Sickening. And what will next year's luxury tax be? $50 mil? It's such a joke. Once again trying to buy a championship. Haven't they learned a thing in the last 10 years? I'm pissed as a Nats fan because they actually gave him basically the same offer and then of course here come the Yankees to crush that. Nats fans have nothing to cheer about and he would have been a huge bright spot for a struggling franchise searching for an identity. Fuck the Yankees and more importantly fuck the Steinbrenners.

Rumor has it that God has hired Boras as his agent, and as I write this, he(Boras) and the Yankees are on the verge of signing a contract for ?????? for the ALMIGHTY to play for the Yankees for Eternity.

As a Red Sox fan, that is really disturbing. He could have stayed in Anaheim or gone to Washington and it would have sucked but the Yankees? Wtf ...

I hear reports everywhere that the Yankees are trying to get help from the City or State to pay for the new stadium and they go out and spend a 1/2 Billion, yes Billion dollars on 3 guys? It is just mind boggling to me and if they don't win the WS next year, i don't know who will.

All I know is that when Yankees signed ARod, there was a general feeling and even panic among Red Sox fans that Yankees would return to yesteryear and win the WS every year.
The Yankees have also signed many other high priced free agents since 2000 including pitchers, and what has it got them? Nada.
Have Burnett, CC and Teixeira ever won any WS with the teams they played on?
One thing that Cashman, Steinbrenner and now his offspring have never learned that many times in baseball the sum is not the total of the parts/players andmany times is less.
Chemistry counts for something, and the Yankees of the 90's are clear proof of this.
Sure the Yankees on paper are better than before, but that doesn't necessarily translate into a WS.
ps it is interesting that Angels defeated Red Sox during regular season eight of nine games, but in playoffs with Teixeira, who did well, they still lost-go figure that one out.
As someone else pointed out/implied written checks for zillions of dollars cannot play baseball and win WS by themselves-it is the HUMAN players who receive them who must go out and do it.
Can the Yankees win the WS this year? Sure.
However, if the past eight years of failure of trying to win a WS by the method of buying allegedly the best players is any indication of the merits of these attempts, this year will be no different, and the Yankees will once more be on the outside looking in.

savage, Just because their other deals with guys like Pavano didn't work out, it doesn't mean these won't. Unlike some of their other deals, Tex and CC are horses and can't miss guys (IMO).

We should have seen this coming. The Yanks lost 77 million from last year's payroll and even after these 3 signings they still have 24 million to go to match last year.
