Ice picks: Tuesday's best NHL bets
        --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anaheim at Los Angeles (+125, 5)

A pair of 0-2 teams take to the ice tonight to finally to get in the win column. The Kings were expected to start things out 0-2 by losing a home and home series against the Sharks, so no real shock there. The Ducks on the other hand, lost to the Sharks on the road, no shock but they were outplayed badly the last two periods and then they lose to Phoenix at their home opener.

This time of year you really can’t go by current stats unless something glaring stands out. With the Sharks causing three of these teams’ four losses it makes things even tougher. The Kings have only scored once in the two games against the Sharks and only took a total of 34 shots for both games.

The Ducks are coming out of the gate slowly just like last year, but the effort is there. They have had an average of 32 shots per game, so the real problem has been in goal with JS-Giguere having a horrible .877 save percentage. Last year the Ducks won the series with a 6-2 record and the OU went 3-5. I look for a lower scoring game here, but with the Ducks taking it.

        Pick: Ducks

Columbus at San Jose (-220, 5)

Columbus is coming off a 2-1 loss at Phoenix after winning a thrilling 5-4 OT game in Dallas with seconds left. They were ripe for a letdown game in Phoenix, but you have to wonder if it was a let-down game or just the usual horrible road effort from the Jackets, who will now be without Micheal Peca after he was suspended indefinitely for bumping an official in the Dallas game.

The Sharks have a 3-0 start to the season by beating the Kings twice and the Ducks. Last year these teams hooked up for four games with the Sharks taking the series 3-1 and the OU going 1-2-1. The Jackets just don’t have the guns to hang with the Sharks. Now anything can happen on any day, but the Sharks are healthy, playing well and getting great goaltending. Don’t forget the teams they have beaten, so you might not read much into it. But take the Sharks and lay the -1.5. Because you sure don’t want to lay the -230 unless you are parlaying it or have a place to play the -1 line.

        Pick: Sharks
