6 Million Wagered On Big Brown

If you watch the replay, it is apparent the riders of Tale of Ekati and Anak Nakal tried to box Big Brown in on the rail.

Desormeaux, aboard Big Brown, wanted none of it so he violently jerked his horse around them going into turn one. Coa, aboard Tale of Ekati, as Frank says then forced Big Brown even wider. He was ludicrously wide the whole trip.

In Desormeaux's defense, he felt he had the best horse and was determined not to let himself get cuaght in a trap.

In criticism of Desormeaux, he and Dutrow were so arrogant about Big Brown's superiority they thought he could be 15-wide and still wip the other horses.

Not to make anyone mad here, but Dutrow is a slime and his owner is worse and I'm glad they lost.

WOW! You are the first person to mention what I noticed while watching the race. Tale of Etaki took Big Brown very wide. The viewer couldn't notice during the normal angle they showed during the race. However, as the horses made the turn from the first turn to the backstretch ABC briefly showed a different angle. Etaki was about 5 feet further out, running about 5 wide, from Da'Tara the entire first turn. Big Brown ran a significant more distance than Da'Tara.

Below is the YouTube link for the race. When the video time is at 1:09 note how wide Etaki and Big Brown are running. I believe Etaki's jockey, Eibar Coa, sacrificed his racehorse to defeat Big Brown.

no doubt about it my dad the day before race was talkin bout the race said they were gonna send big brown over the rail from the one post.. i was laughin then i was watchin race w. him and kinda the opposite but same concept they rode big brown very wide, bout 5 wide the entire race when normally he would been in tight w. tale of ekati and da'tara...coa cost himself a chance and even in the turn late still kept pushin big brown out he wasnt gonna let him get a clean run

I'm absolutely amazed that not ONE single horse racing 'expert', announcer, sports anchor, reporter, sports article, Kent Desormeaux, Dutrow etc noticed or mentioned Big Brown's wide trip.

Compare the race fractions to that of Secretariats Belmont. They were significantly slower. A slow pace favors the horse on the lead. Da'Tara basically galloped the first half of the race.

Not to make anyone mad here, but Dutrow is a slime and his owner is worse and I'm glad they lost. i agree totally griswold- the phrase it could not have happened to a nicer more deserving trainer, if bbrown had won would not have applied, i loved the look on his face when he was too upset to do interviews. i would much rather see a bob baffert, b.tagg or shugmcgaughey type get a trpile crown, not some drugged up no moral having guy like this. the best isto make himself look good he was telling anyone who would listen about not using the steroids or holding back the vitamin bucket. so if the horse had won hed come out smelling like a rose. who knows what he did to the horse that hes not saying. he made the race all about him, with his arrogant predictions, as for the money wagered ,alot of people put 2 bucks to win as a souvenier just for the ticket. but alot did get suckered, gc-
