Percival tried to blow the 3 run lead by loading the bases, no outs. DRays coach pulled him wisely and put in Hamel. Percival was pissed but I guarantee you he blows if left in. He is washed up just like Timlin.
Theo usually makes wise decisions, and yes Timlin is a loyal player and always gives it all.
However, there comes a time when if an athlete can't admit that it is time to hang them up, the GM has to make the decision for him;I thought that time was in 2006 for Timlin.
With his age and injury prowess, I can't for the life of me understand why he is still on the team.
I would say the same if he hadn't given up the homer tonight-he looks shaky and gets hard just about every time out there whether he gives up runs or not.
I hope that Theo has the common sense to not waste a roster spot in the playoffs should the Sox get there(it looks like they will at least grab the wildcard, but nothing is certain especially with a bunch of games left with Toronto and three more in Tampa).
Taking 2 of 3 in Boston is impressive. Especially, last night's game.
Especially last nights game and I personally think ESPECIALLY the night before when they were losing coming into the 9th and hit up Papelbon for a rare blown save to win the game...unreal these Rays...
By my thinking, I am really curious to see what happens next week when Sox go to TB to play three games.
They are 0-6 there this year;prior to this trip to Fenway, the Rays hadn't in Boston all year.
The Sox if they are really good, should be able to come back and win a series in TB;remember lesser teams during second half of the season like the Yankees have taken a series in TB-if they can do it, Sox should be able to do so also.
If they win just 1, I will admit it is better than getting swept but will be disappointed.
If they get swept again, then I think all things considered Sox, are not that good and wil continue to habe road troubles in the playoffs(in spite of improving of late) and conversely that the Rays are TRULY tremendous.

Anything can happen but all things equal. If the Sox couldn't take a series at home what makes you think they'll take one in Tampa? Rays have the best home record in baseball.
The Sox are good but are they better than Rays? IMO No!
