          Tips and Trends
          -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Orlando Magic at New Jersey Nets [7:35 PM ET]

Magic (-5.5, O/U 196.5): The Magic have lost three of six to drop two games behind Boston for the #2 seed in the East. Orlando was averaging 102.2 points after a 116-87 victory over Cleveland on April 3, but has scored just 86.8 points over their last four. “We’re playing awful basketball,” Coach Stan Van Gundy said. “There’s not going to be anything magical happening at the start of the playoffs. I’ve never been a big flip the switch guy. But that’s what our guys are trying to do now. If we play the way we did these last two home games, there’s not a team in the league we can win a series against."

The Favorite is 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings.
The Under is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings.

Key Injuries - G Jameer Nelson (16.7 ppg, missed the last 32 games) is OUT for the season.

PROJECTED SCORE: 99 (UNDER - Total Play of the Day)

Nets: The Nets’ last five games have come against Eastern playoff teams, and they’ve won both games at home and dropped all three on the road. Their latest setback came Friday night in Detroit, when Devin Harris scored just one point in 20 minutes before leaving with a shoulder injury in the third quarter of the 100-93 loss. Harris' status for Saturday’s game is uncertain. New Jersey will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak to the Magic. The Nets lost their last two at home in this series by an average of 17.5 points.

The Nets are 12-3-1 ATS in their last 16 vs. Eastern Conference foes.
The Under is 6-1 in the Nets' last 7 home games..

Key Injuries - G Devin Harris (21.5 ppg, 6.9 apg) is DOUBTFUL (shoulder).

          PROJECTED SCORE: 94

Toronto Blue Jays at Cleveland Indians [1:05 PM ET]

Blue Jays: (-125, O/U 8): Roy Halladay had been 5-0 lifetime against Cleveland until last season, when he lost both of his outings while giving up eight runs - five earned - over 12 2-3 innings. In his last 11 starts against Cleveland, Halladay is 5-2 with a 3.78 ERA and 1.33 WHIP. He got the win in his season debut vs. Detroit, allowing 5 earned runs on 7 hits (2 homers) in 7 innings. The Blue Jays are hitting .287 and scoring 6 runs per game so far this season, but this will be their first game against a lefty starter in '09.

            Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: 5 (Side Play of the Day)

Indians: Cliff Lee got pounded for seven runs and 10 hits in five innings in his season debut at Texas. All the runs came after the Rangers’ Hank Blalock hit a one-hopper off his forearm, but Lee refused to use that as an excuse. “It’s fine. I got it in the forearm. It’ll probably be a little sore, but it’ll be fine. I don’t think it affected my pitches,” he said. Lee is 1-3 with a 4.02 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 7 career starts vs. Toronto. Lee was fantastic against the Blue Jays last season, throwing 17 scoreless innings over two starts.

The Indians are 23-8 in Lee's last 31 starts.
The Over is 7-0-1 in Lee's last 8 starts as a home underdog.

                              Six-pack for Saturday

-- Florida's young leadoff hitter Bonifacio is hitting .579 over first four games this week-- he can really run.

-- The renovations at Kansas City's ballpark are done-- looks really nice, lot of bleachers in outfield, where the fountains used to be.

-- Anthony Kim made 11 birdies at Augusta Friday, the most ever at the Masters. He shot a 65 for his round.

-- 48-year old Kenny Perry is trying to become the oldest person to win a major golf tournament.

-- Cleveland's pitching staff is off to brutal start, giving up 42 runs in their first four games. Not good.

-- Hairston kid on San Diego had the greatest inning you'll see a guy have; he robbed Benji Molina of a game-tying HR with leaping grab over the leftcenter field fence, then hit 3-run tater in the bottom of the 8th, and all that after a rare 51-minute rain delay at Petco Park. .

Saturday's List of 13: Odds and ends on baseball salaries

                              13) Was surprised that only four Boston Red Sox are earning more than $10M this year; was more surprised that JD Drew makes $14M and is the highest-paid player on the team. Do me and my fantasy team a big favor-- save some room for Matt Holliday next year.

                              12) Bronx Bombers have nine players making $13M+ this year, with Alex Rodriguez getting paid $33M this season.

                              11) The three lowest payrolls this year: Florida $36,834,000
                              San Diego $43,734,200.........Pittsburgh $48,693,000.

                              10) Four highest payrolls: Bronx $201,449,189, Mets $149,373,987 Red Sox $121,745,999.............Detroit $115,085,145.

                              9) Overall, major league payrolls are down $47M this season.

                              8) Underpaid players: Tampa Bay's Evan Longoria, $550,000, James Shields $1.5M; Russell Martin $3.9M, Jose Reyes $6.125M.

                              7) Overpaid (or, isn't this a great country) players: Gary Sheffield, $14M, Jeff Suppan $12,750,000, Carlos Silva $12,250,000.

                              6) Travis Hafner made $11.5M LY. He knocked in 24 runs.

                              5) Colorado must have to overpay to get pitchers to come to Denver: Kevin Marquis makes $9.875M, Aaron Cook $9.375M.

                              4) Rafael Furcal turned down $40M for four years from the A's-- he is making $7.5M from the Dodgers. Go figure.

                              3) Minnesota only has five guys making more than $3M this year.

                              2) Of 27 guys listed on Oakland's roster, 17 make $420,000 or less.

                              1) Tampa Bay may be the defending AL champ, but they still have the lowest payroll in the AL East-- $63,313,034.
