  • Phil Steele

While Steele is clearly slumping on his cfb picks, I hardly see the need to ridicule posters who request them. Many other services are colder than Northcoast. (Check out thesportsmonitor.com)
Besides, Steele's NFL picks remain very strong. I'm not defending him, but I think it's offensive that someone who sincerely asks for picks on a forum in which we should all support each other (isn't that the point?) is mocked. Further, anyone who requests picks from Kelso Sturgeon or Doc, both cold for a decade, shouldn't pas judgment.
    Just my two cents worth.

And yes.....I played some of Steele's picks today and lost.

    • Griswold- Praise the Lord, someone else just said it!!!! Ok, I am not losing my mind. I actually posted something similiar to what you just said on another board. Are we missing somthing, what is this hang up with Northcoast? I honestly feel like I am missing something. There are so many services out there struggling, why are so many people obsessed with Northcoast. And, furthermore, if you think the service picks are stupid and a waste, please see title of thread. Why do people come into this thread only to mock it? I mean, if you are so above the services, just don't read this thread, really, because alot of people here like it. Oh, and yeah, his NFL picks have been solid, but, that doesn't count. Thanks Gris, I know now I am not losing my mind!!!

      • The only point of my remarks is to point out that Phile Steele is a slick and A+ marketeer for his newsletter and late phone service.
However, when one examines closely his actual record over time(no matter how he spins it), he is not better than about 50% of the cappers and is in fact not as good as many who post here for free.
He uses his comp. phone very effectively, blabbing for about 5 minutes and extolling the virtues of his service and games which have won easily of late
After you get by this(not me-I merely leave phone on the table and come back after 4 minutes or so for the free picks) you do a get a pretty good free comp.
Steele is honest unlike JacK Price, Stu Feiner, Johnny Demarco, true, but he still is like a broken record telling us the same thing over and over again ad nauseam about his newsletter, a big game which recently won or just about his record which he always quotes in percentages.
Phil Steele never did hear the expression "Brevity is the sole of wit."

Not to be picking a fight but
          a) Is this the appropriate thread to be belaboring the points you make.
          b) For a man that appears to extoll the virtue of brevity aren't you a bit verbose?

          • Additionally it should be noted that North Coast ended the day with an

Overall record of 5-4 for a net +2 units (excluding juice).

              • LLWM-you make somewhat of a valid point.
However, I unlike Phil am not selling anything(unless you think of my writeup about Phil as selling something).
He may have gone 5-4 but lets us not forget that the totals brought the average up, and he has not been very good in totals for the most of the season also up until today.
It would be a misrepresentation on his part to try to say he had a good day because he prides himself on his bigger plays on sides and two of three lost today.
No matter how you slice it he has had a lousy year overall in college football;season has been saved until last few weeks by NFL(last 2 weeks he has 0-5-1 and 0-6 on Monday nights).
PS Last week NC comp. plays were great;this week they are 0-5-Ok. st.,Tulsa, UCLA, Oreg. St., Air Force;it just goes to show that what goes around comes around.

                • Savage1- You made me laugh my a_s off about the comp line, yes, 5 minutes is usually the average length on those! The worst is when you get a call on the other line, you don't know what to do! Believe me, don't think I am defending his picks, they are awful in college this year. What is odd is that some weeks his comp picks are decent and the pay for picks are just awful, I really think he is overanalysing or something. Anyways, you made a nice come back and made me laugh, point well taken. Mary, I wouldn't normally clog up this thread with this stuff, but, I figured all games were done, or, every game except for Hawaii, so, that is why I posted something that wasn't actually a pick. Kind of a post day free for all is all I was thinking. Fear not, I love the service thread and don't want to mess a good thing up.
