The Sox are good but are they better than Rays? IMO No!
Well, they did go 7-0 at Fenway against TB before the two losses(and are 0-6 in Tampa).
It is just a non betting hunch on my part that they might win 2-3 there, and thats it.
All things considered, I think Sox, TB and Angels are all about equal;; honestly thou, ,if I had to choose, and considering Angels have defeated Sox 8 of 9 this year, I would prefer Sox meet Tampa in playoffs rather than Angels(not that it is any bargain or anything).

I would rather they play the CWS or Minnesota!

No question about it, but wouldn't it be virtually impossible for Sox not to have to face the Angels or Rays in one of the first two rounds?
I think what you are saying is that if Sox win the Division, they would face either the White Sox or Twins in forst round, and Angels would face the Rays, who would then be the wildcard;I agree with you here-who wouldn't at this point? sol(smiling out loud).

One down and two to go.
I sure hope Sox didn't shoot their load tonight and now go on and lose the next two games;I will be quite happy with one more win here and then of course to go on and win the division-it should be an exciting two weeks.

Well, I can't always think objectively regarding the Sox because I am too emotionally involved;it is rare I bet on or against them.
That being said, I did say after they lost 2 of 3 to Tampa in Boston, that I thought they would return the favor this week.
I would like to think they will sweep, but I will be very satisfied if they just grab one more-the Rays are tough and have the best home record in baseball.

I loved the comment last night-can't remember if it was Orsillo or Remy who made it.
They were talking about the fact that the balls were flying out last night(I think there were nine home runs), and that something must be in the air.
Whoever said it, said "yeah the air conditioning must be blowing out tonight." Now that was funny!

After the Sox blowout over the Rays on Monday, I half kiddingly said to my wife that I sure hope that Sox didn't use up all of their runs so that they would have none left for Tuesday(I said essentially the same in #34), and that tomorrow you would probably get a close game decided by one run.
Unfortunately my fears were right, and Sox lost by one run.
Obviously with the Wednesday game takes on even more added importance because of the two game swing in the standings depending on who wins.
As a Sox fan, all I can say is that if they are unable to build on the blowout on Monday, lose tomorrow(meaning that they will have goner 1-8 in games played this year in Tampa), they frankly don't deserve to finish in first place, and my hat's off to the Rays.

This is one of those myths. There's no proof suggesting teams struggle scoring after an offensive outburst. In reality they score slightly more runs after a blowout.

In games after team win scoring 13 or more runs those teams are 254-251 averaging 4.8 runs with 9.1 hits.

On average winning teams score 6.5 runs. Using 6.5 runs as a basis. Teams that won scoring 7 runs or less in their previous game score 4.7 runs with 9.1 hits in their next game.

That being said teams win slighly more after a lower scoring win. Teams are 4186-3963 or .514 after a win scoring 7 runs or less compared to .503 in blowout wins with 13 or more runs.

Thanks for posting those interesting stats. Frank.
I probably should have put more emphasis that I thought the game after the blowout would be a hard fought game decided by a run or two(exactly what happened last night, and for that matter just about all of prior the Sox/TB games played in Tampa this season).

The Rays are good! When will the media finally recognize it? It makes me chuckle. After the Rays were blown out Monday once again the so called media experts were proclaiming the Sox will finally take control of the division. Once again they were wrong.

Forget the blow outs. I'm more impressed with the two hard fought wins the Rays had vs. the Sox in the last week. A 14 inning nail biter and Tuesday's 9th inning win.

Agreed-they should be considered the co favorites with Angels to win WS(Red Sox not included because I feel they will fall in first round to Angels, which is the team they are probably going to play).

What you really mean is that will probably bite Cubs fans in the ass once again like they have been doing for the last zillion years.
At this point, I would bet the Dodgers, Phillies and probably even the Mets before I bet them to win it all.
