Los Angeles Lakers at Boston Celtics [ABC | 9 PM ET]

Lakers (-1, O/U 190.5):NBA MVP Kobe Bryant continued his struggles against the Boston defense in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, making just 9-of-26 shots from the field in scoring 24 points. Bryant has now made only 33 percent of his shots in three meetings with the Celtics (24-of-72). The Lakers also struggled as a team shooting from beyond the 3-point arc, hitting 3-of-14. Bryant's ability to drive to the hoop and draw double teams enables his teammates to get open for 3-point attempts, and he settled himself for perimeter shots too much. Insiders expect Bryant to be a lot more aggressive going to the basket in Game 2, especially with Boston's Kendrick Perkins suffering from an ankle injury. This should result in more open shots for teammates and free throws.

Lakers are 12-5-1 ATS in their last 18 games overall.
The UNDER is 7-2 in LA's last 9 road games.
The UNDER is 7-1 in LA's last 8 games as an underdog.

                  Key Injuries - NONE

                  PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Celtics: Boston leading scorer Paul Pierce feels blessed that he was able to return in the third quarter of Game 1 after suffering what looked to be a serious knee injury, which ended up being a turning point for his team. The Celtics rallied behind Pierce's departure when he had to be carried out of the game and then fed off the energy created by his return en route to the victory. “The thing about it, a lot of it was going through my mind, and I was like, man, it can’t be over like this," Pierce said. "You know, I think God just sent this angel down and said, ‘Hey, you’re going to be all right. You need to get back out there. Show them what you’ve got.’”

Celtics are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games vs. Pacific Division.
Celtics are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Sunday games.
Celtics are 13-5 ATS in their last 18 home games.

Key Injuries - F Paul Pierce (19.6 ppg; knee) is questionable.
G Tony Allen (6.6 ppg; Achilles') is doubtful.

                  PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

                    NBA Finals Gameday

The Celtics made a triumphant return to the NBA Finals on Thursday night, and they'll be looking for continued success when they take on the Lakers once again on Sunday.

Boston handled Los Angeles in Game 1 of the championship series 98-88 on Thursday, but the topsy-turvy contest looked like it might go the other way at the break. The Lakers outscored the Celtics 30-23 in the second quarter to enter halftime with a 51-46 advantage. However, Boston had regained the lead by the end of the third quarter, and they held Los Angeles to only 15 fourth-quarter points en route to a 1-0 lead in the set.

Each of Boston's Big Three turned in solid performances in their Game 1 win. Kevin Garnett scored a team-high 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while Ray Allen contributed 19 points to go along with eight boards and five assists. Paul Pierce picked up 22 points for Boston in the win despite briefly leaving the contest with a knee injury.

Rajon Rondo went just 4-of-10 from the field for the Celtics on Thursday, but he was still good for 15 points and seven assists in the game. Kendrick Perkins had just one point.

Kobe Bryant poured in 24 points to lead the way for the Lakers, but he went just 9-for-26 from the field (and 0-for-3 from three-point range). Bryant also dished out six assists on the night. Derek Fisher and Pau Gasol each tossed in 15 points in the defeat (with Gasol grabbing a team-high eight rebounds), while Lamar Odom contributed 14 points.

The Lakers will now be looking to crack the tough Celtics defense and grab a road victory in Game 2 on Sunday night (tip-off is 9:00pm ET) to even up the series at 1-1. The oddsmakers, though, think the Celtics will have the advantage once again, as they opened as 2-point home favorites for Sunday. The game's total opened at 190. Boston opened as a +141 underdog to win the series, but that will improve if they win Game 2.

The Celtics are now actually 3-0 against the Lakers this year - they also beat Los Angeles twice during the regular season. In fact, the Lakers have been held under 95 points in all three of their matchups with the Celtics - Boston won 107-94 and 110-91 back in November and December. Betting on Boston against Los Angeles has also been lucrative - the Celtics are 3-0 ATS against the Lakers (with the OU record at 1-2).

The last time the Lakers beat the Celtics in Boston was back on January 31, 2007, when they scored a 111-98 road victory. Los Angeles beat Boston in both of their meetings during the 06/07 campaign, but of course Kevin Garnett was not on the team.

Celtics guard Tony Allen returned from his achilles injury in Game 1, but he didn't see any time on the floor. Perkins sprained his ankle on Thursday and missed the fourth quarter. The bigger concern, though, is Pierce, who suffered a sprained knee. Pierce was able to return and finish Thursday's game, but he could be limited on Sunday night.

Game 3 of this best-of-seven series will be played in Los Angeles on Tuesday night, with Games 4 and 5 also on the west coast (on Thursday and Sunday). Boston would then get to host Games 6 and 7 if necessary (with those games set for the following Tuesday and Thursday). All games in the NBA Finals will get underway at 9:00pm ET.

Kansas City Royals at New York Yankees [YES | 1:05 PM ET]

Royals: Zack Greinke has stumbled in his last three outings after starting the season on fire. In his last three starts (0-2) Greinke has given up 17 runs in 19 innings pitched. Due to his poor performances of late, three of Greinke's last four starts have gone over the total. Greinke faced the Yankees earlier in the season and pitched a gem, shutting out the Bombers in eight innings on the mound.

                      Key Injuries - NONE

                      PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Yankees (-170, O/U 9): Joba Chamberlain's first start didn't go exactly how the Yankees had hoped. With a pitch count of 65, Chamberlain set himself up for a short outing by throwing 38 pitches in the first inning versus Toronto. Chamberlain lasted just 2.1 innings, walking four batters and allowing two runs. Chamberlain is hoping for a better performance today against the offensively inept Royals. As a relief pitcher Chamberlain never allowed a run in 3.1 innings of work against Kansas City.

                      Key Injuries - NONE

                      PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Seattle Mariners at Boston Red Sox [NESN | 1:35 PM ET]

Mariners: Jarrod Washburn has been a disaster this season and he's probably a poor outing away from heading back to the bullpen. After a brief stint in the pen, Washburn returned to the starting rotation but the results have been the same. After pitching well against the Yankees, Washburn gave up nine hits and four runs in 5.1 innings against the Angels. Washburn has been torched on the road this season, going 1-4 with a 6.82 ERA. Five of Washburn's last six starts have gone OVER the total.

Mariners are 8-23 in their last 31 road games.
The OVER is 10-4 in Seattle's last 14 games as an underdog.

                      Key Injuries - NONE

                      PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Red Sox (-130, O/U 9): Justin Masterson continues to be a revelation for Boston, going 2-0 with a 2.95 ERA in three starts this season. After allowing just one run in his first two starts, Masterson allowed a season high four runs in his most recent outing against Tampa, although he did get the win thanks to the Sox scoring seven runs. All of Masterson's starts have taken place at Fenway Park, with two of those going over the total.

Red Sox are 17-6 in the last 23 meetings at Boston.
Red Sox are 43-13 in their last 56 home games.

Key Injuries - OF Jacoby Ellsbury (.287; wrist) is questionable.

                      PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Milwaukee Brewers at Colorado Rockies [3:05 PM ET]

Brewers: You can pretty much set your watch to Jeff Suppan. He's been unhittable at home and awful on the road. Unfortunately for the Brewers, Suppan is on the road tonight, where he's 1-4 with a 6.27 ERA. Suppan has owned the Rockies over his career, going 5-1 with a 3.58 ERA in eight starts. Even though he has a high road ERA, Suppan's last three starts away from home have all gone UNDER the total.

                      Key Injuries - NONE

                      PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Rockies (-125, O/U 9.5): Jeff Francis is having a tough season to date but he's coming off one of his best performances, shutting out the Dodgers in LA over seven innings. Francis was tough at Coors Field in 2007 but that hasn't been the case this season, where he's 1-3 with an ERA of 6.00. Somehow Francis is 2-2 in his career against the Brewers, despite sporting a ridiculous 8.71 ERA.

                      Key Injuries - NONE

                      PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Chicago Cubs at Los Angeles Dodgers [ESPN | 8:05 PM ET]

Cubs: When Jason Marquis takes the hill for the Cubs, they know they'll need to score some runs, and that's usually what happens. Marquis rarely goes past the fifth inning, which means the Cubs bullpen also needs to perform well today. In the last four games Chicago won with Marquis on the mound, the team has averaged eight runs. Marquis has performed well against the Dodgers in his career, going 2-1 with a stellar ERA of 2.25.

Cubs are 10-1 in their last 11 games overall.
Cubs are 2-6 in their last 8 games as an underdog.

                      Key Injuries - NONE

                      PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Dodgers (-120, O/U 8.5): Brad Penny is in a funk right now, losing five of his last six starts, with the other being a no decision. Over that span, Penny has given up an unacceptable 32 runs in 33.2 innings pitched. Penny hasn't had a home field advantage this season, going 3-4 with a 5.14 ERA at Dodger Stadium. The good news is Penny has been successful against the Cubs over his career with a 2.42 ERA in eight starts.

The UNDER is 8-2 in LA's last 10 games as a favorite.
The UNDER is 7-2 in LA's last 9 home games.

                      Key Injuries - NONE

                        Chicago at Los Angeles

The scorching hot Chicago Cubs travel cross-country to take on the not so red hot Los Angeles Dodgers in this week's Sunday Night ESPN Game of the Week.

These two teams were headed in opposite directions coming into this series, which started on Thursday. Chicago had won 10 of their previous 11 games while L.A. had lost 11 of 14 entering Friday's second game of the series.

The Dodgers should have a measure of revenge fresh in their minds as they were recently swept in a three-game series at Wrigley Field (May 26th - May 28th). Despite scoring only eight runs in the entire series, the Cubs won every game. That's because Los Angeles was only able to muster three total runs in the series.

The Dodgers had plenty of opportunities to put runs on the board but they were extremely inefficient at the plate. In fact, they had a total of 37 base runners during the three-game stand and were only able to plate three of them.

Despite the fact they won all three games, the Cubs had two fewer base runners during the series (35) and still pulled off the sweep. Because of both team's struggles with runners in scoring position during the series, all three games fell under the total. However, it wasn't due to lack of base runners.

The two pitchers slated to take the mound Sunday night have both had their ups, but more there have been many more downs 2008.

Jason Marquis takes the hill for the visiting Cubs sporting an ERA of 5.02. That's actually common ground for Marquis, whose ERA has been above 4.00 in six of his last eight seasons and his career ERA is 4.58. He has been a bit more efficient on the road this year where his ERA is 4.88.

One of the main problems with Marquis is he eats up the arms in the bullpen because he does not go deep into games. He's only made it past the sixth inning once in his 11 starts. He almost never gets his pitch count above 100 (just once this year at 102) so in games he starts, the Cubs rely heavily on their bullpen.

Keep an eye on the Chicago bullpen situation in the games leading up to Sunday night as it could affect this game more than most.

The Dodgers send Brad Penny out in hopes his "bleeding" stopped during his last start which was one of his best of the season. Big things were expected of Penny in 2008 after winning a combined 32 games his last two seasons with the Dodgers.

Things have not gone as planned, however as Penny has been a big disappointment thus far. If the season ended today, his 5.45 ERA would be the highest of his career. After a pretty good start to the season, Penny had a disastrous month of May. His ERA last month was a whopping 8.82 and he allowed an alarming 60 base runners in only 32.2 innings pitched.

A potential positive note was his last start where he allowed two earned runs in six innings and got the win over Colorado. However, Penny did allow 10 Rockies players to reach base in those six innings so that might still be a concern.

Can Chicago continue their onslaught and build a bigger lead in the NL Central or will the Dodgers get their season headed in the direction they fell it should be?
