Congrats to Pedroia. I would have voted for Mauer, but Pedroia is a great story and had a great year.

I am really glad he won.
I like many sox fans follow the team closely. I can honestly say I would have bet my life savings on pedroia winning a batting title before an MVP. The guy is a gamer. Youk had an amazing year as well. Congrats to dustin well deserved. people will say well he had a great lineup and papi and manny batting behind him......my answer to that is well you still have to produce day in and day out and he did just that. MVP no doubt about it.2013 NCAA POD Record

All the voters were far from Red Sox fans. What's their excuse?

Without him the Sox would probably not have made the playoffs.
When you consider Ortiz was injured for a good part of the year and even when he played, did not put up his typical numbers, Pedroia's stepping up to the plate(along with Youkilis) bigtime was a huge factor in the success the team had this year.
Yes I admit I am a Sox diehard and have been one since 1952 and might be a little biased.
Also, I do feel that it is immaterial whether his stats in a relative sense were up to what some of the other MVP winners did in other years(eg Yaz in 1967);it is what he did THIS year relative to other players.
Thus, I feel the voters got it right and the margin-Pedroia for MVP.
ps Cliff Lee had a great season and was deserving of the Cy Young but MVP, no way.Last edited by savage1; 11-19-2008, 06:55 PM.

Jockey Up!!
He defintely deserves the award. He stepped up when others were hurt or had an attitude. I look at the Bosox end of the year starters, and there were several names I barely knew. Good players, but not pennant winners.
The Sox owe their post season to him. Without him, they would have had Yankee like numbers.
