Carolina has been kind to the Rangers

The New York Rangers boast one of the Eastern Conferences best road records and it looks even better when they travel to Carolina. The Rangers are 17-5 in their past 22 road games and have also beaten the Hurricanes in the last six in Carolina.

To add to that, the Hurricanes have been 1-7 in their last eight.

The Rangers (-148) look to continue their torrent road streak against the Hurricanes (+136) Tuesday.

Habs' goalie Carey Price, to miss Wednesday's game

Price aggravated a groin injury following the Olympic break and was placed on the injured reserve as a result. He has begun taking shots in practice but will not return Wednesday to face the Bruins.

Fasth to make debut as Oilers visit Wild

The Edmonton Oilers will give newly-acquired goaltender Viktor Fasth his debut start tonight as the team visits the Minnesota Wild.

Fasth was acquired from the goaltending-rich Anaheim Ducks for a third-round draft pick at this year's Entry Draft.

The Swede has appeared in just five games this season after an excellent 2012-13. He is 2-2-1 with a 2.95 GAA and .885 save percentage.

The Oilers are +180 road dogs Tuesday night.

    Stars' Peverley 'resting comfortably'

Dallas Stars center Rich Peverley is "resting comfortably" in the hospital on Tuesday after collapsing the night before on the bench in the first period of the team's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Stars general manager Jim Nill released the following statement with an update on Peverley's condition:

"Rich Peverley is resting comfortably and being monitored at UT Southwestern St. Paul. He is currently undergoing testing to discover what triggered the cardiac event last night.

"The focus of all the testing and monitoring is being dedicated to finding the cause of the event and a long-term solution to rectify the problem.

"We do not have any more specifics at the moment.

"Rich has been communicating with his teammates and friends. He is extremely grateful for all of the prayers and support that he's received from fans and friends alike."

The Stars will hold a press conference Wednesday, along with the UT Southwestern doctors, to give an update on the situation.

Trail Blazers on fire for bettors in Memphis

The Portland Trail Blazers have been astonishingly good for bettors in Memphis. The Trailer Blazers are 13-3-1 against the spread in Memphis, including covering all spreads since 2010 in the Volunteer State.

The Trailer Blazers are a solid 19-12 ATS on the road this season, including 5-1 ATS since Feb.5. During that same span, the Grizzlies are 3-4 at home ATS.

Portland are 3-point dogs when they visit Memphis Tuesday.

Andrew Bynum to debut for Pacers tonight vs. Celtics

Center Andrew Bynum will finally make his debut for the Indiana Pacers Tuesday night against the Boston Celtics.

Coach Frank Vogel told reporters that Bynum would suit up tonight after Tuesday's shootaround. Bynum wasn't expected to play until Friday, but the Pacers are on a season-worst four game losing streak and backup center Ian Mahinmi is hurting.

The Pacers signed Bynum over a month ago after he was suspended indefinitely by the Cavaliers, then traded to the Bulls and released.

Indiana is 11.5-point faves when they host Boston tonight.

Visiting teams cashing in on the ice

Over the past two nights in the NHL, the visiting team has been a tour de force going 10-1-1 on foreign ice.

The Colorado Avalanche held off the Winnipeg Jets on home ice in overtime Monday night while the New York Rangers blanked the visiting Detroit Red Wings 3-0 Sunday afternoon as the only home teams to win over the past two days.

Tuesday presents several opportunities to jump on this spot with nine games on the board.

Islanders tie team record with 7-goal period

In the midst of a forgettable season, the New York Islanders accomplished a bit of history Monday.

The Islanders, sporting seven rookies on their 24-man roster, scored seven third-period goals to beat the floundering Vancouver Canucks 7-4 at Rogers Arena. The seven-goal period tied the franchise record set Dec. 23, 1978, against the New York Rangers.

"You never know what's going to happen in this game," Islanders coach Jack Capuano said.

With the Canucks leading 3-0 to begin the third period, the Islanders (25-33-9) scored three power-play goals in the opening 3:36 off the sticks of left winger Josh Bailey, center Ryan Strome and defenseman Calvin de Haan. Strome's and de Haan's goals came 22 seconds apart.

New York center Frans Nielsen made it 4-3 at 6:22, one second after the Isles' fourth power play of the young period expired.

Canucks defenseman Chris Tanev made it 4-4, but 10 seconds later, left winger Matt Martin put the Islanders ahead to stay at 10:04.

NOTES: Entering the game, the Canucks had four players who make a combined $22.45 million this season, who had not scored for a combined 105 games: LW Daniel Sedin ($6.1 million, injured, but no goals in his last 22 games), C Henrik Sedin ($6.1 million, 23 games), Alex Burrows ($6 million, 34 games) and David Booth ($4.25 million, 26 games). Henrik Sedin ended his drought. ... Isles LW Matt Martin had six hits Monday. Martin, who led the NHL in hits the past two seasons, is on top again with 292. Two seasons ago, he set a record (since hits became an official statistic in 2005-06) with 374.

          Cowboys' sack leader Ware released

Defensive end DeMarcus Ware, who has gone to seven Pro Bowls and compiled 117 sacks in nine seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, was released Tuesday, saving the team $7.4 million in cap space.

Ware's multiple restructures led to a $12.25 million base salary and $16 million cap hit for the 2014 season before his release.

The Cowboys' all-time sacks leader, who turns 32 in July, had a career-low six sacks in 2013 in the Cowboys' 4-3 scheme and missed the first three games with a quadriceps strain.

Among Ware's many accomplishments are a 20-sack season in 2008, when he was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Year, and a 19.5-sack year just three seasons ago in 2011. Ware and Mark Gastineau are the only two players in league history with two seasons of 19 or more sacks.

He had a streak of seven straight seasons with at least 11 sacks.

Ware had shoulder surgery after the 2012 season and is recovering from elbow surgery this offseason.

Vikings, QB Cassel agree to terms

The Minnesota Vikings and quarterback Matt Cassel agreed to terms on a new contract, the team officially announced Tuesday.

CBSSports.com reported Friday night that the veteran quarterback reached agreement on a two-year, $10 million contract to remain with the Vikings.

Cassel, who signed with the Vikings as a free agent during the 2013 offseason, appeared in nine games, including all five Vikings wins, while starting six last season.

The veteran totaled 1,807 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions for a 81.6 quarterback rating in his lone season for the Vikings.

The Vikings also agreed to terms with defensive end Everson Griffen.

Griffen originally joined the Vikings as a fourth-round selection in the 2010 NFL Draft. Griffen has appeared in 59 games while recording one start. He has totaled 17.5 sacks in his career, including a career-high 8.0 in 2012, while playing in a part-time role. Griffen finished the 2013 season with 5.5 sacks.

In addition, the Vikings officially announced they re-signed linebacker Larry Dean, avoiding restricted free agency.

Dean has played all 48 regular-season games and one playoff contest since joining the Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2011. Primarily playing on special teams, Dean has 48 overall tackles.
