Game of the Day: Temple at Southern Methodist
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Temple has gone 4-1 against the spread in its previous five conference games.

Temple Owls at Southern Methodist Mustangs (+12.5, 51)

More than two months into the season, Temple finally suffered a loss - and a tough one at that. Still, the 23rd-ranked Owls have their eyes set on big things as they seek a strong rebound performance Friday against host SMU.

The Owls led late against then-No. 9 Notre Dame before suffering a 24-20 home defeat that stung badly but ultimately kept their primary goal intact. “Our goal is to win a conference championship. And at the end of the day, that game has no effect on that," Temple linebacker Tyler Matakevich told the media this week. "So we will watch the film and see what we did wrong and get it corrected, because we have a short week.” The Owls now must contend with a Mustangs team that has given up 112 points in two games against ranked opponents this season. "We've got our work cut out for us this week," SMU coach Chad Morris said to reporters. "We've got an opportunity to play a very, very good football team on a national television stage at home this week. We'll be prepared."

    TV:
    8 p.m. ET, ESPN2.

    LINE HISTORY:
Books opened the Owls as 14-point road faves, but that has since moved to -12.5. The total is down to 51 from the opening 58.5.

    INJURY REPORT:

Temple - RB Jahad Thomas (Probable, ribs), DL Jullian Taylor (Out indefinitely, undisclosed), DL Josian Bronson (Out for season, ankle).

SMU - LB Kyran Mitchell (out for season, undisclosed), DB Horace Richards (out for season, undisclosed), OL Daniel McCarty (out for season, knee), WR James Proche (out for season, eligibility), RB Daniel Gresham (out for season, neck), OL Seaver Myers (out for season, undisclosed).

    WEATHER:
Forecasts are calling for a 19 percent chence of rain and thunderstorms and temperatures in the low 60s.

    WHAT CAPPERS SAY:
"The Owls are coming off a tough loss to Notre Dame, but they should hang their heads high after giving the Irish a heck of a fight."

    ABOUT TEMPLE (7-1 SU, 6-2 ATS, 3-5 O/U):
According to coach Matt Rhule, Temple will be without a "number of starters" against SMU, including center Kyle Friend (knee) and perhaps running back Jahad Thomas (ribs). One player who will be on the field is quarterback P.J. Walker, who scuffled to 13-of-30 for 188 yards against the Fighting Irish as his completion percentage decreased for the third straight game. The loss of Thomas would be huge, as he leads the team with 904 rushing yards and 13 TDs - 245 more yards and 10 more rushing TDs than all of his teammates combined.

    ABOUT SMU (1-7 SU, 4-4 ATS, 5-3 O/U):
The Mustangs' seven defeats have come to teams with a combined record of 42-15, including three teams that are currently undefeated. Matt Davis leads the team in passing (1,779 yards, 14 TDs, four INTs) and rushing (450 yards, seven TDs), while Courtland Sutton is by far the most dangerous receiver on the squad with team highs of 38 catches, 719 yards and nine scores. Darius Joseph is another vertical weapon and needs four catches to move into third place on the school's all-time list.

    TRENDS:

    * Owls are 4-1 ATS in their last five conference games.
    * Mustangs are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 home games.
    * Under is 7-3 in Owls last 10 games overall.
    * Over is 9-2 in Mustangs last 11 games following a ATS loss.

    CONSENSUS:
Seventy-one percent of users are backing the Owls.

Why wiseguys are timing these college football bets perfectly in Week 10

NCAAF power ratings actually make Arizona State a 1-point favorite in this game, so there is value on the Sun Devils as an underdog.

      Spread to bet know

UCF Knights at Tulsa Golden Hurricanes (-16.5)

Tulsa opened -14 over Central Florida, and the early money quickly came in on the home favorite pushing the line up nearly three points. I’m expecting more money to come in on Tulsa, so laying less than -17 now would be a prudent move.

This is simply a play against Central Florida more than anything else. The Knights are 0-9 SU and 1-8 ATS this season. And since George O’Leary stepped down, the team has packed the season in. Central Florida has scored 16 points or less in eight of their nine games while losing their last four games by a combined score of 181-46.

      Spread to wait on

Arizona State Sun Devils (+2.5) at Washington State Cougars

Arizona State has lost back-to-back games with its last being a 61-55 loss to Oregon in three overtimes. But the Sun Devils have had time to get over that defeat as it came on a Thursday night. Washington State is also off a tough loss: a 30-28 defeat to Stanford after blowing a 22-10 second-half lead.

My power ratings actually make Arizona State a 1-point favorite in this game, so there is value on the Sun Devils as an underdog, especially at +3 or more. Arizona State has a little scheduling advantage as well since they had an extra couple of days to prepare for this game. Wait this out, and take Arizona State once this line hits the key number of +3 or higher.

      Total to watch

California Golden Bears at Oregon Ducks (76)

California and Oregon play completely different styles of football. The Golden Bears play a wide-open offense while throwing the football on the majority of their plays. The Ducks run an up-tempo offense that simply wears defenses down as the game goes on.

This total opened at 74 and it was quickly bet up to the current price of 76. The matchup sets up perfectly for a high-scoring game. California’s defense has been shredded for 208 rushing yards per game on the road while Oregon’s defense has been torched thru the air for 318 passing yards per game. Both offenses should have a lot of success, so a shootout is expected Saturday.

Small chance of rain, thunderstorms at SMU Friday

According to weather forecasts, there is a small 20 percent possibility of thunderstorms and rain in Dallas when the Southern Methodist Mustangs host the Temple Owls Friday evening.

There is a 10 percent chance early on, but as the game progresses, the possibility increases to 20 percent. Furthermore, temperatures in Dallas will be in the low-60s.

Books opened the Owls as 14-point road favorites, but that has since moved to -13. The total has dropped all the way to 51 after opening 58.5.

Game of the Day: LSU at Alabama
                ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LSU has posted an ATS record of 6-2-1 in its last nine visits to Alabama.

LSU Tigers at Alabama Crimson Tide (-7, 45.5)

The annual clash between Alabama and LSU almost always has an impact on the SEC West race, but this year’s installment might amount to a national quarterfinal. Both teams cracked the top four in the initial College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday, meaning the winner of Saturday’s showdown at Alabama will maintain an inside track to the national semifinals.

It’s no surprise the fourth-ranked Tigers checked in at No. 2 in the playoff committee’s rankings – at 7-0 they are one of 11 remaining unbeaten teams, including eight in power conferences. The seventh-ranked Crimson Tide’s presence at No. 4 on the committee’s list is a bit more controversial given Alabama’s early loss to Ole Miss, but the Tide have rolled to five straight wins since. Keeping that streak going will require slowing down LSU star Leonard Fournette, who leads the nation in rushing yards (1,352) and rushing yards per game (193.1) and ranks second in rushing touchdowns (15). Alabama has success stopping the run, though, ranking third in the nation in rushing defense (78.5 yards per game).

                TV:
                8 p.m. ET, CBS.

                LINE HISTORY:
Books opened the Tide as 7-point home faves. The total is down to 45.5 from the opening 51.

                INJURY REPORT:

LSU - TE John David Moore (Probable, knee), CB Tre'Davious White (Probable, undisclosed), DT Christian LaCouture (Probable, foot), TE Dillon Gordon (Out for season, Achilles), DT Mickey Johnson (Out for season, undisclosed).

Alabama - OL Dominick Jackson (Probable, ankle), DB Ronnie Harrison (Probable, ankle), QB Blake Barnett (Questionable, undisclosed), K Gunnar Raborn (Out indefinitely, suspension), WR Robert Foster (Out for season, shoulder).

                WEATHER:
There is a 100% chance of rain at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Temperatures will be in the high-50s with wind blowing toward the south end zone at around 6 miles per hour.

                WHAT BOOKS SAY:
"This game has the handicappers a little torn, but it seems that the action is going to reside with LSU plus the 7 points by a slight margin. The line was a solid 6.5 for most of the week, but just jumped to 7 this morning. I don’t see the line moving more than a half point in either direction at this point, but it’s too early to say which way that will be, if at all."

                ABOUT LSU (7-0 SU, 4-3 ATS, 6-1 O/U):
Fournette certainly is the centerpiece of the Tigers’ offense, averaging 25 carries, but quarterback Brandon Harris has been effective when necessary. Harris ranks second in the SEC in passing efficiency thanks to nine touchdowns without an interception and has two dangerous targets in Travin Dural (24 catches, 426 yards, 2 TDs) and Malachi Dupre (21 catches, 397 yards, 5 TDs). The Tigers have been tough against the run but have shown weakness in the secondary, allowing more than 300 yards passing twice and an average of 222.1, ninth in the SEC.

                ABOUT ALABAMA (7-1 SU, 3-5 ATS, 3-5 O/U):
The Crimson Tide perhaps were prematurely written off after a 43-37 home loss to Ole Miss in which they gave up 433 total yards and committed five turnovers. The defense has clamped down in five games since, forcing 12 turnovers – including 10 interceptions – and holding opponents to 246 yards per game during the winning streak. The offense still needs to do a better job of taking care of the ball, having committed at least one turnover in seven straight games, but has stabilized with a commitment to the ground game led by bruiser Derrick Henry (1,044 yards, 14 TDs).

                TRENDS:

                * Under is 5-1 in the last six meetings.
                * Tigers are 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine meetings in Alabama.
                * Road team is 14-5-1 ATS in their last 20 meetings.
                * Crimson Tide are 0-5 ATS in their last five home games.

                CONSENSUS:
Sixty percent of users are backing LSU.

                  Saturday, November 7

Showers in the forecast for Duke-UNC Saturday

Things could get sloppy in Chapel Hill as weather forecasts are calling for an 83 percent chance of rain when the North Carolina Tar Heels host the Duke Blue Devils Saturday afternoon.

Temperatures in Chapel Hill are expected to be around 73 degrees with wind blowing across the field at around six miles per hour during game time.

Books opened the Heels as 8-point dogs with that moving to -7.5. The total is up to 58 after opening 53.5.

Strong chance of rain when Kentucky visits Georgia

According to weather forecasts, there is a 94 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms in Athens, GA when the Georgia Bulldogs host the Kentucky Wildcats Saturday afternoon.

Temperatures in Athens will be in the low 70s with wind blowing toward the east endzone at around five miles per hour during the game.

Books opened the Bulldogs as 14-point home favorites, but that has since moved to 14.5. The total opened at 55 but has risen to 58.5.

UNC riding seven-game winning streak into Duke game

The North Carolina Tar Heels have been one of the surprises of the college football season and host the Duke Blue Devils Saturday afternoon riding a seven-game winning streak.

The Heels have been profitable at the betting window over the course of winning streak, posting a 5-2 record against the spread in those seven victories.

Delaware (Week 4) and Virginia (Week 8) scored ATS wins over the Heels with Delaware cashing as 37.5-point dog in a 41-14 Heels win and Virginia losing 26-13, but coming through as a 16.5-point dog.

Books opened UNC as an 8-point home favorite for Saturday's meeting with Duke, but that has since moved to -7.5.

Visitor has been red-hot in Vanderbilt-Florida series

The visiting team has gone 4-1 straight up and a stellar 5-0 against the spread in the previous five meetings between the Vanderbilt Commodores and Florida Gators. The two will renew acquaintances in Gainesville Saturday afternoon.

Vanderbilt upset the Gators by a score of 34-17, winning outright as 12-point dogs the last time the teams met in Florida (2013). Last season, the Gators posted a 34-10 victory at Vandy as 14.5-point road favorites.

This time around, the Gators are 20.5-point home favorites. The Commodores have been fueled by defense all season long and are fifth in the nation and lead the SEC in third-down conversion defense at 25.2 percent.

Essential Week 10 betting notes for college football's top games

Clemson QB Deshaun Watson earned national offensive player-of-the-week honors last week passing for 383 yards and five touchdowns, and rushing for a score.

Vanderbilt Commodores at (12) Florida Gators (-20.5, 36.5)

                    * The road team has been on fire in this series. Visitors have gone 4-1 straight up and 5-0 against the spread in the previous five meetings between the two teams. Vandy is currently a 21-point dog at Florida.

                    * The 12th-ranked Gators, who have held five opponents to 13 points or fewer, own a two-game lead in the SEC East with a pair of contests remaining after disposing of Georgia 27-3 last week.

Duke Blue Devils at (21) North Carolina Tar Heels (-7.5, 58)

                    * Duke quarterback Thomas Sirk is even a bigger dual threat than UNC's Marquise Williams with 12 touchdown passes and three rushing scores while standing second in the ACC in total offense.

                    * The 21st-ranked Tar Heels boast seven straight victories (5-2 ATS) with a vastly-improved defense and a balanced offense, starting with four wins in league play for the first time since 1997.

                    (9) Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Pitt Panthers (+8.5, 53.5)

                    * This will be Notre Dame's fourth road game and they have been favored in two of those (at Virginia, at Temple). The Irish did not cover the spread in either of those but did cover as 3-point road dogs at Clemson in Week 5.

                    * "I don't know if there's ever a good time to play Notre Dame, am I right?” Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi questioned reporters. “I mean, it's a good football team. It doesn't matter if it's within the first four games or late in the season, it doesn't matter. We have to re-evaluate what we have going and what we've done.”

                    (8) Stanford Cardinal at Colorado Buffaloes (+16.5, 56)

                    * Stanford and Colorado don't meet often, but the Cardinal have dominated the series recently, posting a 4-0 SU and ATS mark in the past four meetings (dating back to 1991).

                    * The Buffs snapped a 14-game Pac-12 losing streak two weeks ago with a 17-13 win at Oregon State, but still are looking for a signature conference victory after dropping a hard-fought 35-31 decision at No. 22 UCLA on Halloween.

Cincinnati Bearcats at (18) Houston Cougars (-9.5, 73)

                    * Cincinnati hasn't beaten a ranked team since Sept. 29, 2012 (Virginia Tech) and hasn't beaten a ranked team on the road since Dec. 5, 2009 (Pittsburgh).

                    * Houston's Greg Ward Jr. (1,955 passing yards and 11 TDs and FBS-best 16 rushing TDs), running back Kenneth Farrow (751 yards, nine TDs) and Demarcus Ayers (56 catches, 713 yards, five TDs) lead an offense that has outscored its last three opponents 135-17 (3-0 SU, 3-0 ATS, 1-2 O/U).

Rutgers Scarlet Knights at (17) Michigan Wolverines (-24.5, 51)

                    * Rutgers is left to search for answers after another blowout loss, this time a 48-10 drubbing to Wisconsin, as the Scarlet Knights have been outscored 97-17 in their last two contests to slip further away from reaching bowl eligibility. "Those scores don't really mean anything to me," Rutgers star receiver Leonte Carroo told reporters. "Anybody can be beaten at any time."

                    * Michigan is bowl eligible after missing the postseason last year but there are some concerns about the offense, which has been held under 300 yards in the last two games and hasn't had a pass play of over 50 yards all season.

                    (3) TCU Horned Frogs at (10) Oklahoma State Cowboys (+5.5, 76.5)

                    * TCU QB Trevone Boykin is a leading Heisman Trophy candidate and has passed for 2,927 yards and 28 touchdowns against just five interceptions while also rushing for 524 yards and six touchdowns. Boykin has thrown at least one touchdown pass in 23 straight games and needs just 235 yards to surpass Andy Dalton (10,314 from 2007-10) as the Horned Frogs' all-time leader in career passing yards.

                    * Oklahoma State has scored 58 or more points three times this season -- topped by 70 against Texas Tech last Saturday -- and are 3-0 ATS in those games.

                    (11) Iowa Hawkeyes at Indiana Hoosiers (+7, 59.5)

                    * Iowa has won five of the past six meetings (3-3 ATS), including a 45-29 victory last season when Indiana QB Nate Sudfeld suffered a season-ending shoulder injury.

                    * Sudfield has passed for 2,049 yards and 14 touchdowns against four interceptions and has been exceptionally good the past two games, throwing for 772 yards and seven touchdowns.

Arkansas Razorbacks at (19) Ole Miss Rebels (-10.5, 54)

                    * The Razorbacks needed four overtimes to reach 54 points in a win over Auburn but leaned on Alex Collins for 173 yards on 16 carries last week. The junior is 40 yards shy of 1,000 on the season and found the end zone at least once in each of Arkansas’ first eight games.

                    * The Rebels were blanked 30-0 by the Razorbacks last season, and coach Hugh Freeze is looking forward to another chance at that defense. “I’m a competitor and an offensive coach,” Freeze told reporters. “As soon as we were able to turn our attention from Auburn, that was on my mind. I like getting another shot at that. It motivates me.”

                    (15) Florida State Seminoles at (5) Clemson Tigers (-10.5, 56)

                    * The Seminoles have no margin for error after a stunning loss to Georgia Tech two weeks ago, and the health of their two most important offensive weapons is in question after running back Dalvin Cook (ankle) and quarterback Everett Golson (concussion) sat out last week's win over Syracuse. Both practiced early this week and are expected to play for FSU.

                    * Clemson QB Deshaun Watson earned national offensive player-of-the-week honors after another outstanding performance last week – passing for 383 yards and five touchdowns, and rushing for a score – and comes into Saturday having completed 70.3 percent of his passes for 1,936 yards and 20 touchdowns.

                    (22) UCLA Bruins at Oregon State Beavers (+17, 57)

                    * UCLA has won 12 of its last 13 games played away from the Rose Bowl and are 8-5 ATS in those 13 games.

                    * The Beavers were held under 14 points for the fourth time this season in last Saturday’s loss to Utah, but there were a few encouraging signs as the offensive line allowed just one sack and freshman linebacker Jonathan Willis recorded a career-high 11 tackles in his first start.

Navy Midshipmen at (16) Memphis Tigers (-9.5, 63.5)

                    * Keenan Reynolds guides Navy’s triple-option attack and is tied with former Wisconsin running back Montee Ball for the NCAA record for career rushing touchdowns (77).

                    * Memphis has won 15 straight games dating back to last season and is 8-6-1 ATS in those games.

                    (6) Michigan State Spartans at Nebraska Cornhuskers (+6, 57.5)

                    * Michigan State has won 20 of its last 21 games against Big Ten opponents. The Spartans are 14-7 ATS in those 21 games.

                    * The Cornhuskers have 13 players listed on the injury report, but coach Mike Riley stated earlier this week he expects at least Armstrong, receiver Alonzo Moore, linebacker Chris Weber, offensive tackle Nick Gates, cornerback Jonathan Rose and safety Byerson Cockrell to play.

Iowa State Cyclones at (13) Oklahoma Sooners (-25, 61)

                    * Iowa State has lost 14 consecutive games against ranked opponents dating back to a 37-25 win over No. 12 TCU on Oct. 6, 2012.

                    * No. 13 Oklahoma has scored 55 or more points in consecutive victories over Kansas State (55-0), Texas Tech (63-27) and Kansas (62-7) heading into Saturday night's Big 12 game against visiting Iowa State. The Sooners are 3-0 ATS and the Over is 3-0 in those games.

                    Auburn Tigers at (24) Texas A&M Aggies (-7, 59.5)

                    * Tigers sophomore defensive end Carl Lawson returned to action last week for the first time since injuring his hip in the season opener and is expected to make more of an impact as he returns to game shape.

                    * Since joining the SEC in 2012, the Aggies have posted a record of 2-1 SU and ATS in three meetings with Auburn.

                    (14) Utah Utes at Washington Huskies (-1.5, 44)

                    * Utes running back Devontae Booker is just 34 yards away from becoming the second player in school history to post two 1,000-yard rushing seasons and coach Kyle Whittingham refers to him as the "focal point of the offense."

                    * Huskies quarterback Jake Browning returned from a one-game absence due to a shoulder injury to notch one of his best performances of the season against Arizona with 263 yards and a season-best four passing touchdowns plus one running score.

Minnesota Golden Gophers at (1) Ohio State Buckeyes (-23, 53.5)

                    * Minnesota is attempting to rebound from a devastating 29-26 loss to Michigan in its first game under Tracy Claeys after the health-related retirement of Jerry Kill. The Golden Gophers had first-and-goal from inside the 1-yard line in the final half minute and allowed about 12 seconds of time to run off the clock before failing to get into the end zone on two attempts.

                    * Ohio State is 10-0 with Jones as the starter and is seeking its 29th consecutive Big Ten victory, which would tie the record set by Florida State (1992-95) for most consecutive conference victories.

                    (4) LSU Tigers at (7) Alabama Crimson Tide (-7, 45.5)

                    * LSU has outscored opponents 63-10 in the first quarter and 124-51 in the first half and has trailed at the end of only one quarter – a 7-0 deficit after the first quarter against Florida.

                    * Alabama has allowed only 16 100-yard rushers since 2005 – the fewest in the nation – and just two in the past two seasons, while Leonard Fournette has topped 100 yards in nine straight contests dating to last season.

No total too high for Texas Tech this season

The Texas Tech Red Raiders visit the West Virginia Mountaineers Saturday afternoon and after opening at 79, the total has moved to 80.5. This will mark the eighth game so far this season that the Red Raiders have seen a total of at least 70 points.

In a conference featuring teams like the Tech, TCU, Baylor and Oklahoma State, totals this high have become the norm. And for good reason. The scoreline has gone over the number in six of their previous six games when they the Red Raiders have seen a total north of 70.

Just last week, the Red Raiders and Oklahoma State Cowboys combined for 123 points, easily eclipsing the closing 77.5.

Penn State looks for revenge against Northwestern

The Penn State Nittany Lions have been the dominant force for the majority of recent meetings with the Northwestern Wildcats, but it was the latter that posted the outright victory in last season's clash.

The Wildcats were 10.5-point home dogs at Penn State and rolled to a 29-6 win over the hosts. Still, the Nittany Lions have gone 5-1 straight up and against the spread in the previous six contests.

Books opened the Wildcats as 2.5-point home favorites, but that has since moved to a Pick.

                        Saturday, November 7

Longhorns at their best versus lowly Jayhawks

The Texas Longhorns will relish the opportunity to face the struggling Kansas Jayhawks Saturday evening, courtesy a recent history of dominance over their Big 12 foe.

The Longhorns have outscored the Jayhawks 122-30 in the past four meetings and have won each of those contests. That hasn't necessarily yielded results at the betting window, however, as Texas is just 2-2 against the spread in those matchups.

What has been profitable is the Under as scorelines have stayed below the closing number in each of the previous four meetings.

This time around, the Longhorns opened as big 29-point home favorites, but that has dropped to -28. The total has come down all the way to 52.5 after opening at 56.

Road team has ATS in Alabama-LSU contests

Heading into Saturday's much-anticipated contest between the LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide, the visitor has traditionally had the edge against the spread, going 14-5-1 in the past 20 meetings.

In a smaller sample size, the visitor has gone 3-2 straight up and ATS in the past five contests, including a 20-13 Tide win as 6.5-point road faves at LSU last season.

Alabama opened as a 7-point home fave at most shops but that has since moved to -8.5.

                        Memphis on impressive winning streak

The Memphis Tigers head into Saturday's meeting with Navy riding a 15-game winning streak dating back to last season. The mark hasn't been as impressive at the betting window, however, as the Tigers have posted a ho-hum 8-6-1 mark against the spread during their win streak.

The Tigers' last loss was a 28-24 setback versus the Houston Cougars in Week 7 of last season.

This season, the Tigers are 8-0 straight up and are 4-3-1 ATS heading into Week 10.

Books opened the Tigers as 9-point home favorites with the Midshipmen in town, but that has since moved to -7.5.

Spartans rolling along in Big Ten play

The Michigan State Spartans have won 20 of their previous 21 games against Big Ten opponents and will look to add another in the win column when they visit the Nebraska Cornhuskers Saturday evening.

The one loss was versus the Ohio State Buckeyes last season. The Buckeyes won 49-37 at Michigan State as 3.5-point road dogs in Week 11.

The Spartans have been a profitable venture in those conference games, however, posting a record of 14-7 against the spread, including a 2-2 ATS mark this season.

Michigan State is presently a 4.5-poin road favorite for Saturday's meeting with Nebraska.
