UConn visits Marquette in Big East opener
CONNECTICUT HUSKIES (10-2)
at MARQUETTE GOLDEN EAGLES (9-3)
Harris Bradley Center – Milwaukee, WI
Tip-off: Tuesday, 8:00 p.m. ET
Line: Marquette -6.5, Total: 133
Connecticut and Marquette will ring in 2013 by kicking off Big East play.
Under head coach Kevin Ollie, and his new contract extension, the Huskies have begun this campaign well, led by the strong play of SG Shabazz Napier (16.5 PPG, 3.8 APG). The Golden Eagles, meanwhile, lack the same go-to scoring threats but have survived with their efficiency on the offensive end, making 47.7% of their field goals. Even though Connecticut is unable to play in the NCAA Tournament this year, this could be a good opportunity for the Golden Eagles to defend their turf and earn a strong resume-building win.

The ******* experts continue to roll in the past two weeks, posting a collective 56-37-1 ATS (60%) record since Dec. 14. ******* Scott is 11-7-1 ATS (61%) over this stretch, while ******* Dave is 19-12 ATS (61%) in these 18 days. The experts now have a collective 54% ATS mark (170-148-7) in college basketball Best Bets for the season, led by ******* Gary, who is a whopping 13-4 ATS (77%) since Dec. 19, and sits at 62% ATS (41-25) for the season, while Dave is at 55% ATS (61-51-2) on the year.
Napier leads the Huskies offense, and is also a defensive stalwart with 2.3 SPG. Sophomore PG Ryan Boatright (15.8 PPG, 4.6 APG) commands the offense, but can score too, even as he distributes the ball effectively. Those two and freshman swingman Omar Calhoun (11.2 PPG) all average more than 30 MPG, but the frontcourt is much less reliable. Six-foot-8 DeAndre Daniels (10.0 PPG, 4.3 RPG) leads the team in rebounding while 6-foot-9 junior Tyler Olander (4.3 PPG, 3.8 RPG) paces the team in blocks (1.6 BPG), playing just 20.3 MPG.
SG Vander Blue (13.4 PPG) is the lead scoring threat for Marquette and 6-foot-8 PF Davante Gardner (12.5 PPG) is the team’s only other double-digit scorer, and he also paces the team in rebounds at 5.0 RPG. No Golden Eagles player averages even one block per game in a frontcourt that lacks size with Gardner and 6-foot-7 Jamil Wilson (9.0 PPG, 4.4 RPG) playing the majority of the time down there. They win through the play of PG Junior Cadougan (9.5 PPG, 4.6 APG) creating good looks for the team. Fellow guard Todd Mayo (7.0 PPG) will play just his third game of the season Tuesday, but has proven to be a threat on the defensive end with 2.0 SPG.
