Home-ice has huge advantage in Game 7

The NHL is offering something to viewers that they haven't in over a decade. There will be three Game 7's on tap Wednesday, which is the first time that has happened since April 22, 2003. And to be as cliched as possible, home-ice advantage is crucial when playing in Game 7.

According to Elias Sports, home teams are 90-59 all-time in Game 7's during the Stanley Cup Playoffs which is good for a .604 winning percentage.

Each individual game has seen the home team trending as well. The Flyers-Rangers game has seen the home team take nine of 11, the Kings-Sharks series has the home team winning 37 of the past 54 and the home team has won the past seven in the Wild-Avalanche series.

Game 7 in New York is bad news for Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers forced Game 7 with the New York Rangers by posting an impressive 5-2 victory Tuesday night. The Flyers have struggled at MSG, however, as they have posted an abysmal 1-10 record in their last 11 games in the Rangers' barn.

The pair will face-off in Game 7 Wednesday evening as they are forced to play back-to-back games. Books opened the Rangers as the fave anywhere from -149 to -161.

Bruce Chen is in “constant pain”

Bruce Chen has been scratched from today’s scheduled start and may not be able to pitch this weekend either because of a swollen disk in his back that has the Royals left-hander in what he described as “constant pain.”

Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports that the swollen disk is pressing against nerves and causing “pain shooting down his leg.” He received an epidural injection to ease the swelling.

McCullough writes that “Chen has been managing this condition for weeks,” which helps explain his 7.45 ERA in four starts after the Royals re-signed the 37-year-old to a two-year contract this offseason.
