Here are some other things to consider as well. Tampa is a young town with a lot of young people who pretty much care more about hanging out in Ybor or channleside than going to South St. Pete where there is NOTHING TO DO. A lot of people who do live here are from the North East. Yankee fans and Sox fans don't give a crap about the Rays. They move down here and can't let go of their team. So they are not going to go to the Trop when K.C is in town to support the Rays they only care when the Yankees and the sox's are in town. If all the Yankee fans and Sox's fan's would show up with the Rays fans when K.C is in town the place would sell out every night. Next to putting the stadium where it is, the biggest mistake they made was putting this team in the AL East imo. They thought that they could build a great rivalries with the Sox's and Yankees and in turn I think it's been biting them in the ass. And like it or not. Location, location, location!

Why keep saying there is nothing to do though buddy. Christ, the thing you are doing is seeing a MLB game for 2 1/2 - 3 hours! Lots of other places have nothing else to do around them. You are there for the game!!!!!!!!!

I don't know about you but I like to party before and after and if there is nothing to do like that I really don't want to go. Like you said it's about atmosphere and there is none at the Trop. And like I said. Yankee fans and Sox fans who live down here are just as much to blame for not going to the game when their team is not in town.

OMG ... Now somehow it's Yankee and Red Sox fans fault too? That's fucken hilarious!!!!

For the record, look at the attendance when the Sox and Yanks go there, the crowds ARE much bigger. Why? Because the Sox and Yankee fans WANT to see their team, unlike Rays fans.

and no, after the long drive there and back to fenway, my partying is all done in the 3 hours AT the game.

Being from Aurora Il and going to Wrigley was great. Take the train in an hour ride cost $3.50. get off at Union Station hop on the L another $2.00 and the L train drops you right off at the ballpark. I could (don't know if you still can) drink on the train and party all day and have time to sober up. I'm not going to drive 60 miles at 10:30 11:00 at night with a buzz and hope to avoid the cops. It's free parking if you have 4 or more people in the car. People sell out the lighting game's as well as the Buc's. The stadium is in a bad location. It's not bad from where I live but if you live north of HWY 60 it's a LONG drive. South Hillsbourgh and south pinellas county are not very populated. Unlike Wrigley where the ballpark is in a neighborhood, I'm not sure about Fenway. And what about Dodgers? Everyone shows up late there and leaves early there.
Wow...what a load of crap...while I don't doubt what you say is true, its all lame excuses. Ever been to Shea Stadium? Night Clubs? Try Auto Chop Shops, a flight pattern right over the stadium, Flushing Bay that smells like rotten eggs, traffic and parking that is a night mare...wait, they do have public transportation, you can take the always fun #7 train for 45 minutes from NYC. Ask John Rocker how that ride is! OK, it isn't an hour but what we save in time and gas, we spend on the ticket prices that are probably double...and it probably isn't $8 a beer in TB either.

I'll give you the lack of public transportation but that is a cop out to not go to a game, especially if the parking is free.

There is ZERO reason to go to a game at Shea other than to see a baseball game. MOST stadiums are not near night life. Hell, Yankee Stadium you take your life in your hands 1 block from the stadium. Real TB fans shoul dbe embarrased by the lack of support and the players should be pissed.

You are missing what I'm saying. Yankee and Sox fans are not driving from Mass. and N.Y to see their teams play down here unless it's spring and they are here on vacation. They already live here and there are a lot of them. They only care about baseball if it's their team that is playing. If Red Sox fans and Yankee fans would show up when their team was not playing (along with the Rays fans) the place would sell out everynight. But those fans don't want to go to south St.Pete either unless it's their team that is playing.

I respect your opinion and if you don't want to spend $70, I don't blame you for not going. But the cost to see a game 'all-in' (gas, tickets, parking, food, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, and beer) is a whole lot more in NY, BOS and many other cities than it is in TB. If the stadium is empty, so be it, but let's not blame the cost of gas.

South St. Pete is not life in the Hamptons either my friend.

I have been there and I agree but if you are a fan, you suck it up.

That's the thing. I'm not. I've been there when the lighting played there. Seen MJ play their against the sonics in a pre season game, and seen a few concerts their. I hate American league BB.

Bite them in the ass? A mistake to be in the AL East? You mean, if they moved them to the Central and the Yanks and Sox only came a handful of times a year, their attendance would be even worse! Let's face it, more Sox and Yanks fans go to see the Rays play than anybody and you want to take away 10 games against the teams whose fans go to see them? Their attendance numbers would be even worse!

No. They should have put them in the NL. Atlanta, Marlins. are close than Balt which is their closes rivial location wise I think. People from Nebraska don't move here. People from the Great lakes area and the North East do. As you may know the Yankees spring train here in tampa so if people want to see them they can in the spring. If they were in the NL east N.Y fans would get their N.Y team along with the teams mentioned above who are closer locaton wise.

If this stadium is in the middle of nowhere, what would Foxboro be in the middle of?

And, try going to a NASCAR race at Bristol. That's a new definition for nowhere.
I agree-I was just trying to point out my perception as a outsider.
Then again, as we were coming directly from Disneyworld, which isn't "exactly" in the middle of nowhere, perhaps my opinion wouldn't have been quite as strong if we were coming from a more normal place.
