          Armadillo: Tuesday's six-pack

Odds to win The Masters this week........

          10-1-- Scott-McIlroy.

15-1-- Mickelson-Day-DJohnson, as well as the field.

          20-1-- Spieth-ZJohnson

          25-1-- Snedeker-Watson-Kuchar

          30-1-- Rose-Dufner-Stenson-Schwartzel

          40-1-- Oosthuizen-Mahan-Garcia-Bradley-English

          *****

Armadillo: Tuesday's List of 13: Doing some thinking out loud.......

          13) UConn joins the 2002 Maryland Terrapins as only teams since 1979 to win a national title without a McDonald’s All-American on its roster. Tremendous runs by both them and Kentucky, which seems to have a new team every year.

          12) San Francisco Giants request to open on the road every year, to avoid opening week rainouts; A’s had two rainouts across the bay last week, but one was because they stupidly left the field uncovered Thursday night- the other was their first home rainout since 1995, so Giants' request hasn't mattered much over the years.

          11) Yovani Gallardo blanked Boston on seven hits for 6.2 innings Sunday, with no walks, but he didn’t induce one miss on the 37 swings the Red Sox took, which is rare for a starting pitcher, especially in a successful start.

          10) Cubs didn’t score a run in either of Jeff Samardzija’s first two starts, with first game going ten innings in Pittsburgh.

          9) The $6.25 hot dog at Citi Field is the most expensive frankfurter in the major leagues. Met fans would prefer their players were expensive, not the food.

          8) By way of contrasts, $4 imported beer at Augusta National (yes, $4) is the most expensive thing on their menu there. Going to Augusta must be like getting shipped back in time; CBS uses the same graphics for The Masters that they did in the mid-80’s.

          7) First week of baseball season: in 94 games, there were 43 replay reviews; 15 of the 43 resulted in replay reversals.

          6) Manhattan took basketball coach Steve Masiello back, well they will as soon as he finishes the 12 credits he is short of his degree. Curious to see if Masiello, who is a hot coaching property, stays with the Jaspers after next season. Manhattan had the option of firing him for cause, since he lied to them on his resume.

          5) Kentucky alum Rex Chapman tweeted Monday that he thought John Calipari would be the next coach of the Lakers.

          4) Bronx Bomber closer David Robertson lasted six days before going on the DL with a leg injury; they're going to miss Mariano Rivera. A lot.

          3) Poorly-kept secret department: Marcus Smart declared for the NBA Draft; he didn't show a lot of mental toughness during the season. Will be interetsting to see how good a pro he becomes. Another year in college would've helped him, actually it would help just about everyone who comes out early, but its almost impossible to ignore the big money the NBA throws at them. .

          2) UConn lost its last regular season game by 33 to Louisville; now they're the national champs, allowing 54-53-54 points in their last three games. .

          1) Huskies were the just the second underdog in last 11 years to win the national title game; losing coach in both games was John Calipari. His Memphis Tigers were 2-point favorites when they lost in OT to Kansas six years ago.

Infante not expected to miss significant time

Omar Infante has been diagnosed with a jaw sprain and a "non-concussive head injury" to go with six stitches after getting hit in the face by a pitch.

Andy McCullough, a Royals spokesperson told the Kansas City Star, ""Based on the Kansas City medical team's initial diagnosis, it does not appear he'll miss a significant amount of time."

Infante took a pitch directly to the jaw during Kansas City's win over the Tampa Bay Rays Monday. After immediately hitting the dirt, Infante left the game as blood poured out of a wound near his chin.

A decision on whether or not Infante will be placed on the DL is expected to come in the next 48 hours.

                                Who's Hot - NL Edition

                                April 8, 2014

The long road to October has begun in the bigs, as 30 teams with high hopes of being the next team to be a part of the Fall Classic have started their journeys. There can only be so many winners in MLB betting action though, and today, we're looking at the top teams out of the gate in the National League.

San Francisco Giants (5-2, +$372) – We've long said if San Fran can figure out how to get its act together at the plate, it could be a dangerous team. So far, so good from that perspective. The Giants have put up at least seven runs in five of their first seven games this year, and they are averaging 5.71 runs per game. The pitching will also pick up - don't think for one second that this is a team which is going to ultimately rank 16th of the 30 teams in baseball in team ERA.

Atlanta Braves (4-2, +$310) – 1B Freddie Freeman is tearing the cover off of the ball through his first six games of the year, as he already has two homers and splits of .421/.789/1.349. Those are obviously out of this world numbers. We'd like to see the Upton brothers do more than bat a combined .302 between them, but eventually, things should get a little better. Keep an eye on this pitching staff, though. David Hale, Aaron Harang, and what will likely be a fifth starter by committee will have to figure out how to step into the shoes of all of the injured Atlanta starters who are out for the season or for long periods of time.

Miami Marlins (5-2, +$286) – Let's hear it for Miami! The Marlins aren't the best team in the world, but heck, we'll celebrate them for as long as they are in first place. You're not going to see a more towering home run than the one that OF Giancarlo Stanton hit over the weekend, and he is just one of the many who are really hitting the ball well for the Fish. Remember that this is a team which has a ton of young talent on it, and this is the year that that young talent should ultimately start to shine through. Miami likely won’t end up being a winning team when the regular season concludes, but considering the fact that it is going to be an underdog in probably about 120 games this year, finishing anywhere near .500 should make this a team very lucrative to back on the MLB betting odds.
