one thing is for sure-the horse that won today brought his A GAME,look at a racing form and see if you could have bet this horse, thats why this sport is so tough and why i bet small on the ponies most of the time !!

1st,of the 6 million bet on Big Brown the house only gets 8-12 % of that from the win pool. The rest is devided equally to the amopungs the # of winning tickets there are. That's how the odds are determained, by the number of possible winning tickets.

2nd in a situation like yesturday people bet $2 to win on BB just so they can say they bet the Triple Crown winner and there is no inention of cashing it.

3rd. People who like to bet favs like that (odds on) are known as "Bridge Jumpers" They bet a large amount in the show pool b/c they will get the same amount whether the horse wins or loses. You see it all the time. This is great b/c if the 1-2, 1-4, 1-5, 1-9 shot finishes out of the money. It creates a neg show pool for the rest of the horses were the show pool pays sometimes more than the win pool.

Ps there was $11,000,000 bet in the exacta pool in that race yesturday. The exacta paid about $650, after the $2.2 million the track takes out. There was only about 11,000 winning $2 tickets.
              Good Luck to everyone

                Great post by meaiken.

I was at an off track facility yesterday and I was the only guy cheering down the stretch. I had a bunch of wagers but a $1 saver exacta box with Denis of Cork and the field so I'm yelling for him to hold on for second (I never would have had the winner without a wheel). I was the ONLY person making a sound.

After the race was over, you could have heard a pin drop. Then, amid all the quiet one very large guy starts bellering: "MOTHERFUCKER! MOTHERFUCKER! WHERE IS THE MOTHERFUCKING 1?"

A lot of sheep walked over the mountain yesterday with Big Brown thinking at 1-4 he "can't" lose.

I was at the window placing a bet for the 12th race, a guy was trying to figure out how much he won. He had a $20 exacta box 1-4-6. Lucky Mo Fo.

My buddy had the 6, he mentioned him to me be4 the race. Unfortuantly, he had him under other horses and not on top. If yu look (of course you can see it now) the 1-5-6 had the top 3 Equibase speed figures (I use those rather than byers). I still through out the 6.
                  Good Luck to everyone

No Vegas did not make a killing at the track. The track didn't make a killing. Horse racing uses parimutuel wagering. Meaning all the money less the state tax goes into the pool and is disbursed back to the winners.

                        This thread is amusing
Grandpa the ignorance in this thread is amazing. It's obvious some members have no idea of the betting concept of parimutuel wagering which horse racing employs.

WOW! You are the first person to mention what I noticed while watching the race. Tale of Etaki took Big Brown very wide. The viewer couldn't notice during the normal angle they showed during the race. However, as the horses made the turn from the first turn to the backstretch ABC briefly showed a different angle. Etaki was about 5 feet further out, running about 5 wide, from Da'Tara the entire first turn. Big Brown ran a significant more distance than Da'Tara.

Below is the YouTube link for the race. When the video time is at 1:09 note how wide Etaki and Big Brown are running. I believe Etaki's jockey, Eibar Coa, sacrificed his racehorse to defeat Big Brown.
