Hot Lines: Sunday's best MLB bets
          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

          Arizona at Atlanta (-115, 9)

The Braves still have something going on at home after Jeff Francoeur's walk-off homer on Saturday pushed them to 7-2 on their current home stand and major-league best 21-6 at home on the year.

Meanwhile, Arizona is finally cooling down a bit after a blistering start. The D'Backs have dropped five of their last seven, narrowing their lead in the NL West to just 3 1/2 games. Arizona's slumping offense is most of the problem having produced more than two runs in just a pair of those seven games.

          Pick: Atlanta

          N.Y. Mets at Colorado (-110, 9 1/2)

It doesn't seem like the Mets have much time to waste to save manager Willie Randolph's job. Team owner Omar Minaya is with the team in Colorado, leading to speculation that Randolph's days are numbered.

However, the Mets got Randolph a win on Saturday to snap a five-game skid and send John Maine to the hill today, so maybe they're getting on the right track.

          Pick: New York

                  Saturday

-Justin Duchscherer, Athletics, brought a no-hitter into the seventh inning before allowing a single to the Red Sox's David Oritz. Duchscherer ended up giving up only that hit in eight innings of the Athletics' 3-0 win over Boston.

-Jeff Francoeur, Braves, hit a game-ending, two-run homer off Chad Qualls in the ninth inning, and the Braves overcame a sparkling 10-strikeout performance by Randy Johnson to beat Arizona 3-1.

                  OUTSTANDING FINISH

Doug Brocail is the oldest player on the Houston Astros roster. He felt like a kid again when Darin Erstad and Brad Ausmus turned a remarkable double play to end Houston's 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night. The Phillies loaded the bases off Brocail with one out in the ninth inning. Shane Victorino flew out to Erstad in left and Erstad threw a perfect throw to Ausmus, the Astros catcher, who tagged out Pedro Feliz at the plate.

                  BIG 'K'

Randy Johnson reached double-digits in strikeouts for the first time since May 20 last year against Pittsburgh and the 210th time overall, five behind Nolan Ryan's record for games with 10 or more strikeouts. The Big Unit struck out 10 in Arizona's 3-1 loss to Atlanta. With 4,663 strikeouts, Johnson needs nine to tie Roger Clemens for second place behind Ryan (5,714).

                  REHABBING

Atlanta Braves right-hander John Smoltz reported no discomfort in his right shoulder after allowing one hit in one inning on a rehab assignment with the Double-A Mississippi Braves. He threw 12 pitches, eight for strikes, in the eighth inning against the Tennessee Smokies. Smoltz is expected to return to Atlanta on Sunday and the Braves will decide whether to schedule another rehab assignment or activate him.

                  STELLAR DEBUT

Nick Evans became the first player to get three extra-base hits in his debut with the Mets since Kaz Matsui on April 6, 2004, in Atlanta. Evans finished 3-for-4 before being lifted in the eighth as part of a double switch. "It's been a blur,'' he said of his debut.

                  SIDELINED

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed center fielder Andruw Jones on the 15-day disabled list Saturday because of an injured right knee that will require surgery and sideline him at least 4 to 6 weeks. Jones, who signed a two-year, $36.2 million contract last winter after 12 good seasons with the Atlanta Braves, has struggled in Los Angeles. The five-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glove winner is hitting .165 with two homers and seven RBIs in 43 games.

                  SPEAKING

"I said, 'Those guys don't want none of me today 'cuz I'm going to pull a Lester on 'em. In the sixth inning, I was thinking, 'Did I really say that before the game?''' - Justin Duchscherer after allowing just one hit in eight innings to the Red Sox. He brought a no-hitter into the seventh inning before giving up a single to David Ortiz with one out.
