pulled a scholarship from a RB named Matt Colburn right before Signing Day, leaving the kid without a place to play ball. Wake Forest wound up signing him; Saturday, Colburn ran for 202 yards and three TD’s……against Louisville.

    3) Arizona State 38, USC 35— Go-ahead TD was a 92-yard punt return for a TD by N’Keal Harry late in 3rd quarter where USC appeared to have lot of big guys covering the punt— lot of numbers in the 70’s chasing a very fast guy, which seldom ends well for the team that kicked.

Trojans are 4-4; the natives are restless. coach Helton’s seat is very hot- they scored 35 points with their 3rd-string QB playing, but one TD was a punt return, another a trick play.

    2) Georgia 36, Florida 17— Dawgs outgained Florida 429-275, and the Gators had won five in a row coming in. All seven of Georgia’s wins are by 14+ points. Top of the SEC is a meat grinder.

    1) LA led 4-0 after six innings, but the Dodger bullpen imploded and now Boston leads the World Series 3-1, with Game 5 tonight.

Tuesday’s List of 13: Nobody asked me, but…….

      13) Rough week to be a coach in Cleveland; Browns fired Hue Jackson Monday, as well as OC Todd Haley. DC Gregg Williams is now the interim coach.

Freddie Kitchens is the new OC; saw an NFL Films segment on Kitchens Monday, on how beloved he is by players he has coached. In these turbulent times, it was great to see.

      12) Cleveland Cavaliers started 0-6, then quickly fired coach Tyronn Lue, like it was Lue’s fault that Lebron James skipped town. What did they think was going to happen? Lue gets $13M to take a hike, so at least he walks away with a championship ring and a smile on his face.

      11) Terry Francona, John Farrell and Alex Cora all won the World Series in their first year managing the Red Sox.

      10) Mets hired agent Brodie Van Wagenen to run their franchise; not sure if that is a good idea or not, but Van Wagenen’s wife’s stepfather is Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, so he has that going for him.

      9) Dallas Cowboys fired offensive line coach Paul Alexander less than halfway into his first season with the team, the first time HC Jason Garrett fired an assistant coach during a season.

Former Cowboys OL Marc Colombo, who had served as assistant OL coach since 2016, will take over as OL coach. A former Cowboys’ OL coach, 75-year old Hudson Houck is back to work with Colombo and the offensive staff in an advisory role.

USC also fired their offensive line coach Monday; HC Clay Helton is taking over play calling duties, too.

      8) Buccaneers named Ryan Fitzpatrick as its starting QB for Sunday’s game at Carolina.

      7) On Sunday, Los Angeles became the first city ever to host an MLB (Dodgers), NFL (Rams), NBA (Clippers), and NHL (Kings) game, all on the same day. Those games all happened within five miles of each other.

      6) Syracuse football team is ranked in the Top 25 for the first time since 2001.

      5) The Mets hired Yoenis Cespedes’ agent to run their franchise; he has never run a ball club before, but obviously has dealt with the Wilpons before, dealing with the Cespedes contract.

I’m guessing that behind closed doors, the Mets’ front office would make a great reality show, and that isn’t a compliment.

      4) Game 3 of the World Series lasted 7:20; in 1939, New York swept the Reds 4-0 in the Series- the four games COMBINED lasted 7:04. Seriously.

Boston’s 1-4 batters Friday went a combined 0-28 at the plate; the most hitless AB in any baseball game – regular or postseason, since 1920 by a team’s 1-4 hitters was 0-24 by the 1963 Milwaukee Braves against the Houston Colt 45’s (now the Astros).

      3) It surprised me that no team down 3-0 in a World Series has ever even forced a Game 6, much less won the Series. You’d think by this time, just about everything has happened.

      2) Red Sox won the World Series, won 119 games; their GM west to Western Michigan, a state school. Just thought I’d mention that.

      1) Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts is a free agent; his contract is up. If you owned the Dodgers, would you give him a new deal? Guy just won the NL pennant two years in a row-I’d re-sign him, but the longer he goes without a deal, the more you wonder.

Clemson (-17.5) at Florida State, 59-10

        Top 25 Notes

-- The Pac-12 continues to cannibalize itself, and now only Washington State has a remote shot at a playoff spot. That's because Washington lost again, this time to an unranked California side, while Oregon was curb-stomped by Arizona in the desert by a 44-15 score. Washington State won by a 41-38 score at Stanford, and it's likely that Wazzu, Utah and maybe Washington make the Top 25 rankings this week.

-- It was a battle between ranked teams in the Big Ten, and Iowa-Penn State turned out to be a good game. The Nittany Lions picked up the 30-24 win against the Hawkeyes. Penn State booted a field goal to push the total over (52.5) with 8:24, but they were unable to add to their total as Iowa hung on for the cover.

-- Clemson went down to Florida State and absolutely killed the Seminoles. That's not an exaggeration, either. The 59-10 win was FSU's worst-ever loss on their home field, and it was so bad in the second half that the telecast caught an old man reading a book with no shirt on. Not a pretty scene, literally and figuratively. The mighty have fallen hard in the Panhandle of Florida.

-- In Jacksonville, Florida was dropped in the Cocktail Party by Georgia, setting up a winner-take-all for the SEC East in Lexington. Wait, wuuuuut? Lexington? Yep, Kentucky scratched out an ugly, defensive last-second victory at Missouri, 15-14. Vegas had the Wildcats as 7 1/2-point 'dogs, and for about 55 minutes they looked absolutely correct. But the Wildcats ripped off a punt return for score, then a touchdown with :00 on the clock to steal one in Mizzou. The Wildcats are now 7-1 SU, but still just 4-4 ATS. The 'under' has hit in five in a row for UK.

Big Five Conference Report (ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac-12, SEC)

-- N.C. State-Syracuse was like watching a video game. The total (65) was set rather high for an ACC game, but obviously not nearly high enough. The Wolfpack and Orange exchanged haymakers and this was a three-point game late into the fourth quarter before the Orange pulled away for a 51-41 win and cover. ... Wake Forest took care of Louisville 56-35 for their first ACC victory and just their second cover in eight outings. The 'over' is now 6-1 in the past seven for the Deacs.

-- Michigan State was an underdog at home against red-hot Purdue, but dinged up Sparty told the Boilers to slow their roll. The Spartans held off the Boilermakers 23-13 for just their third cover in eight outings. The 'under' has cashed in a season-high three in a row for MSU. ... Maryland pounded Illinois by a 63-33 count, rebounding after being blanked at Iowa last week. The Terps have alternated straight-up wins and losses and covers and non-covers in each of their first seven games so far.

-- Iowa State took care of business against Texas Tech, 40-31. The Red Raiders fired out to a 10-0 lead, and they had a 17-14 lead at halftime. In addition, it was 31-31 late until Texas Tech's freshman QB was whistled for an intentional grounding call in the end zone for a safety, and then a late interception cost side bettors a cover. ... Oklahoma State rolled out to a 31-14 halftime lead, and they were up 10 after three on Texas. The Longhorns cut the lead to three, but could get no closer, losing 38-35. With the loss the Longhorns are likely eliminated from the playoff conversation, with Oklahoma still alive, although the light is flickering.

-- Oregon State headed to Boulder as 24 1/2-point underdogs, and they fell behind 31-10 heading to the fourth quarter. However, Colorado folded, and they folded hard. The Beavers outscored the Buffs 24-3 in the final quarter, and 7-0 in OT for the miracle victory. Technically, the Beavs are still alive for bowl eligibility, but that will take another miracle. ... Utah stepped all over UCLA by a 41-10 score in the Rose Bowl on Friday night. This game was a disappointment if you were holding an 'over' (54.5) ticket.

-- Mississippi State was a one-point favorite at home against Texas A&M, which raised some eyebrows. The Bulldogs got it done at home, however, pulling away with a 14-0 fourth quarter to win it 28-13. The Aggies are likely still hearing cowbells ringing in their ears. ... Tennessee gave South Carolina all they could handle, but in the end the Gamecocks hung on for the home win, but they never threatened to cover. They're 3-4 ATS, and they haven't had consecutive covers all season. The 'under' is 4-1 in the past five for the 'Cocks.

        Bad Beats

-- The 'under' (52) looked to be in OK shape with just 37 points on the board in Florida-Georgia through three quarters. However, UGA push the total over by just one point with a TD at 4:29 to take a 36-17 lead, which is what the game ended up.

-- If you were holding a moneyline ticket with Southern Methodist, ouch. They were tied up 20-20 with Cincinnati in OT. The Mustangs had the ball first and they were looking to take the lead in the extra session. However, the Bearcats picked it off and returned it for a pick-six to spoil the upset bid and dreams of SMU moneyliners.

-- Florida International-Western Kentucky (54) looked like a certain under, with FIU up 28-3 heading to the fourth quarter. However, Western scored a touchdown and two-point conversion with 1:55 left to make it 48. Still, it should have ended up under, but D'Vonte Price for FIU ripped off a 58-yard touchdown just 20 seconds after the onside kick attempt, turning a sure under into a losing ticket.

-- Going back to Thursday's Sun Belt (Fun Belt!) action, the rawest bad beat of the weekend happened in Statesboro, Ga. Georgia Southern was routing Appalachian State 34-7, scoring a TD with 3:28 to go in regulation. The 'under' (47.5) looked to be in good shape, but the Mountaineers scored with just :10 left to push the total over.

        • 4th Quarter Covers - Week 9
          Joe Nelson

Glancing at the scoreboard won’t tell you the whole story in most games. Here are some of the games that went down to the wire relative to the spread in the fourth quarter last week in the ninth big college football weekend to close October.

Each week there are several teams that cover despite not necessarily deserving it, as well as other teams that played much better than the final score shows.

          Minnesota (+2½) 38, Indiana 31:
Off to a 0-4 Big Ten start after a 3-0 non-conference run, Minnesota played behind backup quarterback Tanner Morgan with strong results, leading 21-9 at halftime and extending that lead to 31-9 through three quarters as the underdog cover seemed all but certain. The Hoosiers hit a big play early in the fourth to cut the margin to 31-15, failing going for two and Minnesota followed with a fumble to hand Indiana good field position. Six plays later the Hoosiers were within a single-score getting a touchdown and the two-point conversion to trail 31-23 with still 10 minutes remaining. The quarterbacks traded interceptions and Minnesota had to punt in rainy conditions to give Indiana the ball back near midfield with about seven minutes remaining. Peyton Ramsey led the touchdown drive and with another successful two-point conversion, the game was tied with about four minutes to go. Minnesota again had a 3-and-out with all the momentum in favor of Indiana but the Hoosiers opted to run three times despite the success in the passing game and didn’t pick up a first down. Minnesota got the ball back with fewer than two minutes on the clock and took a shot on 1st down, connecting for a 67-yard touchdown. Ramsey was sacked on 1st down with Minnesota recovering a fumble to seal the win despite the wild fourth quarter collapse.

          Pittsburgh (+2½) 54, Duke 45:
Duke led 21-10 late in the second quarter before Pittsburgh connected for a 50-yard touchdown pass to climb within four at halftime. Duke led by seven through three quarters before the game was tied. Duke settled for a short field goal with eight minutes remaining to lead by three but Pittsburgh used a nice kickoff return to tie the game with a 48-yard field goal with just over two minutes remaining. Duke was forced to punt and the Panthers managed to score with just five seconds remaining. It didn’t impact the outcome but the Panthers added two points with a safety after a Duke fumble on the final kickoff trying to set-up a miracle return with a lateral.

          Massachusetts (-3½) 22, Connecticut 17:
This line opened as high as -6 but came down steadily throughout the week. A pair of northeastern squads desperate for a win faced off with a surprisingly low scoring first half with just 10 points. Connecticut led 14-9 through three quarters and extended the advantage to 17-9 in the fourth. Massachusetts hit a 67-yard touchdown to climb within two, failing going for two and the tie. Massachusetts forced a 3-and-out on defense and then went 81 yards on its next possession to take a five-point edge which held for the final margin.

          Coastal Carolina (-2½) 37, Georgia State 34:
The Chanticleers were favored by -3½ or -3 much of the week before sliding to -2½ by kickoff. It didn’t seem likely to matter with a 17-0 start for Coastal Carolina. Georgia State made a rally with three third quarter touchdowns to lead 34-27 but Coastal Carolina regrouped in the fourth to tie the game early in the final quarter with a 12-play touchdown drive. Coastal Carolina got the ball back in good field position and after reaching the 5-yard-line settled for a short field goal to lead by just three. Georgia State threatened to extend the game reaching the 36-yard-line but fell short going for it on 4th down.

          Oregon State (+26) 41, Colorado 34:
When a nearly four-touchdown underdog wins outright there generally isn’t against-the-spread drama but Colorado led 31-3 early in the third quarter of this game to sit past the heavy favorite spread. The Beavers didn’t mail it in however and had climbed to within 14 by the first minute of the fourth quarter. Up 14 Colorado opted to go for it on 4th-and-1 just across midfield on its next possession and came up short and Oregon State added a field goal and an eight-point touchdown to suddenly sit within three with seven minutes to go. Colorado reached the Oregon State 10-yard-line before a holding penalty and settled for a field goal to lead by six, allowing Oregon State to seemingly win the game with a touchdown in the final minute. The extra-point was blocked however in a stunning finish. Colorado picked up 39 yards in the final seconds to get off a 53-yard field goal attempt but the kick missed an overtime was needed. The Beavers went first and delivered seven and Colorado was unable to match it.

          Arizona State (+3) 38, USC 35:
USC trailed by 10 at halftime behind Jack Sears but the Trojans scored two touchdowns in 25 seconds of game clock early in the third quarter. Late in the third Arizona State delivered a 92-yard punt return touchdown to lead by three before a tense final quarter. USC opted to go for it on 4th-and-1 from the Arizona State 20-yard-line with about 10 minutes remaining but the Sun Devils got the stop. After a pair of punts Arizona State put the game away with quarterback Manny Wilkins scrambling for a 45-yard touchdown run in the final two minutes. USC would score in the final seconds to close within three but didn’t get the on-side kick attempt.

          Georgia (-7) 36, Florida 17:
Florida dug a hole with early turnovers in the big SEC East matchup but only trailed by six at halftime. The Gators briefly took the lead in the second half but Georgia added nine points to lead 23-14 through three quarters with the field goal for Georgia coming after a Florida fumble at its own 1-yard-line as Georgia had a 3-0 turnover edge in the game. Florida added a field goal in the fourth to sit within the number down by six but the Bulldogs turned in two late touchdown drives to win by 19 points.

          Kentucky (+7½) 15, Missouri 14:
Missouri led 14-3 through three quarters and appeared to get the stop of the game holding Kentucky on 4th-and-short from the 3-yard-line halfway through the fourth quarter to hold the 11-point edge for the home favorite. Missouri looked to burn some clock with the lead and the limited Kentucky offense, running the ball three times before punting but the Wildcats got back in the game with a 67-yard punt return touchdown. Kentucky went for two and failed but was within the number down five. Kentucky would get the ball back with just over four minutes remaining but had an interception taking a deep shot. Missouri only was able to burn a minute of clock and had an incomplete pass to stop the clock on 3rd-and-2. Kentucky was punned at its own 19 with just over a minute remaining and took a sack on 1st down. The Wildcats were able to get down the field and eventually wound up with an untimed down from the 2-yard-line after a pass interference call. Terry Wilson hit C.J. Conrad for the winning score.

          Houston (-10) 57, South Florida 36:
The big AAC showdown lived up to its billing with a back-and-forth affair. Houston led 28-21 at halftime but South Florida got five points early in the third quarter with a safety and a short field goal to climb within two on a spread that climbed from +7½ to +10. 21 points were exchanged in the rest of the third quarter as Houston led 43-36 heading into the fourth. Houston would pull away in the final frame with two touchdowns while South Florida had two fourth quarter turnovers as the Cougars escaped with the cover in a game with 1,149 total yards.

          Penn State (-5) 30, Iowa 24:
The line on this game was near -6 most of the week but hit -6½ and -5½ at times before landing at -5. The underdog was promising as Iowa took a 12-0 early lead but Penn State battled back to reach a 17-17 tie by halftime. Penn State took over in the third quarter with a 51-yard run from Trace McSorley and a long field goal for a 10-point advantage. Iowa got the break it needed to get back in the game with a pick-6 in the fourth quarter to trail by three but a long kickoff return put Penn State in business to extend its lead though the Lions ultimately settled for a short field goal to lead by six, right on the number for many. Iowa reached the Penn State 3-yard-line on its next possession but Nate Stanley was intercepted on 1st-and-goal. The Hawkeyes got a final opportunity and went 48 yards in the final minute but stalled just across midfield and ran out of time.

          Iowa State (-6) 40, Texas Tech 31:
The spread on the Cyclones climbed from -3½ to -6 and it looked like it might matter as a Texas Tech tied the game in the fourth quarter with a fumble recovery touchdown. The Cyclones got an interception later in the fourth quarter to keep the game tied and then after pinning Texas Tech deep, Iowa State took the lead with a safety. The 33-31 edge wasn’t enough to cover but Iowa State hit a 48-yard touchdown pass with just over two minutes to go to lead by nine and then intercepted Alan Bowman again in Iowa State territory to hang on to the win and cover in a key Big XII game.

          UAB (-15½) 19, UTEP 0:
The winless Miners attracted some attention as this spread fell from opening at -17½. UTAB led 10-0 in the first quarter but did not score again until a third quarter safety and the Blazers led just 12-0 well into the fourth quarter. UTEP missed a field goal in late in the third but wasn’t a significant scoring threat and with four minutes remaining UAB snuck past the spread with a late touchdown.

          Washington State (+3) 41, Stanford 38:
Perfect ATS this season, Washington State was dogged at Stanford and trailed by 11 at halftime and by seven through three quarters. Washington State tied the game early in the fourth and then stopped Stanford going for it on 4th down in long field goal range with nine minutes remaining. Washington State converted a similar 4th down try on its next possession and eventually found the end zone to go up by seven with four minutes to go. Stanford answered and tied the game with more than a minute remaining but Washington State did enough to hit a 42-yard field goal to take a three-point lead. Stanford reached midfield in the final seconds but ran out of time as the Cougars took the Pac-12 North lead.

          Tulane (-2) 24, Tulsa 17:
Tulsa never trailed in this game until the final score but was unable to pull away despite having a 10-point lead in the second half. Tulane tied the game with 12 minutes to go and then Tulsa fumbled halfway through the fourth quarter in Tulane territory. Quarterback Justin McMillan broke free for a 39-yard touchdown run with fewer than four minutes to go to give Tulane its first lead in the game and Tulsa was unable to answer, going backwards after reaching Tulane territory on its final drive.

          UL-Lafayette (+3) 47, Arkansas State 43:
UL-Lafayette never trailed in the first three quarters but Arkansas State hit a 73-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth to move in front 35-34. UL-Lafayette answered quickly but Arkansas State would respond as well, making its two-point conversion to go up three after the Ragin’ Cajuns were unable to get its own conversion attempt on the previous score. UL-Lafayette burned nearly five minutes in 11 plays before turning in the game-winning touchdown with just over a minute to go.

          Boise State (-10) 48, Air Force 38:
These Mountain West foes were tied at halftime before Boise State pulled ahead by 10 early in the fourth quarter. Air Force cut the margin to three with five minutes to go but the Broncos responded with a 61-yard touchdown pass to close right on the number with a 10-point win.

          Mississippi State (-1) 28, Texas A&M 13:
There were many possible outcomes with the Bulldogs leading by one through three quarters with the spread on this game bouncing around before kickoff. Mississippi State went up by eight early in the fourth quarter and with just over two minutes remaining sealed the win with an interception in the end zone to hold A&M off the board. Two plays later the Bulldogs got a long run from Nick Fitzgerald to pad the final margin.

          Notre Dame (-22½) 44, Navy 22:
Notre Dame led 27-0 at halftime but Navy put forth a good effort in the second half to put up 22 points, climbing to within two scores early in the fourth quarter with a two-point conversion successful. The Irish answered to lead by 22 while Navy turned it over in Notre Dame territory on its next two possessions. Notre Dame didn’t add points as Navy barely held on with an underdog spread that dipped from 24 to 22½.

                • LSU's odds improve slightly for college football clash vs. big fave Alabama
                  Patrick Everson

Tua Tagovailoa's unbeaten and top-ranked Alabama squad opened as a hefty 15-point road favorite at No. 4 LSU. However, a little early action on the Tigers tightened that number a tick to 14

The highly anticipated, hotly debated College Football Playoff rankings debut on Tuesday night, followed at the end of the week by some matchups that will be key to future CFP releases. We check in on the opening lines and early action on four Week 10 tilts, with insights from Cameron Coombs, supervisor at The SuperBook at Westgate.

No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide at No. 4 Louisiana State Tigers (+15)

Despite playing on the road against a top-five outfit, Alabama is a huge favorite for this Saturday night SEC showdown. The Crimson Tide (8-0 SU, 5-3 ATS) have beaten all their foes by at least 22 points, including a 58-21 shellacking of Tennessee as 29.5-point road favorites in Week 8. Alabama had a bye in Week 9.

Louisiana State stumbled in Week 6 at Florida, but rebounded on its home field by upsetting Georgia in Week 7. In Week 8, the Tigers (7-1 SU, 5-3 ATS) posted a 19-3 victory over Mississippi State as 5-point home faves. Like Alabama, LSU had a bye in Week 9.

“We have not received much action on this so far. The line has steamed down a little bit,” Coombs said. “I think it’s due to the big matchup. As the week goes on, I assume we will see a lot of Alabama money, as we do every week. Who knows, maybe the Alabama quarterback (Tua Tagovailoa) will play past the first half.”

No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs at No. 12 Kentucky Wildcats (+9.5)

Georgia had a bye in Week 8 to regroup after its upset loss at LSU, then got a key neutral-site win in Week 9. The Bulldogs (7-1 SU, 4-4 ATS) went to Jacksonville as 7-point favorites against Florida and left with a 36-17 victory.

Kentucky is certainly one of the surprise teams of the season and still controls its own destiny in the SEC East. The Wildcats’ only loss was at Texas A&M in overtime in Week 6. In Week 9, Kentucky (7-1 SU, 4-4 ATS) got a TD on the final play of the game for a 15-14 victory at Missouri catching 7.5 points.

“This line hasn’t moved at all, and we have seen any significant wagers on it,” Coombs said. “I want to see how Georgia comes out and plays. The Bulldogs’ game against Florida was much closer than what the scoreboard said.”

No. 13 Penn State Nittany Lions at No. 5 Michigan Wolverines (-10)

Michigan is running perfect since its Week 1 loss at Notre Dame. The Wolverines (7-1 SU, 5-3 ATS) enter this Big 10 showdown off a bye week, after dumping Michigan State 21-7 giving 7.5 points on the road in Week 8.

Penn State soiled its season with back-to-back home losses, blowing a big fourth-quarter lead against Ohio State and giving up a last-minute TD against Michigan State. The Nittany Lions (6-2 SU, 5-3 ATS) followed with a pair of close wins, edging Iowa 30-24 as 5.5-point home favorites in Week 9.

“Both of Penn State’s losses have been close games, and with Michigan’s defense, I think this will be a close game,” Coombs said. “Throughout the week, I could see the spread dropping.”

No. 3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Northwestern Wildcats (+8)

Notre Dame is right in the thick of the four-team CFP chase, riding a perfect record into Week 10. The Fighting Irish (8-0 SU, 5-3 ATS) rumbled over Navy 44-22 in Week 9, narrowly cashing as 21.5-point faves in a neutral-site game in San Diego.

Northwestern followed a three-game losing streak by winning four in a row. In Week 9, the Wildcats (5-3 SU, 4-3-1 ATS) built a 31-10 lead against visiting Wisconsin and coasted to a 31-17 victory catching 3.5 points at home.

“This is a game we have received some money on. We took a sharp bet at -8, and the line has steamed up since,” Coombs said of action that took the Fighting Irish from -8 to -9.5. “I think the line will continue to go up. Notre Dame is a powerhouse this year, and I’m not sure Northwestern will be able to keep up with the Irish.”

                  • Early Line Moves - Week 10
                    October 30, 2018
                    By BetDSI

College Football Week 10 Opening Line Report

Where has the early money gone in college football for Week 10? Bettors are being somewhat cautious early this week, as there are not as many big line moves as normal. Bettors did really well this past week in the NFL and didn’t have as much success in college, so perhaps that is why there has not been as much early live movement for Week 10. Let’s look at some of the big live moves for Week 10 and a couple of moves on marquee games.

                    Odds per BetDSI

                    Week 10 Early Line Moves

Western Michigan pick to -2 vs. Ohio

Bettors are backing Western Michigan in this contest against Ohio. The Broncos are 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the MAC, while Ohio is 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference. This game looks even, but Western Michigan is at home and bettors like the Broncos, as the line has moved from a pick to -2.

South Carolina +1 to -1 at Mississippi

This game is similar in some respects to the previous game, as both teams look even. The Gamecocks are 4-3 overall, while the Rebels are 5-3. The difference in this situation is that bettors are backing the road team. South Carolina has played better in the SEC than has Ole Miss, but both teams are very much in bowl contention. Bettors like South Carolina in this contest.

UAB -19.5 to -21.5 vs. UTSA

Bettors like UAB at home this week as they take on UTSA. The Blazers have been one of the best teams to bet in college football this season. They are 7-1 SU and they are 7-1 ATS. Texas San Antonio is 3-5 this season. You may not even be aware just how good UAB has been defensively this season. They are 3rd in the country in fewest points allowed at just 13.2 points per game. It is also worth noting that UAB has been an excellent team to bet under the total, with seven of their eight games going under. Bettors are laying the points with UAB in this game.

                    Marquee Game Line Moves

There is no question that the biggest game so far this season is Alabama at LSU, but that line has not moved off the opening number of Alabama laying -14. There was a bit of action toward LSU, as the number went to 13.5, but it went right back to 14. Let’s look at a couple other big games for this week.

Kentucky +10 to +9.5 vs. Georgia

This is a bit of a strange line move. The Wildcats were fortunate last week to get past Missouri and they were getting a touchdown in that game. They are at home this week, but they are playing a superior Georgia team. Bettors like Kentucky in this game, but it seems strange. Both Kentucky and Georgia come into this game at 7-1, but Georgia is considered a team that can challenge Alabama, while Kentucky is considered an outsider. It should be noted that Kentucky’s only loss this season came to Texas A&M, while Georgia’s only defeat came to LSU.

Notre Dame -7 to -8 at Northwestern

This is an intriguing game, as the Fighting Irish face a tough road test at Northwestern. Notre Dame is in position to make the College Football Playoff, but only if they run the table. Most people believe just one loss will end Notre Dame’s chances. The Fighting Irish rolled over Navy last week, while Northwestern looked really good in a win over Wisconsin. The Wildcats started very poorly this season, as they went 1-3, but Northwestern has won their last four games to get to 5-3. The Wildcats are leading the Big Ten West with a conference mark of 5-1 and they are in a great position to play in the Big Ten title game against Michigan or Ohio State. The Wildcats will be playing this game at home, but bettors are backing Notre Dame early in the week. This line move seems a bit strange, as Northwestern is rolling right now.

                    • Power 5 Top Wagers - Week 10

NCAA Football - Week 10 Power 5 Best Bets

As the regular season hits its stretch run, these games mean a ton to the teams in contention for their conference crowns and the College Football Playoff. The motivation will be high but only one team can emerge victorious in each matchup.

Here is a look at some of the best bets among the Week 10 Power 5 matchups in NCAA football wagering:

                      Odds Analysis - per BookMaker.eu

The University of Arizona pulled off an unlikely upset last time out by throttling Oregon. Running back J.J. Taylor was dominant, carrying the ball 30 times for 212 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Arizona hosts Colorado this week and has clearly found something. The Wildcats are 3.5-point favorites and the choice to cover against a Buffaloes team that is solid but not dominant.

The Purdue Boilermakers have been up and down the past few weeks. They picked up a huge home win over Ohio State but then lost last time out on the road to Michigan State. Purdue is back home against the Iowa Hawkeyes this week. The Boilermakers are the choice to cover as 3-point favorites.

The Kentucky Wildcats have put together a great season, as they won a squeaker last time out to improve to 6-1. They get to host the Georgia Bulldogs in a critical SEC clash on Saturday, but the oddsmakers aren’t giving Kentucky a lot of love. Georgia is the 9-point road favorite, and even at that spread is the right pick. The Bulldogs are going to prove Kentucky is not in their league.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish is a double-digit road favorite against the Northwestern Wildcats. Notre Dame is ranked No. 3 nationally and knows it has a great chance to compete in the College Football Playoff by running the table the rest of the way. Notre Dame should win this game but a 10-point spread on the road is too high. Northwestern is the pick to cover.

The Washington Huskies hoped to be a national title contender but have fallen off lately. They lost last time out to California by an ugly score of 12-10 and return home looking for answers. Quarterback Jake Browning was benched against Cal but will return to his starting role against the Stanford Cardinal. Stanford has been struggling too this season. The Huskies are the 9.5-point favorites and are the pick to get back to the right formula with a blowout win. Take Washington to cover in this one.

One of the largest spreads you will see in a Power 5 matchup features the Clemson Tigers as the 38.5-point favorite against the Louisville Cardinals. Clemson is going to dominate this game but it’s so hard to choose a team that is this big of a favorite against a large-conference foe. The Cardinals are the pick to cover as the second half will be unpredictable once Clemson takes out its starters.

The most anticipated game of Week 10 will be the heavyweight showdown between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the LSU Tigers. Alabama is on the road in this one but is still listed as the heavy 13.5-point favorite.

It’s surprising spread as LSU is ranked No. 4 in the country and has only one loss all season. Despite that, Alabama is the clear best team in the country and the oddsmakers have continued to respect them even against solid foes. While the Crimson Tide is the better team and should pull out this win, the spread is too high.

LSU is the best pick of the week to cover as the Tigers are at home and have a talented defense in NCAA football gambling.

NCAA Football Pick: LSU Tigers to cover as 13.5-point underdogs against the Alabama Crimson Tide

                      • Games to Watch - Week 10

College Football Week 10: Games to Watch

Without a single game being played, Tuesday, October 30 may yet still prove to be the most important date on the college football calendar thus far. That is when the playoff committee will release their first set of rankings, and you can bet that at least one set of fans are not going to be pleased at the outcome. The good news is that there are still a few weeks left to make an impact on the committee, and perhaps none bigger than Week 10.

We have a series of games that could well decide who faces who in the up coming conference championship games, so let’s get right to the best games in Week 10 of the college football season with all odds, props and futures for each game sponsored by YouWager.eu.

                        No. 6 Georgia Bulldogs (-9½ -110) at No. 11 Kentucky Wildcats (+9½ -110)

The battle for the SEC East ends here, as the winner of this one will be in Atlanta at the end of the season to play for the SEC Championship, as well as a potential playoff spot. Both teams are 7-1 on the year, with those losses coming in conference play. The Bulldogs come into this one on the heels of a big win over Florida last weekend, while the Wildcats needed a pair of late TD’s against Missouri to stay alive in the division. Georgia come into this one as a solid favorite and should end up being the team that represents their division in the conference final.

                        No. 12 West Virginia Mountaineers (+2 -110) at No. 15 Texas Longhorns (-2 -110)

Both of these teams are now out of the playoff picture, but there is still the Big 12 Championship to be taken care of. The Mountaineers and Longhorns are tied at 4-1 with the Oklahoma Sooners at the top of the Big 12 standings, so it’s more than fair to suggest that this will be an elimination game in the race to be kings of the conference. The Longhorns are going to need to find a way to bounce back after losing a thriller to the Oklahoma State Cowboys last week, and they will be facing a similarly tough offense versus the Mountaineers. I am looking at the OVER in this one.

                        No. 14 Penn State Nittany Lions (+10 -110 ) at No. 5 Michigan Wolverines (-10 -110)

The Nittany Lions have already lost their opportunity to be in the playoffs, but they would love nothing more than to derail the Wolverines. Michigan have gone unbeaten since losing in Week 1, but they still need to get through this game as well as an upcoming tilt with the Ohio State Buckeyes if this season is to be considered a success. I’m not so sure that the Wolverines can get through the rest of the regular season unscathed, although I do believe they will come up with the win in this one.

                        No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide (-14 -110) at No. 4 LSU Tigers (+14 -110)

By the time Saturday night comes to an end, we could well know who will be meeting up in the SEC Championship Game. The Georgia/Kentucky game will decide the East, while this one could very well decide the West. The Alabama Crimson Tide have been untouchable to this point in the season, although there are some who will suggest that they have not yet truly been tested. They will get that test this weekend, as the Tigers look to be for real after their recent thumping of Georgia. Alabama are just too good, which is why I like them to win.

                          October 30, 2018
                          By BetOnline.ag

                          Tuesday College Football Best Bet

Miami (OH) at Buffalo (ESPN2, 8:00 p.m. ET)

Football bettors are just at the beginning stages of almost a full month of action where there is either college or NFL football action going every day and we can all thank the MAC Conference for that.

Every year around the start of November, the MAC takes over full ownership of weekday football in college, and it continues this week with five games pitting MAC teams against each other from tonight until Thursday. These aren't just novelty games either, as the MAC made the smart decision years ago to tap into national exposure with Tuesday/Wednesday games and tonight we've got two games to kick off the festivities, with one of them essentially being a battle for 1st place in the East division.

That's the game I'm focusing on tonight as a 3-5 SU Miami Redhawks team could actually find themselves tied atop the division with the 7-1 SU Buffalo Bulls with an outright win. Miami has won this game each of the past two years, so will they make it three in a row? And is that where your money should be going?

BetOnline.ag Odds: Buffalo (-7); Total set at 54

Miami has beaten Buffalo by double-digits the past two years but both times they entered the contest laying chalk. That's not the case tonight as the Redhawks are getting a touchdown this evening as they look to keep their 5-0 ATS run going. Miami is 3-2 SU in those five contests, but both of their outright defeats came by a single point. That's quite a stretch of playing quality football after a rough 0-3 SU start to the season, but it's clear this Redhawks team has made winning in conference play their biggest priority this season and a SU win tonight would put them in the driver's seat for the East title within the division.

However, as attractive as taking those points with Miami tonight looks, that's not where my money is going here. Miami may be in the driver's seat with an outright win tonight, but they've still got to deal with Ohio next week (the third team in the mix for the East crown) and then follow that up with a trip to Northern Illinois to face the current top team in the West division. There is no looking past Buffalo tonight for sure, but chances are an ATS slip up is coming sooner than later for this Miami team given their next three weeks of play. Remember, this is still a 3-5 SU football team that isn't exactly the most consistent bunch out there.

That doesn't mean I'm looking to back Buffalo either as they've quickly become the majorities choice tonight with 80%+ of the action laying the points with the Bulls. That's never a lone reason to not back a team, but considering that this line has floated back and forth between -6.5 and -7.5 the past few days, you'd think that all of that support on Buffalo would bring a more natural increase in Buffalo's price. The fact that it hasn't suggests to me that this side is probably lined where it should be and it will be one that I'll gladly pass on.

It's the total that's grabbed the attention of my bankroll as it's another betting option in this game that's received plenty of one-sided action. Current numbers at VegasInsider.com show 85%+ of the total money has come in on the high side of this number, pushing the opener of 51.5 all the way up to 54 and potentially higher. That's the type of move you tend to expect from one-sided action that hasn't occurred on the side, and while all that 'over' money appears to be heavily respected by oddsmakers to force the bump, it's now created a scenario where you've got to look the other way.

Miami's 3-1 O/U record on the road may be one of the reasons behind the 'over' support, but their last game @ Army only cashed an 'over' ticket because of OT. The Redhawks two road games in MAC play have sailed 'over' the total, but those were also against Akron and Bowling Green squads who have allowed more points than they've scored this year. Buffalo's got nearly a +100 margin in point differential this year (263 points for vs 169 points against), and are tied for 2nd in the conference in points allowed with that 169 number. The Bulls have also not allowed more than 24 points against in four of their last five games overall (ironically the lone outlier came against Army too), so it's not like points are likely to come easy for the Redhawks tonight.

On the flip side of things we've got this Buffalo team that hasn't managed to follow up 30+ point performances with more than 24 points the following week for the past month, and a team that's cashed 'under' tickets in consecutive weeks. Given the stakes this game has – especially for a one-loss Buffalo team that could actually find themselves looking up at “worse” teams in the standings – Buffalo would love to get out to an early lead and then grind away the clock to let their defense bring this home.

With Miami just 17-37 O/U off a SU loss and 1-4 O/U in their last five appearances on Tuesday Night Football, I believe this line has seen too much upward momentum to the point where it is time to go the other way.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) Tyree Jackson threw for 358 yards and three touchdowns - all to Anthony Johnson - and ran for three more scores to help Buffalo beat Miami (Ohio) 51-42 on Tuesday night and remain unbeaten in Mid-American Conference play.

Jackson was 20-of-34 passing with no interceptions. Johnson finished with eight receptions for a career-high 238 yards and Jaret Patterson had 96 yards rushing and a score on 23 carries for Buffalo (8-1, 5-0), which has won four in a row.

Miami's Gus Ragland hit Kenny Young for a 59-yard touchdown and then, less than two minutes later, scored on a 1-yard run to make it 42-all going into the fourth quarter. Patterson's 4-yard TD run put Buffalo back in front with 8:53 to play and, after Miami failed to convert a fourth-and-5 from midfield, Adam Mitcheson's 37-yard field goal nearly five minutes later capped the scoring. The four-year starter became the program's career leader with 45 made field goals.

Ragland completed 20 of 35 for 313 yards and had 16 carries for 53 yards and three scores for Miami (3-6, 3-2).

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (AP) Woody Barrett threw two touchdown passes and ran for another, Jo-El Shaw scored on an 18-yard run with 1:50 to play and Kent State beat Bowling Green 35-28 on Tuesday night to snap its six-game losing streak.

Barrett was 14-of-24 passing for 157 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions and added 77 yards rushing. Shaw finished with a career-high 128 yards rushing and two TDs.

On third-and-6 from near midfield, Barrett ripped off a 34-yard run and, on the next play, Shaw took the handoff up the middle, broke a tackle near the line of scrimmage and raced to the end zone to cap the scoring.

Kent State ended a nine-game skid in Mid-American Conference play.

Bowling Green's Jarret Doege hit Hargrove for a 4-yard touchdown and then connected with Morris for the 2-point conversion to tie it early in the fourth quarter but Kent State answered with a six-play, 75-yard drive to take a 28-21 lead when Barrett threw a 2-yard TD pass to Antwan Dixon with 11:09 to play.

The Golden Flashes (2-7, 1-4) forced a punt on BGSU's ensuing drive, but Barrett's fumble on their next play from scrimmage was recovered at the Kent State 27, setting up a 12-yardTD pass from Doege to Noah Massey that made it 28-all with 5:34 to play.

Kent State ended a nine-game skid in MAC play.

Bowling Green (1-8, 0-5) has lost six straight overall and nine in a row in conference play.

                                Wednesday’s List of 13: Mid-week musings…….

                                13) Hard to believe that Sunday night’s Packer-Patriot game will be only second time that Aaron Rodgers-Tom Brady have faced each other in a regular season game. Green Bay won the first meeting, 26-21 at home four years ago.

                                12) Giants’ backup QB Kyle Lauletta was arrested in New Jersey Tuesday morning for a third-degree offense of eluding police as well as obstructing justice and resisting arrest. Lauletta has a history of dangerous driving, according to the Weehawken PD in New Jersey.

The kid hasn’t taken an NFL snap, but drives a Jaguar and apparently not very well; he wasn’t at practice Tuesday, so doubtful he replaces Eli Manning anytime soon.

                                11) Ben Roethlisberger is playing thru a broken LEFT index finger; non-throwing hand makes it whole lot better, but I’m sure that taking snaps from center still hurts like hell.

                                10) NFL trades at the deadline Tuesday:

                                — Broncos traded WR DeMaryus Thomas to the Texans, who they play Sunday.
                                — Rams acquired pass rusher Dante Fowler from Jacksonville.
                                — Eagles acquired WR Golden Tate from Detroit.
                                — Packers traded RB Ty Montgomery to Houston.

                                9) Buffalo Bills’ QB Derek Anderson (concussion) is out Sunday, meaning that Nathan Peterman gets another start. Line opened at 8.5, is up to 9.5 as I type this (10 at the Wynn), By kickoff on Sunday, line could get to 11 or 12— not lot of support for Peterman out there.

Matt Barkley was signed to be Buffalo’s backup QB; Terrelle Pryor was also signed; he could be a wildcat QB, seeing how he once played QB for the Raiders, before moving to WR. Going to be a long couple months for Bills coaches/fans.

                                8) Denver QB Case Keenum was with the Texans in 2014; apparently that year coach Bill O’Brien told Keenum that he “would never be more than a 3rd string NFL QB.”

Now that Keenum is making $18M a year playing for the Broncos, wonder what he’ll say to O’Brien Sunday when the Texans visit Denver?

                                7) A college football player at Maryland passed away during off-season workouts; the coach was suspended, but Tuesday DJ Durkin got his job back, and not everyone is happy about it.

When Durkin addressed the players for the first time, several players walked out, including some starters. Saturday’s home game with Michigan State should be interesting.

                                6) Marlins’ catcher JT Realmuto has let it be known that he wants to be traded, and will not sign a long-term deal with Miami. He is by far their best player, should bring back a pretty good haul. Good catchers are hard to find.

                                5) Chicago White Sox turned down P James Shields’ 2019 option, paid him $2M to go away; same thing for Milwaukee with Mike Moustakas, Joakim Soria ($1M each).

                                4) This isn’t a criticism or a complaint, just a statement of fact: 41.9% of runs scored this in postseason scored on home runs; during the season, 40.3% of runs scored via taters.

                                3) I don’t think Stephen Curry is getting enough credit for how much he has helped basketball, as a whole; kids see how great a shooter he is and they work more on their games, and now shooting has become so much better. Skilled basketball players are way more fun to watch.

Curry isn’t a dunker; he isn’t huge (6-3, 190), but he is incredibly skilled because he works his butt off on those skills, and that has caught on all over the country. Good for him.

                                2) Klay Thompson was 14-24 from the arc Monday night in Golden State’s 149-124 win over the Bulls, who are not good. 14 treys is one game is an all-time NBA record. Coming into the game, Thompson was 5-36 from the arc for the season.

Golden State led the Bulls 92-50 at halftime…..at HALFTIME!!!!!

How about competing? Chicago has an awful team…..embarrassing.

                                1) On NBA.TV, Isiah Thomas was killing the Bulls at halftime; Chicago’s own PR people put out a tweet mocking the team’s first half. No bueno.
