Three hot MLB moneyline arms to consider Sunday
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is a lot of action on the board Sunday, but we'll focus on three pitchers getting the start who may be worth look on the moneyline. These guys are coming off some great performances and are hot going into their respective starts Sunday.

Scott Feldman, Chicago Cubs (3-3, 2.70)

Feldman has wins in his last three outings and his ERA has dropped after a rough start in his first three games. Feldman's ERA is an excellent 1.61 in his last three starts and was 4.50 following his lukewarm start to the season. Feldman has just four earned runs in 22 2/3 innings pitched in those three starts.

The Cubbies continue their series with the Washington Nationals Sunday.

Eric Stults, San Diego Padres, (3-2, 4.50 ERA)

The Padres have won each of the last three games that Stults has started and the lefty is coming off a pair of his best starts this season. In the 13 innings pitched in his previous two outings, he has yielded just three earned runs.

Stults will get the ball versus the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday.

Zach McAllister, Cleveland Indians, (3-3, 2.63 ERA)

The big righty leads the Tribe with a 2.63 ERA and is coming off two excellent performances. McAllister went 7 2/3 strong innings with no earned runs in his last outing versus the Oakland A's. Over his last two starts, he has just been touched up for two earned runs in 14 2/3 innings.

The Indians will finish their series versus the Detroit Tigers Sunday.

Sunday Night Baseball: Angels at White Sox
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Two of the most disappointing teams in the American League go at it on Sunday Night Baseball as the Chicago White Sox host the Los Angeles Angels.

Los Angeles Angels at Chicago White Sox (-116, 8)

      CHRIS SETS SALE FOR VICTORIES

Chris Sale is on a nice stretch of pitching ever since allowing eight runs in Cleveland to the Indians. He has made four starts since that game, giving up a total of only eight runs while picking up two wins. Sale has been a better pitcher at home throughout his career. This season is no different as he has two wins from his three starts in Chicago. The southpaw faced the Angels last season back on May 17 and he gave up just one run and five hits in just over five innings. He has shown great control on the year, walking only 12 batters in 471/3 innings of work.

WILSON IS WINNING FOR THE ANGELS

C.J. Wilson has been up and down this season despite sporting a 3-1 record. The lefty has allowed three earned runs or more in four of his seven starts. His last time out, Wilson gave up seven runs to the Astros and picked up the loss in a 7-6 game. He struck out 12 while walking two in that game. The Angels’ starter has battled with control issues, walking four or more batters in all but three starts. Wilson was on the losing end of Sale's start last year as he gave up four runs and four hits in just over three innings. Once again, walks were an issue; he allowed six free passes in that game.

      INJURY REPORT

Chicago's infirmary report is relatively clean. The rotation is without Gavin Floyd who had Tommy John surgery and John Danks who is recovering from shoulder surgery. Danks could rejoin the rotation within a few weeks. Gordon Beckham broke a bone in his left wrist back on April 9 and he will be out for a few more weeks. The Angels’ injury issues start with the loss of Jered Weaver. He broke his non-throwing elbow on April 7 and is still recovering. The bullpen is without Ryan Madson (elbow), Sean Burnett (forearm), and Kevin Jepsen (back). Alberto Callaspo is dealing with right calf tightness and remains out. Finally, the Halos are missing the speed of Peter Bourjos who is dealing with a strained hamstring.

      TRENDS

*The under is 11-5 in the Angels’ last 16 Sunday games.
*Angels are 6-2 in Wilson's last eight road starts.
*White Sox are 2-5 in their last seven Sunday games.
*White Sox are 11-5 in Sale’s last 16 starts vs. a team with a losing record.

      HITTERS TO WATCH

      Josh Hamilton 1-for-5 vs. Sale
      Mike Trout 0-for-3 vs. Sale

      Jeff Keppinger 5-for-21 vs. Wilson
      Alex Rios 4-for-12 vs. Wilson

                    • Hot & Not - NL Edition

                      May 13, 2013

The middle of May is here, and the dog days of summer are approaching. Today, we're using our watchful MLB handicapping eyes to show you the teams that are hot as fire and cold as ice in the National League.

                      Money-Makers

St. Louis Cardinals (9-2, +$623 in L/11) – For the second time this year, the Cardinals held a team down without a run in back-to-back games. This time though, matters were far more impressive, as they held the Rockies down to a total of three hits in both contest over the weekend. St. Louis enters this week with the best record in the National League.

On Deck: A juicy week and a half is ahead for the Cards, and we would be shocked if they aren't at least at 30 wins the next time we address the NL in two weeks. They've got four with the Mets, three with the Brew Crew, and three in San Diego on the horizon.

Cincinnati Reds (7-2, +$487 in L/9) – That must mean that Dusty Baker and the gang have been playing a lot of games at home of late! The Reds actually started this run with successive wins against the Cubs at Wrigley Field, but that doesn't really change the hard facts. This team is 16-6 at home and 6-10 on the road thus far this season.

On Deck: The bad news is that the Reds are on the road for their next nine games. The good news is that they don't have a series upcoming against a team with a winning record until May 27th. It's all NL East teams between now and then.

Chicago Cubs (4-2, +$369 in L/6) – First baseman Anthony Rizzo has a contract that will keep him with the Cubbies through the end of the decade, and the team won four of six games this week. The bad news? Chicago is still seven-games below .500, and barring the Apocalypse, this won't be the year that all of this Billy Goat nonsense can leave Chi-Town.

On Deck: Don't get used to the winning ways, Cubs fans. Your team was swept the last time it ran up against the Rockies, the team on deck to start off this week.

                      Money-Burners

Los Angeles Dodgers (4-10, -$893 in L/14) – Can you believe that the Dodgers in their tremendously rich history had never lost eight games in a row to start a month before May 2013? LA is a mess right now, and its bats are amongst the worst in the National League.

On Deck: Three with the Nats and a trip to the East Coast to Atlanta await, and we have a feeling that this is going to turn out to be one of the worst months in the history of this organization when it's said and done with.

Milwaukee Brewers (1-8, -$880 in L/9) – You're not going to find a team that is more bipolar than this one. The Brewers started the year at 2-8, won nine straight games, and since are 5-12 in their last 17.

On Deck: And that's probably only getting worse over the course of the next few weeks. The team plays four at Pittsburgh and three at Busch Stadium this week.

Miami Marlins (1-5, -$370 in L/6) – Since this is nothing new to see the Marlins losing games, we'll just go over some fun stats for them instead. The team ranks dead last in total offense, dead last in team batting average, dead last in team OPS, dead last in team home runs, dead last in errors, and dead last in average attendance in the National League. It's not good when your team has seven more errors than home runs on the campaign.

On Deck: Lots of games as underdogs. Lots of them. The Marlins have been favored exactly zero times this season, and visits from Cincinnati and Arizona aren’t going to change that.

                      • Preview: Padres (16-21) at Orioles (23-15)

                        Game: 1
Venue: Oriole Park at Camden Yards
                        Date: May 14, 2013 7:05 PM EDT

The Baltimore Orioles continue to play well, even though their fragile starting rotation may have taken another hit.

They'll look to Chris Tillman to give them a much-needed strong start when they host the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night.

Baltimore (23-15) has won six of eight and looks forward to an eight-game homestand - the first two coming versus the Padres - after playing 14 of 17 on the road. The Orioles capped that stretch with a 6-0 win at Minnesota on Sunday, though it was bittersweet.

A strained right oblique forced Wei-Yin Chen to exit after five innings. Chen, who's allowed two runs in 11 1-3 innings over his past two starts, is expected to go on the 15-day disabled list.

With Chen likely sidelined for a couple weeks, the rotation remains Baltimore's primary weakness. The Orioles rank in the top 10 in most offensive categories and their bullpen ERA of 2.64 is also among the best, while their 11 errors are the second fewest.

The starting staff, however, has a 4.70 ERA that's among the highest in baseball. Along with Chen, Tillman (3-1, 3.76) has been one of the few bright spots, winning three straight starts and posting a 2.03 ERA in his past four outings.

The right-hander's ERA in his first three starts was 7.07, but he's pitched at least six innings in his last four games.

"You get your team deep in the ballgame, you feel good about it, whether or not you featured your best stuff," Tillman told the team's official website.

The Padres (16-21) were swept in three games at Tampa over the weekend, the same number of defeats they suffered in the previous 14 games.

San Diego squandered a lead in each loss as it was swept for the fourth time, one shy of last season's total. Closer Huston Street allowed Evan Longoria's winning home run with two outs in the ninth Saturday, and the Rays went ahead Sunday on Yunel Escobar's RBI double in the sixth.

"They were three well-played close games that didn't go our way,' manager Bud Black said. "They got the big hit last night in the ninth. Escobar got a big hit today. So, a couple of pitches back, we win two out of three.'

The Padres struck out 38 times in the series - their most in a three-game set since they had 40 against the New York Yankees from June 17-19, 2008.

Baltimore was much better offensively over the weekend, collecting 20 runs and 41 hits in taking two of three from the Twins.

"We've been swinging the bats well the last few days, and it feels good to win a game by a pretty good margin,' said first baseman Chris Davis, who hit his 11th homer Sunday.

Andrew Cashner (2-2, 3.23 ERA) will be tasked with slowing down the Orioles' lineup. Beginning the season as a reliever after a thumb injury hindered him in spring training, he has a 2.95 ERA in four starts.

The right-hander is coming off the longest outing of his career, allowing four hits in 7 1-3 innings of a 5-0 victory over Miami last Monday.

Nick Markakis has gone 11 for 25 in six games against the Padres and is a career .351 hitter in interleague play.

The Orioles own a 5-4 advantage in the all-time series with San Diego.

                        • Preview: Astros (10-29) at Tigers (21-15)

                          Game: 2
                          Venue: Comerica Park
                          Date: May 14, 2013 7:08 PM EDT

While Doug Fister looks to bounce back from his first loss, the Detroit Tigers will try to pound Houston Astros starter Lucas Harrell for the second time in 10 days.

The Tigers go for their seventh straight win over the league-worst Astros on Tuesday night at Comerica Park.

After losing four of five to fall into a first-place tie with Cleveland in the AL Central, Detroit (21-15) took the opener of this series 7-2 on Monday to regain a half-game lead following the Indians' doubleheader split with the Yankees.

The Tigers now look to continue their dominance of the Astros (10-29) with Fister (4-1, 3.14 ERA) on the mound after outscoring them 44-10 in winning each of the first five meetings this season.

After limiting opponents to three runs or less in each of his first six starts, the right-hander gave up five runs and eight hits over three innings in a 5-4 loss at Washington on Thursday.

It was his shortest start other than an outing in 2011 when he was taken out after two innings because of a lengthy rain delay.

"It was just lack of executing," Fister said. "I didn't keep the ball down. I got a lot of the plate a lot of the time and they made me pay for it."

In his only career start against Houston, Fister did not receive a decision after allowing three runs and a season-worst nine hits over six innings in a 4-3 win May 3.

The Astros, who have dropped 12 of 13 on the road, will try to avoid matching a season high with their sixth straight defeat overall.

Harrell (3-3, 4.67) allowed eight runs and 10 hits over 4 1-3 innings in a 17-2 loss to the Tigers on May 4, but he's 3-0 with a 1.82 ERA in his other five starts since mid-April.

Miguel Cabrera, Torii Hunter and Omar Infante each had two hits in as many at_bats against the right-hander in that rout, with Cabrera hitting a two-run homer. Cabrera had his 11-game hit streak end Monday when he went 0 for 4.

Harrell, who makes his first start at Comerica Park, will try to give Houston a lift a night after top starter Bud Norris went down after five innings with lower back spasms.

Harrell won't have to deal with center fielder Austin Jackson after Detroit placed its leadoff man on the 15-day disabled list because of a pulled hamstring Monday.

Don Kelly was in center field and Andy Dirks went 3 for 4 with his first career grand slam while filling in at the leadoff spot.

"I've hit leadoff in college and I've hit leadoff in the big leagues and in the minor leagues," Dirks said. "It's really nothing different."

Houston may also be missing a key part of its lineup after second baseman Jose Altuve left with a jaw injury following a collision with right fielder Jimmy Paredes in the second inning Monday.

Altuve has been a bright spot with a team-best .333 batting average, and he went 3 for 4 against Fister on May 3.

"Altuve came out for precautionary reasons, and he's already told me that he's playing tomorrow," manager Bo Porter said.

Porter's club has struggled against Detroit this season with a .181 batting average and seven extra-base hits.

                            Game: 1
                            Venue: Yankee Stadium
                            Date: May 14, 2013 7:05 PM EDT

Unbeatable in recent outings, Felix Hernandez will try to stay hot by continuing his recent success against the New York Yankees. The Seattle Mariners ace, though, might have a considerable challenge in this upcoming game at Yankee Stadium.

That's because the Yankees' CC Sabathia will also be seeking his ninth win in as many starts against Seattle in Tuesday night's series opener.

Hernandez (5-2, 1.53 ERA) improved to 4-0 with a 0.71 ERA in his last five starts after a 2-1 victory in Pittsburgh on Wednesday. He's earned three of those wins on the road while allowing one run in 22 innings.

Hernandez is 4-1 with a 1.13 ERA in his last five road starts against the Yankees (24-14) and threw a two-hitter at Yankee Stadium in his most recent matchup with New York on Aug. 4.

He's also 7-2 with a 2.19 ERA in his last 10 overall starts against the Yankees.

Hernandez, though, might have to outduel Sabathia (4-3, 3.23) in this one. The New York left-hander has posted a 1.20 ERA while winning his past eight matchups with Seattle (18-20) and is 4-0 with a 1.50 ERA in his last four meetings in New York.

"That's a big matchup right there," Hernandez told the team's website. "I just have to go out there and match him and do whatever we have to do to win the game."

Hernandez will have the benefit of a little extra rest thanks to the Mariners' pair of off days since his most recent start, and Sabathia could come into this outing a little fresher than usual as well.

Sabathia had his latest start Thursday in Colorado cut short by a lengthy rain delay. He allowed one run, one hit and one walk over four innings in a 3-1 victory.

The Yankees had a season-high five-game win streak snapped with a 1-0 loss in the opener of Monday's doubleheader in Cleveland, but bounced back with a 7-0 rout in the finale.

Vernon Wells had a pair of RBIs and Lyle Overbay hit a two-run double in a six-run seventh inning. The two contests were added to a six-game trip after New York was rained out twice in Cleveland in April.

"This is a great road trip for us," manager Joe Girardi said. "We played three teams that were playing well. Colorado was a game or two out when we played them. Kansas City was tied for first and these guys are in first. To do that, it's a really good road trip."

Girardi's club might get a boost during the series if Curtis Granderson can return from a fractured right forearm. The outfielder has been rehabbing at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre but when he will return is unknown.

"I've always said when Grandy feels that he's ready, then come on," said Girardi, who planned to speak with GM Brian Cashman about the center fielder. "We want him back in our lineup. If he feels he's ready to go, he's ready to go."

The Mariners enter this game having won nine of 13 but are 7-11 away from home this season and went 3-2 on their most recent road trip. They're 3-8 in their last 11 road games against the Yankees and went 3-6 overall in last season's series.

Hernandez earned two of those wins while allowing two runs over 16 1-3 innings. Sabathia gave up three runs and three hits in a complete game in his only matchup with Seattle in 2012, a 6-3 win at Yankee Stadium on Aug. 3.

A matchup of Cy Young Award winners will take a backseat to an unusual reunion for the San Francisco Giants.

Outfielder Melky Cabrera, suspended for drug use last season and now with the Toronto Blue Jays, faces his former team for the first time Tuesday night in Canada.

San Francisco's Barry Zito (3-1, 2.75 ERA) and Toronto's R.A. Dickey (2-5, 5.06) will start the opener of this two-game set, and Cabrera is expected to receive a World Series ring from Giants manager Bruce Bochy beforehand.

Cabrera was suspended 50 games Aug. 15 for a positive testosterone test. The MVP of last year's All-Star game, he was left off the Giants' postseason roster.

The outfielder also made the unprecedented move of disqualifying himself for the NL batting title. He hit .346 for San Francisco (23-15), and the Giants' Buster Posey ended up winning the crown by leading the major leagues at .336.

Bochy said that he intends to speak with Cabrera and thank him for his contributions to the reigning World Series champions.

"I'm appreciative of him being here and playing hard every day,' Bochy said. "What's happened, happened. That's behind us. I do know he's a good person, he is, and he was a good teammate. I will thank him for that.'

Cabrera signed a $16 million, two-year deal with Toronto (15-24) in the offseason.

"They called me and they told me that they would give me a ring," he told the Blue Jays' official website. "I asked them to ship it and they said, 'No, we're going to give it to you when we go to Toronto.' It's special for me."

Cabrera started off slow, but has posted a .353 average in his last eight games while playing with pain in his hamstrings. He is 0 for 4 against Zito.

"I know I'm going to see a lot of my friends there, and I'm going to say hi to those guys, but I've got to continue to play the game I have been doing so far," Cabrera said.

Along with Cabrera, Zito will have to be careful with Edwin Encarnacion, 4 for 7 with two homers against him.

The left-hander is second all-time with 20 interleague losses, going 5-12 with a 6.75 ERA in 17 such outings for the Giants. Zito has been sharp this year, allowing one or no earned runs in six starts.

Dickey, who won the NL Cy Young Award with the New York Mets last year, has gone 0-3 with a 5.76 ERA over his last four starts. He owns a 6.75 ERA at home as opposed to 3.55 on the road.

San Francisco has won 10 of 13 as it opens a six-game trip. Former Blue Jays infielder Marco Scutaro has gone 23 for 48 (.479) during a 12-game hitting streak.

Though Toronto is in last place, it's among the MLB leaders with 51 homers. The Jays matched a season high with five in a 12-4 win at Boston on Sunday, with Jose Bautista hitting two.

The Cleveland Indians head into Philadelphia as one of the hottest teams in baseball and are hoping to stay that way by repeating their most recent performances against the Phillies.

The Indians will seek their 14th win in 18 contests in the opener of a two-game series Tuesday night.

Cleveland (21-16) earned another victory in its brief return home Monday as Jason Kipnis hit a solo home run in a 1-0 win over the New York Yankees. The Indians, though, fell 7-0 in the finale of a doubleheader that was required because of a pair of rainouts in April.

The Indians are visiting Philadelphia with four wins in their last five on the road and will try to add to that by duplicating their splendid performance earlier this season against the Phillies (18-21).

Cleveland outscored Philadelphia 20-2 and posted a 31-8 advantage in hits during a two-game home sweep April 30-May 1.

The Indians will try to win another game with help from Scott Kazmir (2-1, 4.87 ERA), who will seek his third victory in as many starts. The left-hander gave up one run and five hits over six innings in a 9-2 win over Oakland on Thursday.

Kazmir has allowed two runs or fewer in each of his last three outings.

"I just feel comfortable, and I feel confident out there," Kazmir told the team's official website. "And I feel like it's going to get better and better."

Kazmir is 1-1 with a 4.20 ERA in three starts against Philadelphia. He hasn't faced the Phillies since making two starts in the 2008 World Series while with Tampa Bay.

In this matchup, he'll pitch opposite 22-year-old rookie Jonathan Pettibone (2-0, 3.63). The right-hander has given up three runs or fewer in each of his first four major league starts but did not get a decision in a 4-3 loss in San Francisco on Wednesday.

Pettibone gave up three runs, seven hits and a career-high four walks in 5 2-3 innings. The Phillies had won in each of his other three outings.

"Kind of each time out, you get more and more comfortable," Pettibone told the Phillies' official website. "Your confidence gets up each time out. You just kind of build off that. From there, I don't really know what's going to happen. All you can do is focus start to start and go from there."

Pettibone will next try to help Philadelphia to its third three-game win streak in 2013. The Phillies matched a season best with 15 hits in a 4-2 win in 10 innings at Arizona on Sunday.

Ryan Howard hit a two-run single in the 10th after going hitless with 10 strikeouts in his previous 18 at_bats.

"My frustration level coming in to today? I don't know if I can really put a number on it," Howard said. "It's definitely been frustrating. Upset. Ticked off. But you just try to keep separating each at-bat. And I was able to get one to fall."

Philadelphia is hosting Cleveland for the second time. The Phillies recorded a three-game sweep in the other visit June 22-24, 2010.
