San Antonio Spurs at Utah Jazz [9:00 PM ET]

Spurs: San Antonio continues to disappoint this year, as they are only 9-8 SU on the season. A big reason for their struggles are their road troubles, as they are a meager 1-4 SU and ATS this year. San Antonio is only averaging 90 PPG on the road this season. Despite their struggles, today represents only the 4th time in 18 games they've been an underdog. F Tim Duncan leads this team with 19 PPG and 11 RPG. One of the few bright spots this season has been the play of G George Hill. Hill is averaging 11 PPG with nearly a 2:1 assist to turnover ratio while relieving G Tony Parker. F Dejuan Blair has been another bright spot, as he's had double digit point and rebound totals in 2 of his past 3 games. San Antonio has been careless with the ball of late, having had more turnovers than their opponents in their past 4 games.

Spurs are 1-6 ATS last 7 road games.
Under is 4-0 last 4 games as an underdog.

Key Injuries - G Michael Finley (ankle) is out.

                  PROJECTED SCORE: 93

Jazz (-1.5, O/U 192.5): Utah is finally hitting their stride, winning 7 of their past 9 games SU. Utah is 8-3 ATS their past 11 games, and 7-4 ATS at home this season. This is the 2nd lowest point spread they've faced at home, with their 1st game against the Spurs being a PK. The Jazz won that game by 14 PTS. The Jazz feature 6 players that AVG double digits in PTS, with F Carlos Boozer and PG Deron Williams leading the way. This duo combine to average more than 40 PPG. Williams is 2nd in the NBA in assists with 9.9 APG. Utah averages 101 PPG while shooting 49.5% from the field, 3rd best in the NBA. The Jazz have held 7 of their past 9 opponents under 100 PTS. Of the Jazz 8 losses, 7 of them came when their opponents scored 100 PTS or more.

Jazz are 4-0 ATS last 4 games as a home favorite.
Over is 4-0 last 4 vs. team with a winning SU record.

Key Injuries - F Andrei Kirilenko (back) is questionable.
G Kyle Korver (knee) is questionable.

PROJECTED SCORE: 102 (Side of the Day)

                    Len's Top 5

Happy Monday everyone, here's my Top 5 for December 7, 2009 from Len Berman.

                    1. Quick Hits

The beat goes on. The Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints remain undefeated at 12-0.
How bad is it for the Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers? They lose at home to the lowly Oakland Raiders, their 4th straight loss.
Gentlemen start your hot stoves! The Baseball Winter Meetings begin today in Indianapolis. Expect trades and free agent signings.
In case you missed it, the Nets will not lose 'em all, and Portland center Greg Oden will not play 'em all. The Nets finally won their first game of the season, beating Charlotte Friday night. And Oden is probably out for the year with a broken kneecap. He's had nothing but injuries since being drafted #1 out of Ohio State in 2007.

                    2. Enough is Enough

Attention all of Tiger Woods' bimbos. You can all crawl back under your rocks. It doesn't matter anymore. Whether he had 2 or 12 mistresses, his image has been trashed. We now know he was a creep. And as long as infidelity is his worst crime, this is the end of the chapter. Now he has to slowly resurrect his golf career. And when he does, that's all that will matter. So it's been nice knowing you bimbos, your 15 minutes of fame are up.

                    3. Square Pegs in Round Holes

You gotta love it. 5 major college football teams finished their seasons undefeated, yet only two will play for the National Championship. (Alabama and Texas.) That leaves Cincinnati, TCU, and Boise State baying at the moon. The President has "campaigned" for a playoff, and a House subcommittee may even vote this week on a bill forcing college football to have a playoff. This is all about fairness and divvying up the almighty dollar. But I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Playoff? You want a playoff? What, and spoil all this fun?

                    4. Full Disclosure

My vote was due today. I'm one of those anonymous people who vote for the Heisman Trophy. It's been that way for years. It doesn't matter that I rarely see a college football game in person, they send me a ballot anyway. It also doesn't matter that other than Ernie Davis winning in 1961, I haven't been a huge fan of the award. (Ernie was the Syracuse running back who became the first black Heisman winner.) The Heisman goes to the "best player in college football." And that invariably means a running back or quarterback. I'm waiting for a grunt to win it..... some big slow offensive lineman. Anyway, on the theory of "what have you done for me lately" I voted for Alabama running back Mark Ingram. Obviously I'm all talk.

                    5. Check Mate

Smoking is not only bad for your health it can get you booted out of a chess tournament. Two Chinese grand masters were forced to forfeit at the World Chess Cup in Russia because they were late getting back from their smoke break. One of them was asked if he would now give up smoking? He answered after such a shock, all I really want to do is light up.

Happy Birthday: The great Larry Bird. 53.
Bonus Birthday: Actor Eli Wallach (check out his credits sometime). 94.

Today in Sports: Teddy Ballgame. The Red Sox acquire the contract of 19-year old Ted Williams. 1937.
Bonus Event: Do you really have to look? The date that will "live in infamy." The Japanese attack Pearl Harbor. 1941.

I'll be on Morning Joe tomorrow morning at 8:40am on MSNBC to discuss my New York Times best selling kids book The Greatest Moments in Sports.
