Wayne-CC is a very good pitcher but struggled many times in BIG games in the AL especially against the Yankees and Sox.
Also, I wasn't referring to Pavano-how many WS did they win with Damon, ARod, Randy Johnson, Giambi and a host of other guys they obtained who were supposed to put them over the top???

Yankees have the four highest contracts now in ALL OF THE MLB. What a joke, how can anyone even watch baseball anymore? The league itself is a fucking joke. If you're a Yankee fan, don't see now what a joke this all is? Go pay 500 bucks a seat at this new stadium so your team can buy the best their is and still not win a playoff series. It's gonna come to the point where if the MLB keeps letting this happen teams like Washington and Florida and so on are just going to have to quit because they can't compete. They simply can't keep up with this ridiculous spending spree that this team throws out there.

Manny will be next. Its a shame that they spend billions upon billions but look at the Pirates and others who reap from their spending who do absolutely nothing to better their franchises.

I know of someone who had 4 tickets behind home plate last year for 200 grand and they sent him a letter saying the same seats in the new stadium will now be 800 grand for the year and he told them to go screw.

How do the Pirates make money off the Yankees? In the NFL and other salary cap league's many things are split equally but not in baseball. I don't think Pittsburgh or anyone else benefits from the YES Network besides the Yankees right?

This is just another example of what is wrong with baseball. There are about 6-8 teams that can afford to sign the top free agents every year and everyone else is fighting for the scraps. I was reading that Joe Mauer will be a free agent after 2010 and the Red Sox and Yankees already have their sights set on him. What chance do the Twins have of signing him. Baseball is a freaking joke. The reason why football became so popular is because of the salary cap. Each year every team has a legitimate shot at the playoffs. In baseball most fans lose interest in their team after the all-star break because they know their team doesn't have a chance.

Wayne, what I mean is that by the Yanks, Red Sox and others who pay the luxury taxes, the Pirates and others get money and dont do crap to better their teams. Am I wrong on this?? If I am, someone correct me please. As far as the YES network, I dont know.

They have spent eight years spending their gold as well as looking for it-bottom line-no results.
Until/if this manner of trying to obtain a championshiop works for them, I will continue to be a disbeliever.
If during baseball season, say Washington had lost eight straight games(I chose 8 because that is number of of years since Yanks have won a WS), would you be more inclined to bet on them or against them in their next game? Same thing here.

Only 2 teams had to pay a luxury tax this year. The Yankees had to pay about 24 million and the Tigers had to pay about 1 million. No other team went over the number and the Red Sox were like 5th or 6th in MLB as far as payroll goes. When you divide up 25 million to 30 teams, getting less than 1 million dollars each will do nothing for teams like Pittsburgh. They gain nothing basically.

Just shows how much I thought I knew on this. Does revenue sharing include the luxury tax or is that a whole separate issue? Thanks

Too bad, this is just another reason why baseball has become a joke, small markets get stomped on with the exceptional Minn/Colorado or Marlins type teams. I love the sport at its core...... but throw in greedy agents, steroids, ticket prices, asshole primadonnas and that is it for me.

Too bad for Nats fans, I am still an Orioles fan but would have enjoyed seeing a Baltimore metro area kid come back home to either team for less money, oh well. Gone are the days of class acts like Cal Ripken and Tony Gwynn who stayed with their team their whole career. Again, too bad.

The only thing split up that i know of is tv contracts from like ESPN and Fox. This isn't like the NFL where you can be located anywhere and get an equal cut. The Yankees own the YES Network and nobody else sees a dime of that. They are making money hand over fist with that. Boston owns NESN but it is not nearly as big as YES is. There are reasons why teams like Pittsburgh can't compete and it's because things are not divided equally like other sports. The ONLY way for those teams to succeed for a year or 2 is by their farm system and that is it.
