  • Picks & Write Ups (2010-11 Bowl Games)

    BYU VS UTEP

    5* UTEP +11.5 (2:05 PM)

Both teams are (1-5) away from Home but i think this is just too many points to give the Miners here. People are talking about how BYU turned their season around and was playing great at the end of the year. Well, they won 4 straight to end the season before losing to Utah and they won those 4 by a comfortable margin. The problem is that it was against N.M./Col St/UNLV/Wyoming ..... Teams that went a combined (9-40) this season. I'm simply not impressed. Both teams score about the same (Utep 26 ppg/Byu 24 ppg) and they give up the same as well (Utep 25 ppg/Byu 21 ppg). The Miners have a solid enough running game to keep them in this and i think it will. I also like the fact that almost 60% of the public is on BYU and the line is dropping from 12.5 to 12 to 11.5. Looks like the sharp money may be going the same way we are in this one and that is usually a good thing!

Thanks Wayne, I am looking forward to your picks.

For a reference, are your plays rated 1-10?

        Good luck with the picks.

        Thanks,

The only 10* will be the GOY Robby. The rest will be 3-5 * plays.

Northern Illinois vs Fresno St (@ Boise,ID)

            5* Northern Illinois -1 (5:35 PM)

This will be a battle between 2 very good RB's in Spann for N. Illinois and Rouse for Fresno St. I love QB Harnish for the Huskies too and i think the advantage on offense has to go to N. Illinois. Spann is just a beast with almost 1,300 yards rushing and 20 TD's and he leads a Huskies rushing attack that is ranked 7th in the Country. The Huskies won 9 straight to end the season before losing to Miami Ohio in the MAC Title game. They never scored less than 28 points in any of those 9 wins and they scored 45 or more in 5 of those games. I don't see this offense being shut down in back to back games and certainly not by a Fresno defense giving up 141 ypg on the ground (50th) and 29.2 ppg (79th). The Huskies defense is 28th in ypg allowed and an impressive 16th in ppg allowed. I think the Huskies have the advantage on both sides of the ball and when you add in a weather forecast of 30-35 degrees with a 40% chance of rain or snow, i don't like backing this team from Fresno. I can promise you the weather will not bother a N. Illinois team that has played in it but Fresno? Not sure they will enjoy it or adjust well.

All due respect ILF, but I don't think it's cool to come into his thread and try and talk him off his pick. Wish him luck and bet the other way if you want. I'm sure Wayne knows what's up.

I really could care less what other teams in the mac have done in bowls the last 2 years. None of that has an effect on this game, win or lose.

I love this argument...It's exactly the reason why I hate when people spout off about their crazy system plays about x-yards and the day after New Years bull crap. Why cant people simply give the game an eye test and run some simple numbers to make an educated decision like the rest of us?

Oh right...Because if they did we wouldnt have exploitable lines

Ohio vs Troy (@ New Orleans, La.)

                          3* Troy -2 (9:05 PM)

QB Boo Jackson is looking doubtful at this point for Ohio. Backup Bates has the experience but he is a very one dimensional QB. He is a running QB all the way and Ohio will simply try to pound the ball at Troy. Based on how horrible the Troy defense has been, they should have success. With that said, it may make things a little easier on Troy too. They can focus on one thing and that is stopping the run. They faced a very good running QB this season in Dasher for Midd. Tenn St and they held him to 27 yards on 14 carries en route to a easy road victory. Last thing, Troy wanted to be here badly. After tying for the Conference Title, the New Orleans Bowl had their choice of the 2 teams and they went with Troy, a team that has played in this exact Bowl several times already. Troy is familiar with it and really wanted to be here. After Ohio blew their chance at the MAC Title late, i'm not sure they are as excited.

GL wayne. I've actually already played these three the exact same way. Was on the fence a little with the Troy/Ohio game but really feel good about the first two.
