Knicks win sixth straight, cashing for backers

The New York Knicks are bringing in Phil Jackson in on a high note.

With the Knicks 115-94 win Saturday night over Milwaukee, New York has now won six consecutive games. What's even better is that Knicks backers have been able to cash in on the streak as well. The Knicks are 5-1 against the spread during their current run - one of the best ATS runs of the season.

The Knicks don't play again until Wednesday, when they host the Indiana Pacers.

Bettors enjoying a hot ATS month from Raptors

The Toronto Raptors have been sizzling straight up against the spread in the month of March. The Raps are 5-1 SU and ATS and will face the Phoenix Suns Sunday afternoon.

Coincidentally, the Raptors and Suns are two top teams in the NBA against the spread. The Suns are 42.22-1 ATS while the Raptors are 39-24-1 ATS.

Spurs have been incredible, undefeated, in March

The San Antonio Spurs are surging as of late. Since the beginning of March, the Spurs are undefeated straight-up (7-0) and a solid 5-2 against the spread.

The two spreads that the Spurs failed to cover were by a combined 7.5-points - including missing the ATS win against the Dallas Mavericks by 0.5. The Spurs have also covered both games at home so far in March in decisive fashion.

The Spurs will look to remain unbeaten in March when they welcome the Utah Jazz plus 15 Sunday.

Back injury ends Odom's season in Spain

Forward Lamar Odom's season in Spain was cut short by a back injury.

The Spanish team, Baskonia, said Saturday that Odom's personal doctors in New York ruled him unfit to play for two months, putting an end to his present contract, according to the Associated Press.

Odom, who won two NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers, signed a two-month contract with the Basque club in February.

Warriors stars lighting up Trail Blazers this season

The two times this season the Golden State Warriors clashed with the Portland Trail Blazers, the Warriors big guns have shown up.

Stephen Curry has averaged 30-points and 9.5-assists against Portland this year, including a stellar 38-point performance on Jan. 26. The Warriors offensive dominance does not end with Curry as David Lee has averaged 16 ppg and 12 rpg.

If Portland expects to walk away with a win, then they will need to find a way to stop the Warriors big two or somehow match their offensive output.

The Warriors are 1.5-point road favorites against the Trail Blazers Sunday.

Covering in Oklahoma City has come easy to Mavs

The Dallas Mavericks are currently in a dogfight for playoff position in the Western Conference, but bettors shouldn't be worried about the Mavs chances against the spread in Oklahoma Sunday.

The Mavs are strong on the road - 42-18 ATS in their last 60 road games - but are even better when they play in Chesapeake Energy Arena - 16-5-1 ATS at Oklahoma City. For bettors security, the road team also has a strong 24-8-1 ATS record when these two teams meet.

The Mavs enter their game with the Oklahoma City Thunder as 8-point road dogs.

Kings becoming a hot under play

The Sacramento Kings are becoming a hot under play, despite the fact they give up almost 104 points per game.

The Kings have gone under the game total in seven of their last eight games, including the five in a row.

The reason for the Kings under run has been scoring, or lack-there-of. They have scored less than 90 points four time in eight games and are only averaging 97 point per game in that time.

Game of the Day: Rockets at Heat
              ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Houston Rockets at Miami Heat (-5, 209)

The Miami Heat are experiencing their worst stretch of the season and will try to regain their touch when they host the Houston Rockets in Sunday’s nationally televised contest. Miami has lost five of its last six games and is threatening to fall out of the derby with the Indiana Pacers for top seed in the Eastern Conference. Houston was playing superbly until losing its last two games and is in fourth place in the Western Conference.

The recent slide is easily Miami’s worst stretch of the season and it began with a 106-103 loss to Houston on March 4. Center Chris Bosh was highly disappointed after the Heat lost to the lowly Denver Nuggets 111-107 on Friday. “Five out of six, to our standards, that’s unacceptable,” Bosh told reporters. “We know we’re better than this. We have to do a better job. We have to have better urgency.” The Rockets are wrapping up a three-game trip that began with losses to Oklahoma City and Chicago.

              TV: 3:30 p.m. ET, ABC

LINE HISTORY: Miami opens as a 5-point favorite with a total of 209.

              INJURY WATCH: N/A

WHY BET THE ROCKETS (44-21 SU, 33-30-2 ATS, 31-32-2 O/U: Houston lost just twice in a 17-game span prior to the consecutive losses and hasn’t lost three straight games all season. The Rockets were routed by the Bulls 111-87 on Thursday and shot just 35.4 percent from the field and 5-of-26 from 3-point range in an effort that greatly disturbed coach Kevin McHale. “We did not come out ready to play,” McHale said afterward. “I have no idea why. You have to ask them. We did not offensive or defensively start the game. We were walking it up, not running.”

WHY BET THE HEAT (44-19 SU, 28-33-2 ATS, 31-32-2 O/U): Forward LeBron James hasn’t scored more than 23 points in any game during Miami’s recent down stretch. James had failed to reach 20 points in three of the six outings and is just 5-of-21 from 3-point range. The superstar hasn’t posted a double-double since Feb. 12 and his career-high 61-point outing against the Charlotte Bobcats on March 3 marks the only time this month he has scored more than 30 points. James had 22 points but just one rebound in the recent loss to Houston.

              TRENDS:

              * Over is 5-1 in the last six meetings.
              * Rockets are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings.
              * Heat are 13-5 ATS in their last 18 Sunday games.
              * Under is 4-1 in Heat last five overall.

CONSENSUS: 52% of bettors are backing the Rockets +5

Bank Shots: NBA's weekly betting news and notes
                    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the week of March 10-16

Hottest ATS - San Antonio Spurs (4-0 S/U, 4-0 ATS)

It should come as no surprise to basketball fans that the Spurs continue rolling along, just as they've done for the better part of the last 15 years. With everyone healthy and the bench as deep as it's ever been, San Antonio is the team to beat in the Western Conference after reeling off a perfect week both straight up and against the spread. The Spurs opened with an impressive 104-96 win in Chicago, then followed it up with double-digit home routs over Portland, the Los Angeles Lakers and Utah to secure top spot in the West.

                    Coldest ATS - Atlanta Hawks (3-0 S/U, 0-3 ATS)

Once considered a shoo-in for home-court advantage in the opening round of the Eastern Conference playoffs, the Hawks now find themselves in a battle just to reach the postseason. Last week's performance should help a great deal, as Atlanta reeled off a perfect 3-0 stretch despite failing to cover in each. Narrow victories over the Jazz, Milwaukee Bucks and Denver Nuggets have Atlanta riding high after a six-game losing skid had dropped the Hawks dangerously close to the outside of the playoff picture.

Best Over play - New York Knicks (3-0 SU, 3-0 O/U)

The hot-and-cold Knicks are scorching right now, having won six consecutive games while racking up at least 107 points in each. They turned it up a notch last week, averaging a ridiculous 118 points in victories over East minnows Philadelphia, Boston and Milwaukee. Superstar forward Carmelo Anthony led the way on the offensive end - averaging 26.3 points over the three-game stretch - but had plenty of help from a supporting cast that included Tim Hardaway Jr. (23.3 points) and J.R. Smith (16.7 points).

Best Under play - Charlotte Bobcats (4-0 SU, 0-4 O/U)

The Bobcats are back to playing fundamentally sound basketball following a rough defensive stretch - and that has meant low-scoring victories by the boatload. With Charlotte's totals climbing since the beginning of the season, the Bobcats responded last week with four straight victories in which they allowed no more than 98 points. Only Sunday's 101-92 victory over Milwaukee came close to reaching the total; earlier wins over Denver, Washington and Minnesota all fell at least eight points below, making Charlotte the top under play of the week.

                    Surveying the schedule

Just how many more games will the Philadelphia 76ers lose before they finally claim their next victory? The woeful 76ers are at 20 straight defeats and counting - and as you might expect, the schedule doesn't offer much in the way of relief. Things will be especially rough for Philadelphia this week, as it faces a four-game week in which it will match up against the East-leading Indiana Pacers, play a pair of games against the defensively stout Chicago Bulls and take on the red-hot New York Knicks.

This week's best NBA spot bet opportunities
                    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                    Letdown spot

Chicago has two big games this week and a pair of games against the worst team in the NBA, the Philadelphia 76ers. The Bulls host Oklahoma City on Monday night, and then play at Philadelphia Wednesday. Chicago stays on the road for a game in Indiana on Friday before returning home to host the Sixers on Saturday.

The Bulls will be playing their third game in four nights against Philadelphia so they have that going against them. If Chicago crushes the Sixers in the first meeting and pulls out a win at Indiana on Friday night, the Bulls will certainly be in a letdown spot as a big home favorite on Saturday in the quick rematch against hapless Philadelphia.

                    Look-ahead spot

Minnesota has been inconsistent with their play recently as they’ve alternated wins and losses over their last seven games. The Timberwolves will open their three-game week Wednesday night in Dallas, play at Houston Thursday, and then host Phoenix Sunday.

The Timberwolves should be focused on the Mavericks as they have two days off to prepare and get ready for that game. But Minnesota may be looking ahead to the Rockets game since they’ve been blown out by Houston twice this season with the last being an ugly 107-89 home defeat last month.

                    Schedule spot

The Miami Heat were in terrible form over the last two weeks, going just 2-5 SU and ATS. Miami has an easy, but busy upcoming week as they’ll play four games with three of the games coming on the road. Their toughest opponent is Memphis Friday night, and fortunately for the Heat, that’s their lone home game.

Miami will play on a back-to-back set Saturday night in New Orleans. That will also be Miami’s fourth game in five nights, and the Pelicans game is sandwiched between Memphis and Portland. There’s a good chance Miami just goes through the motions in New Orleans, especially since they crushed the Pelicans 107-88 the last time they played.
