This team undefeated as massive favorites

The Los Angeles Dodgers have seen themselves as huge moneyline faves this season. Six times this season the Dodgers have been -200 or more and they have gone a perfect 6-0 in those games.

The Dodgers have outscored their opponents 30-7 in those games, but have won three of those games by only one run.

The Dodgers are -233 against the Los Angeles Angels (+213) Tuesday.

Rangers love to see this ump behind home plate

The struggling Texas Rangers are happy to see umpire Chris Conroy behind home plate. They are 9-0 in their last nine games with Conroy calling balls and strikes.

Conroy will be behind the plate when the Rangers visit the Chicago White Sox Tuesday night and are currently listed as +122 road dogs.

Bettors overjoyed when Danks takes to the mound

John Danks has been money for bettors against the Texas Rangers. In Danks last eight starts against the Rangers, the under has gone a perfect 8-0.

Danks has given up more than three runs only twice during those eight games. The Rangers and White Sox have scored an average of 5.4 runs per gamein those games.

Yankees Kuroda pitching to interesting total trend

New York Yankees' starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda has pitched to the under as an incredible trend has emerged against good teams.

The under is 22-4-1 in Kuroda's last 27 starts versus a team with a winning record.

The Yankees host the Detroit Tigers Tuesday night with a total currently at 7.5. The Tigers will counter with newly acquired David Price.

                ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Game of the Day: Angels at Dodgers
                ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Los Angeles Angels at Los Angeles Dodgers (-228, 6.5)

Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw aims to maintain his run of dominance when he puts a personal 10-game winning streak on the line Tuesday at home against the Los Angeles Angels. Kershaw has thrown four complete games in his last eight starts, including a gem against Atlanta on Thursday, when he let up a run and struck out nine in a 2-1 victory. The National League Pitcher of the Month for June and July has yielded only three runs in 41 frames over his last four home outings.

Although he rarely needs much run support, Kershaw will hope for a bit more than the Dodgers could muster in a 5-0 loss in Monday's series opener. The Angels got a home run from Josh Hamilton and a five-hit shutout from Garrett Richards to win for the 13th time in their last 20 games at Dodger Stadium. The victory kept the Angels one game behind first-place Oakland in the American League West, while the Dodgers saw their lead in the N.L. West reduced to 1 1/2 games over San Francisco.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, FSN West (Angels), SNET (Dodgers)

LINE HISTORY: The Dodgers opened as -240 favorites, but have moved to as ow as -215 before currently sitting at -228. The total is currently at 6.5.

POWER RANKINGS: Los Angeles Angles: -201, Los Angeles Dodgers -193

                INJURY REPORT: N/A.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Angels LH Hector Santiago (3-7, 3.76 ERA) vs. Dodgers LH Clayton Kershaw (13-2, 1.71)

Santiago has allowed only one run in 15 innings over his last four appearances, two of which have been out of the bullpen. He is 1-7 with a 4.16 ERA in 14 starts, limiting opponents to 65 hits in 71 1/3 innings. The 26-year-old, who owns a 2.75 ERA in 11 career interleague contests (four starts), has thrown just 1 1/3 innings in his career versus the Dodgers.

Kershaw entered the series leading the National League in ERA, WHIP (0.82), strikeouts per nine innings (11.13) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (10.00), which is nearly twice that of second-place Jordan Zimmermann (5.76) of Washington. He has 104 strikeouts against only eight walks since the beginning of June. The two-time Cy Young Award winner is 2-2 with a 3.74 ERA in five career starts against the Angels, surrendering seven runs (six earned) in six frames in his previous encounter in 2011.

                TRENDS:

                  Who's Hot - AL

                  August 5, 2014

There are only around 50 games left in the baseball's regular season, and it's tough to believe that the campaign has gone by this quickly. MLB betting fanatics have certainly been having a field day with some of the American League teams this year, and these are the three who have given you the most bang for your buck.

Baltimore Orioles (63-48, +$2,029) – We're not really all that sure how the O's are doing all of this. They really haven't gotten much this year out of J.J. Hardy or Chris Davis or Manny Machado, yet they still rank second in the league in home runs (thank you, Nelson Cruz) and 12th in run production on average. There isn't a legitimate ace pitcher on this team, and though Zach Britton has been good in relief, the rest of this bullpen is only so-so. Then again, maybe that's why the oddsmakers keep making Baltimore a dog on the road! Logic would tell you that the Orioles really shouldn't be able to win the AL East this year, but they really could. They're 33-23 on the road this year, and virtually all of the damage they have done for bettors has come away from Camden Yards. Winning those close games is what really makes the difference, especially on the road. Baltimore is doing just that.

Los Angeles Angels (67-44, +$1,538) – The Tigers went out and got David Price, and the A's have been doing all they can to go pitcher for pitcher with every team in the American League (more on them in a minute). Yet it's the Angels who are really flying high at the moment as the second best money team in the AL West. The Halos are just a game back of Oakland for the best record in baseball, and there is no doubt that they have the horses to get the job done. Sending out there Jered Weaver and Garrett Richards in the first two games of any short series is as good as anything that any team will be able to do, but beyond that, we have our concerns. The difference? Los Angeles can mash with any team in the game.

Oakland Athletics (68-43, +$1,053) – Pitching wins in the postseason, and that's why the A's have completely reworked their rotation. They have Jon Lester and Jeff Samardzija to build up the top of that rotation for the playoffs, and Sonny Gray as a third option isn't too shabby either. Our concern? How much will giving up Yoenis Cespedes really end up costing Oakland come the postseason? It's not often that you see a team give up its leadoff hitter in a trade to try to get better, but the Athletics did just that. They've still statistically got one of the best offenses in the league, but can it hold up? This pitching will do what it can otherwise, but there's still a long road ahead yet for Oaklan

                            Armadillo: Wednesday's six-pack

-- Detroit 4, Bronx 3 (12)-- 322 pitches, 91 batters, no walks. First time in 100+ years Bronx played an extra inning game witb no walks for either side.

-- Andrew McCutchen has a broken rib with cartilage damage, very bad news for the Pirates, who lost 6-3 at home to Miami last night.

-- Charleston fired basketball coach Doug Wojcik who won more than he lost in two years, but was accused of verbal abuse by many team/staff members. Wojcik was David Robinson's point guard at the Naval Academy.

-- Rangers 16, White Sox 0-- Slugger Adam Dunn pitched 9th inning for Chicago; he didn't do any worse than any of Pale Hose's regular pitchers, allowing a run.

-- Since 2008, Tampa Bay has used only 22 starting pitchers, fewest in the major leagues; San Diego (49) has used the most.

-- Dodgers 5, Angels 4-- Juan Uribe hit a 3-run homer, then later scored winning run on a close play at the plate when he knocked the ball out of the catcher's glove, as Dodgers won for 12th straight time when Kershaw started.

                            **********

Armadillo: Wednesday's List of 13: Doing some thinking out loud.......

                            13) August is a great month to watch NFL Network; they’ll have replays of every exhibition game, with one team’s announcers for each half.

Except for Dave Pasch/Ron Wolfley with Cardinal games, announcers are mostly mute button material- they shill for season tickets sales a lot and generally provide no information, but the games are fun to watch.

Curious to see OLs with Dolphins/Giants and also obviously Johnny Manziel, will be interesting to track, just because we get to see him play ball instead of cavorting all over America.

                            12) There are seven new head coaches this year, though five of them have been HCs in college/pros before—only Mike Zimmer/Mike Pettine have not, but there are also 11 new offensive coordinators. Deciphering who will be aggressive/conservative is an interesting task if you’re involved in handicapping or fantasy football.

                            11) You don’t think baseball is a mental game? Oakland’s Steven Vogt was 10 for his last 32 before the Price-Cespedes trade, which cleared a few more AB’s so Vogt could be a regular bat in the lineup, but he is 0-14 since the trade. No bueno.

                            10) Bronx Bombers’ last 16 games were all decided by either one or two runs, longest such streak in major leagues since 1975.

                            9) Battle 4 Atlantis on November 26 (day before Thanksgiving) has Oklahoma-UAB, Florida-Georgetown, Oklahoma-UCLA and North Carolina-Butler are first round matchups. At quick glance, UAB-Butler figures to be the 7th place game, but you never know about second round consolation games.

                            8) Washington-Gonzaga are re-starting their basketball series, starting in two years; Zags have gotten so good, it helps the Huskies just to play them.

                            7) David Price/Jon Lester took out full-page ads in local newspapers, thanking fans and their old clubs following last week’s trades. Classy move by both guys.

                            6) Atlanta Falcons are on HBO’s Hard Knocks this summer; you see things in that show the casual fan doesn’t normally get to see, which makes it interesting. Not sure there is anything about the Falcons themselves that will make the show unique, but no one thought that about LY’s Dolphins either. Go figure.

                            5) Cleveland Browns are 1-14 in season openers since they started up playing again in 1999, and 14 of those 15 games were at home. Browns beat Baltimore 20-3 in ’04 for their only 1-0 start in 15 years- they open in Pittsburgh this year. Steelers beat them 43-0/34-7 only two times they’ve met on Opening Day.

                            4) Houston Texans go to Oakland in Week 2, an early Matt Schaub Bowl. Schaub had a brutal season as Houston’s QB last season; now he gets to play against his old team, as he tries to revive his career.

                            3) New England was favored in its last ten road openers, going 7-3 SU, 6-4 against the spread. Pats are favored by 3.5 points at Miami in Week 1.

                            2) Big rumor (pipe dream?) in Boston media this week is that Red Sox will try, at some point, to package Yoenis Cespedes in a deal to get Giancarlo Stanton from the Marlins, who were ther only team besides Oakland to bid for Cespedes when he first came here from Cuba.

                            1) In light of Andrew McCutchen's rib injury, next time the Pirates play Arizona could be very interesting, seeing how the D'backs drilled McCutchen on purpose.
