I would agree that it would be a relevant stat if every team played each other. Its an unbalanced schedule so how can it be a measuring stick.

As for the All-Star game, you are right....it means something...but the starters pitch 2 innings, every player plays and the gae is still an exhibition game. It may mean something to 33% of the players and that is it.

NL Central is the best division in baseball, top to bottom, in my mind. NL East is not very good...equal to AL East.

I'm not disputing the AL has done extremely well vs. the NL recently. That dominance doesn't translate into a certain AL WS win.

Look at the last 3 NL WS winners. Entering the playoffs NONE were expected to win.

Hey Dufus, i posted in this thread already and i posted this ... "Anaheim". Where is my homeritis in that Mr. N.L. Apologist?

I would rate the NL Central 4th and behind all three divisions in the AL-the biggest frauds of all are the Brewers-the last 4 days speak volumes. I thought they weren't really very good when they played the Red Sox and the series with Cubs confirms my gut feelings.
They are around 8-1 to win WS-talk about value-ha-I wouldn't take these guys at 8 to 1 even make the playoffs let alone win the WS.
Also, your analogy about regular season not meaning anything in NBA because West finished 65 games or whatever you said above 500 against the East.
The difference is that Celts had a WINNING record against the East, had best record in league and proved twice during regular season (2 of 2) that they could beat the Lakers.
And the dumb linemaker in spite of that made Celts nearly 2-1 underdogs!
ps Again before you or anyone comes back with me about Red Sox of late, while I don't consider them to be the total frauds that the Brewers are(I think Brewers would be a 500 team in the AL a best if they played an AL East), their perfromance leads me to believe that unless Jason Bay is the Second Coming(I do like the guy), I wouldn't rate the Sox's chances of wining the WS this year any better than around 8-1.

Nothing is certain except life, death and taxes;I just happen to think that some of the stats and trends I cited have at least some relevance to the issue.

The best team in the NATIONAL LEAGUE-this is true!
ps The Brewers should be rated at best at about 25-1 to win the WS.

                  • Wow-look at those Angels-crushing the Yankees-no letdown from sweep at Fenway.
I am sure glad I plunked down some more today on them at +4.5 to win at all.

Well Jacob is the most common male's name in choosing the name of babies these days, and Jacoby has a nicer sound to it and makes it a bit different
I think though that in all fairness I will ask my wife if perhaps we should change the first name to kbsooner in honor of the "outstanding" and "wise" poster at bettorschat.

                        • I have changed my thinking a bit, and here is my order:
                          1) Angels
                          2) Tampa Bay
                          3) Hold on to you hats-Mets-yeah an NL team because I think they are better than Cubs who may have peaked-I don't give anyone else in the NL much of a chance(other than Cubs).
                          4) Red Sox-I don't believe they can defeat the Angels this season, whom they will probably have to play in first round.
                          5) Cubs-Actually I rate the Cubs and Sox about even;if I knew for a fact that Sox would defeat Angels, then Sox would go to #1.

Mets relief pitching is terrible. They lose too many games they should win. You can't do that in a short series.

I just like the way they have been playing of late and their new and better attitude under the new management.
I agree that relief pitching is so important in a short series and could be their undoing.
How do you rate the teams at this time re: who is going to win WS?

                                2. D'Backs (Webb, Haren, Johnson is dangerous in a series)
                                3. Cubs
                                4. Tampa
                                5. White Sox
