The TV Contracts from ESPN & Fox are not even a 1/8 of what the NFL gets too. Most teams have deals signed with their local Sportschannel stations or something to broadcast games but the money is not what you would think. These places that never fill up will never get the money they need. The tv contracts might, might cover the 30-50 million payrolls but expenses are tremendous for travel, park employees, field maintenance and every thing else. Scouting, GM's and everything. All that stuff needs to get paid with ticket sales and when you add it all up, it is easy to see why most teams can't compete.

FUCK THE YANKEES.When they let Torre go and could have given the job to Mattingly and pretty much turned there back on him I was done with them. Now the meaning of I love the Braves and ANYBODY who plays the Yankees is my motto.

It goes without saying that if the Yankees and the "best team that money can buy" falls short next year, it will make me as happy as it would be if the Sox were to win the WS.
Also, if Sabathia, CC or Teixeira fall short of expectations for ANY reason(read into that what you want to), it will be a double blessing and serve Cashman and Steinbrenner's wannabee offspring right!

Agreed-I would applaud Obama if somehow he got some kind of legislation passed to get a salary cap with teeth to prevent the total unfairness and great disparity we see now between the rich and poor teams.

Now you want Obama to save baseball? Put Barney Frank on it, he did such a great job at Fannie and Freddie

Obama will be to busy trying to save the universe

Its up to the fans to stop supporting this crap, that is the only way.
                  NBA is a joke

Which fans do you think are going to stop supporting this stuff amd make an impact-the ones who go to and fill up Yankee Stadium or the few thousand who go to Pirates games?
I say it is time to change baseball and for someone to enact some real tough rules with teeth to bring some parity back to baseball.

I agree, It's a shame what has happened to baseball, I used to be such a hugh baseball fan but started losing interest about 10 yrs ago when the Yankee's started buy all star teams! Now I might watch 5 full games a year, I saw one World Series game the year! They have to follow what the NFL is doing cause if MLB would go under I could care less! To bad.
