    • Sunday's Pac-12 Action

      January 25, 2014

The Pac-12 will take center stage this Sunday in men’s college basketball led by the California Golden Bears on the road against the UCLA Bruins. We decided to focus on this matchup as well as a few other conference clashes out west for this Sunday’s NCAAB betting tip sheet.

California Golden Bears vs. UCLA Bruins (ESPNU, 8:00 p.m.)

The Golden Bears’ six-game winning streak both straight-up and against the spread came to an abrupt end in this past Wednesday’s 77-69 loss to USC as 8 ½-point home favorites on the closing betting line. They are now 14-5 SU on the year with a 10-8 record ATS. It was Cal’s first loss in the Pac-12 this season verse five SU wins.

Justin Cobbs leads California with 15.3 points and 6.4 assists a game with Richard Solomon chipping in another 11.9 points and a team-high 10.4 rebounds. The Golden Bears are averaging 76.3 points a game while shooting 47 percent from the field and 35.2 percent from 3-point range.

UCLA is third in the conference with a 4-2 SU record after running all over Stanford 91-74 this past Wednesday as a 5 ½-point favorite at home. The Bruins are 15-4 SU overall and 11-7 ATS after covering in four of their last six contests. The total has gone OVER in their last four home games.

The Bruins come into this matchup as the eighth-highest scoring team in the nation with 84.7 points a game and they are shooting an impressive 50.3 percent from the field. Jordan Adams is averaging 17.5 points and Kyle Anderson is putting up 15.4 points a game while shooting 51.3 percent from the floor. UCLA has also been fairly stout on defense by holding teams to 68 points on the other end of the court.

The opening betting line for this conference clash has the Bruins favored over Cal by seven points at home.

Head-to-head, the Golden Bears have covered in seven of the last eight meetings and they are 6-2 SU over the same stretch of games. The total has stayed UNDER in the last two meetings after going OVER in the previous five contests.

      Other Key Pac-12 Games

Stanford Cardinal vs. USC Trojans (Pac-12 Network, 5:00 p.m.)

The Cardinal will try and bounce back from Wednesday’s loss to UCLA that dropped them to an even 3-3 SU in conference play. Stanford is 6-3-1 ATS in its last 10 games and the total has gone OVER in five of its last seven outings. Chasson Randle is scoring 19.2 of the team’s 76.8 points a game, but the most versatile player on this roster has been Dwight Powell with 14.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and 3.9 assists.

USC’s victory over Cal was its first conference win this season against five previous losses. The Trojans are one game above .500 overall at 10-9 SU with a 7-9-1 record ATS. Wednesday’s victory was the first time they covered in their last seven games. USC is averaging 71.9 points a game and shooting 45 percent from the field. Byron Wesley leads the team in scoring with 16.4 points and he is pulling down 7.4 rebounds a game.

The Cardinal have been opened as 5 ½-point home favorites for this matchup.

USC is 5-2 SU in the last seven games against the Cardinal and it holds a 4-3 edge ATS. The total has stayed UNDER in seven of the last eight meetings.

Oregon Ducks vs. Washington State Cougars (Pac-12 Network, 7:00 p.m.)

The Ducks fall from grace has been swift and deep after posting a perfect 12-0 SU record in nonconference play. Oregon beat Utah by two points in overtime to open play in the Pac-12, but since then it has lost its last five contests both SU and ATS. It is ranked fourth in the nation in scoring with 86.8 points a game, but defensively it has been torched for an average of 87.6 points during this five-game skid.

Washington State finds itself at the bottom of the Pac-12 with a 1-6 SU record in conference play and an 8-11 SU record overall. The Cougars have lost seven of their last nine games dating back to Dec. 21 while going 3-6 ATS. The total has stayed UNDER in six of those games. DaVonte Lacy has led the team in scoring with 17.7 points, but he remains out of the lineup indefinitely with an injury to his appendix.

Oregon comes into this must-win game as a 6 ½-point favorite on the road.

The Ducks have won eight of the last nine meetings SU, but Washington State covered in both games last season. The total has gone OVER in three of the last four contests.

Utah Utes vs. No. 1 Arizona Wildcats (FOX Sports 1, 8:00 p.m.)

Utah lost a 79-75 heart-breaker to Arizona State on Thursday night, but it covered as a 4 ½-point road underdog to improve to 5-1 ATS in its last six games. The Utes are 14-5 SU on the year with a 3-4 record in the Pac-12. They have been a financial boon this season with an 11-2-1 record ATS. Utah is averaging 80.7 points a game and shooting an impressive 50.8 percent from the field, which is the third-best field goal percentage in the nation.

Arizona ran its unbeaten streak to 19 games this season with a 69-57 victory over Colorado, but it could not cover the 14 ½-point spread at home. It was just the second time in its last nine outings the Wildcats failed to cover as part of a 13-5 record ATS. The total has stayed UNDER in five of their last seven games. Nick Johnson leads a foursome of players scoring in double figures with 16.4 points a game. Arizona is averaging 75.5 points while holding opponents to just 56.7 points on defense.

The Wildcats will try and extend their winning streak to 20 games as 15-point home favorites over Utah.

The road team in this series is 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings and the total has gone OVER in four of the last five games. Arizona is 7-0 SU in the last seven meetings.

      • Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

We're going to be looking at Super Bowl props in this space for the next week. Here's our first look at six of them (LVH puts out a 44-page PDF of the props available). Some of the stuff is amazing........

-- Will either team score in the first 6:30 of the game?

-- Will either team score in last 2:00 of first half? Yes: -$240, No +$200.

-- Will either team score in last 3:30 of game (includes OT)?

-- Total sacks, both teams; 4.5. Over +$140, Under -$160

-- Golden Tate's first reception, 11.5 yards: Over, even. Under -$120.

-- Will Steven Hauschka's first kickoff be a touchback? Yes: +$155, No -$175.

Money must change hands on every play, especially early in the game.

        *****

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday......

        13) Clippers 126, Raptors 118-- Terence Ross made 10-17 3's, scored 51 points in a losing effort for Toronto; he had been averaging 10.2 ppg while making 40.7% of his 3-pointers this season.

        12) Thunder 103, 76ers 91-- Kevin Durant took Friday night off, then had a triple-double in this game. Sixers need three more wins to go over their total of 16 wins that was set in Las Vegas this summer./

        11) Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall is 132-33 over the last 4.5 years; in his last three years at Winthrop, he was 79-19. Guy is a terrific coach.

        10) Three of five Mountain West games went OT last night, and a fourth was decided by two points. Competitive and entertaining league.

        9) Fresno State has a kid named Cezar Guerrero who, to be kind, is not shy with the ball in his hands- he was 5-12 from arc at UNLV, just 1-8 inside it and also had six assists. His coach gives him a lot of freedom, and seeing as Fresno lost its last two games in OT, thats a lot of trust in a sophomore.

        8) St John's 69, Butler 52-- Wonder what the bigwigs at Butler think now- they're the smallish fish in a very big pond, their coach took off last summer for the money of the NBA, after this move was made. They're 1-7 in their first season in the Big East. Hope their admissions standards are low.

        7) You'll see a lot of college football coaches get contract extensions over the next 10 days; why? Because National Signing Day is February 5, and this is an easy way to get your coach's name in the news, while reassuring recruits the coach ain't going anywhere.

        6) Six of the the ten coaches in the Big X Conference have been to a Final Four, with Travis Ford/Fred Hoiberg two that haven't, and they both could get there this season. Trent Johnson has such a monstrous rebuilding job at TCU to try and catch up with some of the great programs in this league.

        5) Villanova 94, Marquette 85, OT-- A horrendous charging call caused this game to go OT; the Marquette defender had both his heels in the semi-circle, where charges aren't called. Supposedly. Villanova won anyway.

        4) San Diego 65, Portland 63........Gonzaga 84, BYU 69-- both teams that played in the triple OT game Thursday got beat Saturday night.

        3) Alabama 82, LSU 80-- Crimson Tide blew a 19-point second half lead, then pulled the game out late. LSU scored 57 points in second half and lost.

        2) Texas 74, Baylor 60-- Bears lost last four games, are 1-5 in Big X, after going 12-1 out of conference. Rick Barnes is doing better without having the highly touted recruits on his team- they're 5-2 in league play.

        1) Interesting to see how the Knicks are home all week and there are two outdoor hockey games in the Bronx, in the week before the Super Bowl in New Jersey. Lot of stuff to do this week, if you don't mind being cold for at least some of them. I am told this is the coldest winter in NY since 1978.

                  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Utah at Arizona: What bettors need to know
                  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                  Utah Utes at Arizona Wildcats

Top-ranked Arizona can set a school record for consecutive victories and looks to remain unbeaten when it hosts Utah in Sunday’s Pac-12 encounter. The Wildcats’ 19-game winning streak matches the mark set by the 1992-93 and 1997-98 squads and the 6-0 start in conference play is the school’s best since the 2002-03 campaign. Utah lost to Arizona State in the front end of a three-game road swing that concludes against Colorado.

The Wildcats have been a fixture atop the national rankings behind a well-balanced roster and their average winning margin is 18.8 points. Coach Sean Miller doesn’t want his players resting on their laurels and has reminded them that Utes are dangerous despite their 0-3 mark in Pac-12 road games. “Utah is one of the more improved teams in the country,” Miller told reporters. “If you look at their scores, even when they’ve lost they play everyone to the wire.”

                  TV: 8 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1

ABOUT UTAH (14-5, 3-4 Pac-12): Guard Delon Wright is the biggest reason for the Utes’ improvement this season and the all-purpose player is shooting 61.5 percent from the field. Wright leads Utah in assists (5.1) and steals (49) and also ranks second in scoring (15.9) and rebounding (7.2) behind forward Jordan Loveridge (16.7 and 8.1). Wright has topped 20 points five times – including 21 in the loss to Arizona State – and has scored in double figures in all but one game.

ABOUT ARIZONA (19-0, 6-0 Pac-12): Junior guard Nick Johnson is in the mix for Pac-12 Player of the Year honors and leads the Wildcats in scoring (16.4) and 3-pointers (32) while playing heady defense. Johnson’s 114 career steals ranks third among active Pac-12 players and he recently became the 48th player in school history to surpass 1,000 career points. Forwards Aaron Gordon (12.4 points, team-best 7.6 rebounds) and Brandon Ashley (12.2) are also averaging in double digits while point guard T.J. McConnell has a 3-to-1 assists to turnover ratio while averaging 6.1 assists per game.

                  TRENDS:

                  * Over is 4-1 in the last five meetings.
                  * Wildcats are 15-5 ATS in their last 20 home games.
                  * Utes are 1-4 ATS in their last five Sunday games.
                  * Under is 5-0 in Wildcats last five home games vs. a team with a road winning percent of less than .400.

                  TIP-INS:

                  1. Arizona has won the last seven meetings.

                  2. The Wildcats have won 16 consecutive home games and have a 33-7 home mark in Pac-12 play during Miller’s five seasons.

                  3. Utah is shooting a solid 50.8 percent from the field and holding opponents to 39.9.

Editor's Note: Don't miss out on college basketball selections from Brian Edwards on VegasInsider.com!

                          **Duke at Pittsburgh**

-- Most books opened Pittsburgh (18-2 straight up, 7-9-1 against the spread) as a 3.5-point favorite.

-- Pitt went on the road Saturday and knocked off Maryland 83-79 as a 3.5-point road favorite. However, the early number was four so some gamblers on the Panthers suffered a horrible push. That's because Pitt missed EIGHT free throws in the last 1:11, including a pair with two ticks remaining. Cameron Wright was the main goat, missing four of six attempts at the charity stripe in the last 47 seconds. Wright also committed a senseless foul to put Maryland on the free-throw line and had a horrible turnover that led to a layup with 1:26 left.

-- Pittsburgh senior forward Lamar Patterson is playing like an absolute beast and he was the catalyst against the Terrapins. Patterson produced 28 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Talib Zanna added 16 points and seven boards.

-- Patterson is averaging 17.9 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. He has terrific range on his jumper and is making 51.3 percent from the field and 43 percent from deep.

-- Jamie Dixon's team is unbeaten in 12 home games, but it has limped to a 3-6 spread record. With that said, we should note that eight of those nine lined home games had the Panthers as double-digit favorites. They took the cash in their only situation as single-digit home favorites. Also, Pitt is 4-2 ATS in six single-digit 'chalk' spots.

-- Duke (16-4 SU, 12-8 ATS) has won four consecutive games since losing at Clemson on Jan. 11. The Blue Devils destroyed FSU by an 78-56 count on Saturday. They covered the spread for the third straight game as nine-point home favorites. Rodney Hood paced the winners with 18 points and nine rebounds. Jabari Parker made just 3-of-14 shots from the field, but he still had a double-double with 14 points and 14 boards.

-- Parker's numbers have dipped in ACC play, but he's still enjoyed an outstanding freshman campaign. The Chicago product is averaging 18.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. Hood, a transfer from Mississippi St., is scoring at a 17.6 PPG clip and hitting 51.1 percent of his shots from the field.

-- Duke has only been an underdog once this year, losing 72-66 against top-ranked Arizona as a three-point 'dog at Madison Square Garden in NYC.

-- The 'under' is 11-8 overall for Duke after connecting in back-to-back games.

-- The 'over' is 11-5 overall for Pitt, 7-1 in its home games.

-- The 'over' is on a 19-7 run in Pitt's last 26 home games.

-- These new ACC adversaries haven't squared off since Dec. 20 of 2007 at Madison Square Garden, where Pitt captured a 65-64 overtime win as a six-point underdog. Levance Fields, a member of my All-Dunkin-Donuts Hall of Fame, paced the Panthers with 21 points.

-- Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN.

                          **Oklahoma St. at Oklahoma**

-- As of Sunday night, most spots were listing Oklahoma St. (16-3 SU, 8-7 ATS) as a four-point 'chalk.'

-- Travis Ford's team struggled to sneak past West Va. at home on Saturday. OSU won an 81-75 decision but never threatened to cover the number as a 13.5-point home favorite. Marcus Smart had the worst performance of his collegiate career, fouling out after scoring just four points and making only 1-of-7 shots from the field. After fouling out, Smart kicked a chair on the bench and temporarily walked off the court. He issued an apology via twitter on Sunday.

-- Le'Bryan Nash led OSU to victory against the Mountaineers. He scored 29 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field and also secured nine rebounds. Markel Brown added 15 points and 10 rebounds.

-- Smart has slumped recently but he's still one of the nation's premier players. He's averaging 17.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.5 steals per game. The only blemish on Smart's stat resume is a mediocre 43.8 shooting percentage from the field.

-- Oklahoma (16-4 SU, 9-8-1 ATS) hooked me up with a winner Saturday in its 74-65 win at Texas Tech as a one-point underdog. (I know Tubby Smith has the Red Raiders improved, but I have no clue how they were favored against OU.) Buddy Heild scored a team-high 18 points for the Sooners.

-- Lon Kruger's squad has won nine of its 11 home games, but it has an abysmal 3-6 ATS mark in Norman. This is OU's third game as a home 'dog. The Sooners, who are 5-2-1 ATS in eight 'dog situations (home/away or neutral), beat Iowa St. outright at home but lost by seven to Kansas as six-point home puppies.

-- The 'over' is 10-7 overall for the Sooners, 6-2 in their home games. However, they have seen the 'under' cash in five consecutive games.

-- The 'over' is 9-6 overall for OSU, going 6-2 in its last eight games.

-- The 'over' is 7-1 in the last eight head-to-head meetings between these bitter in-state rivals.

-- The 'over' is on a 20-7 run in Oklahoma's last 27 home games.

-- These schools split a pair of regular-season encounters last season, but OU took the cash in both meetings and has covered at a 5-1 clip in the last six Bedlam showdowns.

-- ESPN will have the telecast at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.

                          • Top 10 - Stock Watch

                            January 28, 2014

Expect chaos these next few weeks, as unranked teams look to find a “marquee” win over worthy opponents, in an effort to earn a spot in March.

From my experience the Top 10 will jockey positions a lot from now until conference tournaments.

In other words…we begin dumping our portfolio. Teams we bought in December are no longer profitable.

                            Let’s take a look.

                            1) Arizona: (20-0 SU, 13-6 ATS) - BUY

We’re not jumping off the Wildcat bandwagon quite yet. Sean Miller has his team playing at their very best and is definitely a final four contender, but their perfect season will come to an end…just not this week.

                            2) Syracuse: (19-0 SU, 10-4-1 ATS) - SELL

Want to win championships? Having a good point guard is critical and Syracuse has the best in the country. Once you’ve seen Tyler Ennis play you may never bet against him again. As long as he’s healthy, Syracuse has a chance to win it. If you want to bet the Orange from here on out, expect to lay a big number.

                            3) Florida: (17-2 SU, 8-6-1 ATS) - SELL

The Gators will continue to win games, especially with their 9th best defense, but it’s their ATS record that concerns me, especially on the road where they struggle to cover. This week they play at Mississippi State and I don’t believe they will cover a double-digit number.

                            4) Wichita State: (21-0 SU, 13-3-1 ATS) - BUY

The Shockers’ big test will come next week when they travel to Indiana State. This week with Loyola- Chicago and Evansville on their “to do list” it will be just another ho hum week.

                            5) San Diego State: (18-1 SU, 10-6 ATS) - HOLD

The Aztecs snuck one out against Utah State last week and are starting to understand how tough the Mountain west conference can be on the road. That won’t be a problem this week as they play at home against Colorado State. This is, however the second go around for the Rams this season…covering could be a challenge.

                            6) Kansas (15-4 SU, 9-9-1 ATS) - SELL

The Jayhawks play a struggling Iowa State team on Wednesday at home before they travel to Texas on Saturday. I’ll make this simple. They beat the Cyclones, but don’t cover. If some rare chance they’re underdogs against the Longhorns, I would think twice about betting Kansas.

                            7) Michigan State (18-2 SU, 10-7-2 ATS) - HOLD

The Spartans have performed better ATS on the road than at home being 5-1. They are going to need all the help they a can get when they face the Buckeyes. Due to Michigan State’s previous loss to Michigan, the spread will be within reach, but man it’s hard to win in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Too close to call.

                            8) Oklahoma State (16-3 SU, 8-8 ATS) - SELL

The Cowboys finally make it to the Top 10, only to get beat by the Sooners on Monday night. Their record against the spread is poor and their week-to-week performance is inconsistent. Too much uncertainty to be making bets on All-American Marcus Smart and company.

                            9) Villanova (17-2 SU, 13-5 ATS) - BUY

Besides their meltdown to Creighton last week the Wildcats have one of the best ATS records in the country and playing Temple this week will not threaten it. Buy the Wildcats while you have the chance because February gets tough.

                            10) Michigan (15-4 SU, 10-6-1 ATS) – SELL

Surprised to see Michigan in the Top-10? Don’t be. They are playing better than anyone in the country. There’s just one little problem…they play at Indiana on Super Bowl Sunday. Betting on teams playing inside Assembly Hall is never wise.

                            • Super Tuesday

                              January 28, 2014

                              **Michigan State at Iowa**

-- As of late Monday night, most betting shops had Iowa (16-4 straight up, 12-6 against the spread) installed as a six-point home 'chalk.'

-- Michigan State (18-2 SU, 10-7-2 ATS) saw its 11-game winning streak snapped Saturday night at Breslin Center where Michigan emerged from East Lansing with an 80-75 win. The Wolverines won outright as five-point underdogs, hooking up money-line backers with a +185 return (risk $100 to win $185). A rash of injuries for the Spartans finally caught up to them. They were playing without their two best 'bigs' in Adreian Payne (foot) Branden Dawson (fracture bone in his shooting hand).

-- In the loss to Michigan, Michigan State was outscored 50-39 in the second half. Gary Harris played tremendous in the losing effort, finishing with a game-high 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field and 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Harris also had five rebounds, three steals and two assists compared to just one turnover. Keith Appling had 10 points and 10 assists.

-- This is Tom Izzo's first underdog situation of the season. Sparty has been perfect in five true road assignments, going 5-0 both SU and ATS.

-- Payne, who averages 16.2 points and 7.7 rebounds per game, is listed as 'doubtful' and will probably miss his six straight game at Iowa. Dawson isn't expected to return until late February or early March. He averages 10.2 points and 8.7 rebounds per conteState

-- Iowa is unbeaten in 11 home games, compiling a 6-2 spread record.

-- Iowa is No. 30 in the RPI Rankings. There isn't one shameful loss on the Hawkeyes' resume, as their defeats have come at Michigan, at Iowa State, at Wisconsin and vs. Villanova on a neutral court. Fran McCaffrey's squad has three scalps of RPI Top-50 foes, winning at Ohio State, at home vs. Minnesota and vs. Xavier on a neutral floor.

-- Iowa's best player is Roy-Devyn Marble, the son of former Hawkeye great Roy Marble. The younger Marble leads the team in scoring (16.0 PPG) and steals (2.0 per game). He is second on the team in assists with 63.

-- Despite seeing back-to-back 'unders,' Iowa has seen the 'over' go 11-6 overall, 6-2 in its home games.

-- The 'over' is 10-9 overall for the Spartans, 4-2 in their last six games.

-- Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN.

                              **Kentucky at LSU**

-- The calendar hasn't even hit February yet, so it would be a bit premature to imply that this is a must-win for LSU. But it's not too early to call this a pivotal home date with Kentucky. With an RPI of 65 and zero wins over RPI Top-50 foes, the Tigers' chances of earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament would take a serious hit with a home loss to UK.

-- As of late Monday night, most books had Kentucky (15-4 SU, 8-7-2 ATS) listed as a three-point road favorite.

-- LSU (12-6 SU, 4-7-3 ATS) collected a solid home win over Missouri last Tuesday night, but then it dropped an 82-80 decision at Alabama as a two-point 'dog. Johnny O'Bryant led five LSU players in double figures with 18 points against the Crimson Tide.

-- LSU has won eight of its 10 home games while posting a 2-3-1 spread record. The Tigers lost outright in Baton Rouge to Rhode Island and Tennessee (by 18!). This is LSU's first home underdog spot. It owns a 1-2-1 spread record in four games as a dog either on the road or at a neutral site.

-- Since losing 82-77 at North Carolina on Dec. 14, John Calipari's team has won seven of their eight games and is sporting a 5-1 SEC record. Kentucky blasted Georgia 79-54 at Rupp Arena on Saturday, easily covering the number as a 14-point home 'chalk.' Aaron Harrison scored a team-high 15 points, while Julius Randle finished with 14 points and nine rebounds.

-- The 'over' has hit in four consecutive LSU games to improve to 7-6-1 overall, 4-2 in its home games at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge.

-- The 'under' is 9-6-1 for UK, but the 'over' is 2-1 in its three true road assignments.

-- UK has won five in a row over LSU in this SEC rivalry, but the Tigers have taken the money in back-to-back meetings. When these teams met at Rupp Arena last year, the 'Cats captured a 75-70 win as 15.5-point home favorites.

-- ESPN will have television coverage at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.

                              **B.E.'s Bonus Nuggets**

-- Duke picked up a monster win for its resume Monday night at Pittsburgh. Jabari Parker scored 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the Blue Devils to a convincing 80-65 victory as 4.5-point road underdogs. Andre Dawkins came off the bench and in just 15 minutes of playing time scored 20 points thanks to 6-of-7 shooting from behind the 3-point line. The loss was Pitt's first at home this season.

-- Former Louisville player Chane Behanan has enrolled in school at Colorado State, and he will be eligible to play for Larry Eustachy's program next season. Assuming Behanan can keep his nose clean, this is a big get for Eustachy, who is now working on about a decade of sobriety. Behanan reportedly spent time with John Lucas in Houston after his dismissal from Rick Pitino's program.

--Oklahoma improved to 6-2-1 ATS in nine underdog spots with last night's 88-76 home win over Oklahoma State while catching four points. The Sooners hooked up money-line supporters with a payout in the +160 range (risk $100 to win $160).

-- Arkansas is a 5.5-point home favorite Tuesday vs. Missouri. When I was in New Orleans for the 2012 Final Four, I tweeted about how I found it odd to see Arky head coach Mike Anderson and Mizzou HC Frank Haith hanging out together at Harrah's Casino on multiple occasions over the weekend. Obviously, Anderson left Mizzou to take over at Arkansas, and his departure left a lot of the Tigers faithful quite upset with Anderson. So I found it even more peculiar when Haith acted like he wanted to go after Anderson at midcourt as a timeout was called at one point in the first half. As Haith was screaming at Anderson and making a scene for the ESPN cameras, the Mizzou assistants restrained him as Anderson simply smiled at him. I'll be interested to watch their interactions at Bud Walton Arena in a key SEC showdown for both teams that could be dubbed bubble squads even at this early stage.

-- Villanova's nine-game run for the 'over' ended last night in a win at Georgetown. What didn't end was the Hoyas' winless woes since center Josh Smith was lost for the season due to academic reasons. Georgetown has lost five in a row without Smith.
