sorry sox fans;my heart goes out to you..this idiot just cause you the pennant.i truly feel bad for all of you.he should be shot for not bringing embree in to pitch to matsui.

just like the cubs..8th inning,1 out and a 3 run lead and both teams lose.that is inexplicable..well a billy goat and babe ruth are the only ones who have the answers unfortunately.

Amazing how Little AND Baker both stayed with their stars too long and eventually got burned. The Red Sox especially deserved a better fate - they were in total control until Little "didn't" get involved...

      i agree art

i don't blame dusty too much really.prior got the booted double play that shoulda ended the inning.ya he stayed with him too long but still the players on the field fucked it up as much as he did.

but little quite possibly lost the pennant for his team by unbelievably not taking a tiring pedro out against matsui who had hit him pretty hard in 2 games with 2 guys who had been lights out the whole playoffs sitting in the pen.of course when he brought embree and timlin in they did the job but it was 2 batters too late.if i were a sox fan i'd be out of my mind right now at what transpired.

On the other side of that coin, IF, and I realize it's a big if, but IF Pedro gets throught that inning, he looks like a genius. I know that pen was lights out the whole series, but what was Boston's achilles all year? The pen. And ask any fan and/or player and they would want the best pitcher in the league pitching. Even a tired Pedro is effective, especially against a Yankee lineup not crushing the ball. Just gets annoying when everyone plays armchair quarterback and manager at home. It's the results that make the decision good or bad. If, if, if. Everyone has 20/20 vision out of the rearview mirror.

Pedro should have been pulled in the 7th inning. It was obvious that the Yankees were starting to hit him more easily and hard. Then in the 8th with 1 out and runners on 2nd & 3rd Pedro should have been yanked for sure then. I believe his pitch count was 115 at that time too.

It is true that Little gets ripped if he takes him out and Embree gives up the big inning, but not to the extent he is getting blasted now. You could see 3 batters earlier that Pedro needed outta there. BC is correct, and if you'll recall, Tim McCarver made mention of it. In fact, he even said during the inning that "this is where Embree has got to come in...."

This wasn't the worst decision of all time, but it was bad. It reminded me of Don Zimmer leaving Rick Sutcliffe in too long in Game 3 vs SF in the '89 playoffs. A manager has got to know his star's limitations. Pedro hadn't pitched very far all year, the Yankees were starting to measure him up, etc. It was time. Torre would not have let him start the inning.
Please don't question my record or I will leave!!!!

i respect your opinion dude but it just doesn't wash.pedro was OBVIOUSLY tired and losing it.when matsui came to the plate he had given up 5 hits to the last 7 batters he had faced!matsui had hit him well in this series and he had the lefty embree ready to do the job.that situation is EXACTLY WHY you have a bullpen in the first place.

plain and simple it was horrible managing.i respect the yankees for being such a tough team but that is one game in the last few years of their success they had no business winning.

anyways it has been an incredible week of baseball...hopefully the world series will be as good.yankees will lose though and i will cash on the marlins at +200

and actually cash easy i don't think he really gets ripped much at all if he takes him out and the pen doesn't do the job.anyone who knows baseball knows that was the right decision that had to be made.besides embree and timlin did get the job done and probably would have if they had been brought in 2 batters earlier.

Situation last night sort of reminds me of a doctor telling a patient that his xrays show a suspicious growth and that exploratory surgery should be done.
Patient can tell doctor 1) ok-lets get the surgery done,2) lets wait just a little longer or 3)I'll take my chances for the time being and do nothing.
This is obviously not a perfect analogy because it is the patient's own life in this instance and not that of the team.
However, in game last night it was evident to everyone except Pedro that he was tired in the eighth(even my 84 year old mother who ownly watched game because of its significance and because she knows I love Sox said he looked tired) and should have been removed.
Getting back to analogy it was the outcome of game which was at stake here and Grady being the manager( or "doctor" using my analogy), and the one who is paid to make decisions for the team, should have simply removed him from the game at that point as a preventive measure in the same way that any good doctor in my analogy would have told the patient to have the surgery done.
If Pedro were the patient in my first analogy, he would have the right to refuse the surgery, but since in this instance it is the future of team involved, Grady should have overruled him and removed him in the eighth.

                    my opinion was

as soon as the first runner reaches base in the 8th - PULL PEDRO

I guess I missed making my point. I didn't mean Pedro shouldn't have been pulled, I just meant that second guessing is easier after bullshit happens. Torre intentionaly walks the bases loaded in game 6 only to have the next bater walk on 4 straight balls. Right move, or wrong move? My point is the result dictates whether it was right or wrong? Right or wrong for Wells to pitch? Wrong when he gave up a first pitch homer, right now that they won. Dogfight of a series and my hat is off to both teams. They have added to the post season entertainment. Good luck all....

actually nut i woulda left him in to pitch to williams after the jeter double, but after williams hits the ball hard for the 5th hit in the last 7 batters and the situation i described above with matsui arrives there's not even a decision to be made...it was a no brainer but unfortunately grady little doesn't seem to have a brain

savage buddy you have my condolenses.as an expo fan trust me i know the feeling. :angryfire

                          My opinion

I think both managers did a bad job last night.

I don't think Torre should have let Soriano hit against Pedro for the 4th time when he had guys on base after 3 SOs and looking horrible for 2 series now and having no clue against Pedro. They had Sierra sitting on their bench. I think I could strike Soriano out right now. Just throw it 5 feet outside and he will swing.

It is game 7 I thought they need to go with their best, so I would have gone to Rivera instead of Wells especially since Ortiz is a good hitter and it really doesn't matter lefty vs lefty or righty vs lefty for him.

Grady Little had to pull Pedro once Matsui came up. He didn't have his good stuff all game even though he pitched a great game early and they started hitting the ball hard against him.

Thank god it worked out for the yanks though.

Dusty Baker had gone to a deciding game with his team for 3 or 4 straight series now and he is somewhat snake bitten which is ok because I don't like him, but last year he got ripped for not leaving Ortiz in the game so I think he was probably thinking of that when leaving Prior in. I can't really blame him for that as they don't have a Rivera type guy in their bullpen.

I agree with my ex-wife who said that Martinez and Little conspired to create their own curse by leaving Martinez in during the eighth inning;if that is true, I wonder whether that is part of the bigger curse of the Bambino.
