Off to a fast (0-4) start in the Bowl Games. Luckily i have 33 more tries to get it right!
5* BYU -3 (8:05 PM)
Interesting matchup here of 2 very familiar opponents. They were both members of the Mountain West until BYU departed after 2010. They faced each other in 13 straight seasons with BYU having the decided advantage (11-2) SU (9-4) ATS. The Aztecs are riding a backup QB in this game and BYU may be doing the same. The Aztecs will be missing a key piece after Senior RB Walter Kazee tore his ACL in the final regular season game. He was their 2nd leading rusher with over 800 yards and 8 TD's. That is a big loss vs this BYU team. The Aztecs strength is their running game. They are ranked 15th in the Country (106th passing). It could be tough sledding vs BYU and their 2nd ranked rushing defense. Only Alabama was better. The Cougars were almost as good vs the pass (13th) and they were equally good overall (3rd). San Diego St likes to open up the passing game after they they get you thinking run 1st. I don't think they will be able to do that in this game. The Cougars went to Notre Dame and had a 4th qtr lead before falling just short 17-14. This game is being played in San Diego but it is a very familiar place to a BYU program that has played in 11 Holiday Bowls in this Stadium. I think the Coogs have too much defense and enough offense to get the job done! BYU by 11
Ok, the 1st MAC team didn't work out but i still believe in this Conference as a whole. You don't have 7 teams in a Bowl game without some big out of Conference wins and many in the MAC did, including Ball St. They beat 2 teams from a BCS Conference (Indiana,So Fla.). UCF didn't beat any. They played a couple of teams and they played well but they didn't win any. Ball St is a team i liked all season with QB Wenning. Wenning was named the 2nd team All Conference QB and he should be back after missing the final regular season game to lead the Cardinals 22nd ranked offense. Ball St had 13 All Conference players on their roster this season and it was more than any other team. He has talent around him. The Ball St offense will be the highest ranked unit on the Field Friday night, ahead of the 46th ranked UCF defense. Beyond this game being played in Florida, i'm not sure why UCF is a 7 point favorite. I just don't see it. Ball St by 10
