Pick 'n' Roll: Saturday's best NBA bets
            ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

            Detroit at Orlando (-5, 187)

Things look bad for the Pistons as they prepare for another tough game in Orlando after taking a beating in Game 3 and losing their point guard in the process. Detroit didn't look like the same team that dominated in Detroit as they fell 111-86 to the Magic mainly because point guard Chauncey Billups left the game less than four minutes in with a strained hamstring.

That allowed Jameer Nelson to take the kind of role he did in the Magic's series against Toronto when the brawny point guard muscled his way into the heart of the defense and opened up shots for teammates on the perimeter. It's no coincidence Rashard Lewis had his best game, scoring 33 points and going 5-of-6 from three point range as Billups sat in on the sideline.

And from the sounds of things, it would be a minor miracle if Billups was back for Game 4. Without him, the Pistons will have to use either rookie Rodney Stuckey or Lindsey Hunter, neither of which can equal the physical presence or clutch shooting Billups brings to the position. This injury is the worst thing that could have happened to the Pistons at this point and it may cost them the lead in this series.

            Pick: Magic

            Boston at Cleveland (-1, 176)

Even though everyone else on the planet is writing off LeBron James and the Cavaliers, it would be foolish to believe that a guy who was up for MVP consideration this year is capable of continuing such a terrible shooting slump. LeBron is missing jumpers, layups, almost every shot he's attempted managed bounce out of the basket somehow.

But don't forget that every time these teams faced each other this season, the home team has won. The Cavaliers get a chance to climb back into this series with a game in their own barn, where they are 29-15 this year – and LeBron gets a chance to win back his reputation as a clutch performer.

            Pick: Cavaliers

              Dallas at Detroit (-215, 5)

It's tough to swallow this much chalk when we're so deep into the playoffs, but as we saw on Thursday night, Detroit is just too good for Dallas. Some people might want to make excuses for the Stars, claiming their quadruple-overtime Game 6 against San Jose was to blame, but even Dallas captain Brenden Morrow isn't buying that one.

"We've had three days to recharge," Morrow told reporters after the Game 1 loss, "I don't think we can use that quadruple overtime as an excuse. Maybe mentally there was [some residual hangover], but physically, I think we all felt pretty good."

The blame should more rightly be placed on the Dallas defensemen, who were unwilling or unable to remove Johan Franzen and other Detroit forwards from in front of Marty Turco. The Stars won their previous series mainly because of their grit, but judging by their performance against the Red Wings so far, that won't be a viable strategy in this series.

Essentially, the Game 1 result was a combination of Dallas coming out flat, Detroit playing extremely tough and sharp, and maybe a few favorable calls for the home team. In order for Dallas to reverse that in Game 2, as Brad Richards put it, "We have to be better in everything."

That's a pretty tall order for a team that is 2-8 against Detroit over the last two seasons.

              Pick: Red Wings

Hot Lines: Saturday's best MLB bets
                    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                    Toronto at Cleveland (-120, 8)

The Blue Jays can add Vernon Wells to their growing list of injured players. They were already playing without David Eckstein and John McDonald but Wells' absence will sting a little bit more because the center fielder was one of very few Blue Jays producing at the plate. Wells had an eight-game hit streak working and without him, the Jays' .254 team batting average will probably dip even lower.

However, the Tribe have been even worse at the dish if you can believe that. As a club, they're hitting .240 this season and with hitting like that, it's not surprising that eight of their last 10 games have played under.

With all that and two pitchers who have a combined over/under record of 0-6, it's a good bet that trend will continue today.

                    Pick: Under

Philadelphia at San Francisco (-125, 8)

At 21-14 the Phillies were doing fine without Jimmy Rollins, but now that they have the reigning NL MVP back, watch out. Rollins came off the DL yesterday and came up with some big hits, going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs in the 7-4 win. Add that kind of production to a lineup that already includes Chase Utley and Pat Burrell hitting over .300 and slugging better than .600 and you’ve got a major problem for opposing pitchers.

Today that unfortunate pitcher will be the brilliant, young right-hander, Tim Lincecum, who is capable of handling himself against almost any lineup, but as good as he is, he has failed to get a win in three starts against the Phillies and has a 6.07 ERA in those games.

                    Pick: Phillies

Arizona Diamondbacks at Chicago Cubs [FOX | 3:40 PM ET]

Diamondbacks: Heralded rookie Max Scherzer will look to bounce back from a rough first start in the majors against the Phillies on Monday. Arizona's first-round pick in the 2006 draft gave up 5 runs and 8 hits in 4 innings of work to take the loss, striking out 5 and walking 2. Scherzer had retired all 13 batters he faced in his major-league debut against the Astros on April 29th, pitching 4 1/3 scoreless innings of relief with no walks and 7 strikeouts.

Diamondbacks are 8-1 in their last 9 games following a loss.
Diamondbacks are 6-3 in their last 9 games as an underdog.
Diamondbacks are 8-4 in their last 12 road games.

                      Key Injuries - NONE

                      PROJECTED SCORE: 4

Cubs (-130, O/U 8.5): Chicago's Ryan Dempster will look to overcome a rough history against the Diamondbacks on Saturday. Dempster is just 1-4 lifetime against them with a 6.04 ERA. He is coming off a tough outing at Cincinnati on Monday, allowing 5 unearned runs in a 5-3 loss. The veteran right-hander has earned all 4 of his wins at the friendly confines of Wrigley Field despite a 4.30 ERA.

Cubs are 11-3 in their last 14 home games.
The UNDER is 8-1 in the last 9 meetings.

                      Key Injuries - NONE

New York Yankees at Detroit Tigers [FOX | 3:40 PM ET]

Yankees: Darrell Rasner gets the start for the pitching-starved Yankees. Rasner has only 1 start on the season and it was a productive one. He gave up just 5 hits and 2 runs over 6 innings in an 8-2 win against Seattle. Rasner has 1 relief appearance in his career against Detroit, giving up only a single hit in 1 2/3 innings of work

Yankees are 1-7 in their last 8 games at Detroit.
The UNDER is 25-10-1 in New York's last 36 games overall.

                      Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: 6 (Side Play of the Day)

Tigers (-130, O/U 9.5): Although he's 2-3, Jeremy Bonderman has been one of the Tigers more consistent pitchers this season. When Bonderman has gotten into trouble, it's been because he's put too many runners on the base paths. In 41 innings pitched, Bonderman has walked 25 batters, while striking out 22. Bonderman hasn't had much success against the Yankees, going 3-6 with a 5.21 ERA in 10 starts.

Tigers are 2-7 in Bonderman's last 9 home starts.
Tigers are 2-6 in their last 8 games overall.
The UNDER is 6-2-2 in Bonderman's last 10 starts on grass.

                      Key Injuries - NONE

                      PROJECTED SCORE: 4

St. Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers [FOX | 3:40 PM ET]

Cardinals: Joel Pineiro has been solid in 2 of his last 3 starts. In wins over Cincinnati and Pittsburgh, Pineiro only gave up 1 run in 14 innings of work. However, Pineiro struggled in his last outing against the Rockies, giving up 8 hits and 4 runs in 3 innings. Pineiro is less effective on the road, where his ERA is a lofty 6.59 this season.

Cardinals are 6-2 in their lasst 8 Saturday games.
Cardinals are 10-5 in the last 15 meetings.

                      Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: 4 (OVER - Total Play of the Day)

Brewers (-165, O/U 8.5): Ben Sheets is an impressive 4-0 on the season but his worst 2 performances have been his most recent outings against the Astros and Cubs. Sheets has given up 8 runs in his last 11 1/3 innings but has been bailed out by strong run support. Another concern is 7 of Sheets' 11 walks on the year have come in his last 2 games. This will be a rare home appearance for Sheets, with 5 of his first 6 starts coming on the road.

Brewers are 1-6 in their last 7 games overall.
Brewers are 1-7 in Sheets' last 8 starts vs. St. Louis.
The UNDER is 7-2 in Milwaukee's last 9 games as a favorite.

Detroit Pistons at Orlando Magic [ESPN | 5 PM ET]

Pistons: Detroit is confident rookie Rodney Stuckey can get the job done against Orlando's Jameer Nelson if starting point guard Chauncey Billups can't go in Game 4 or is limited due to his hamstring injury. "That matchup has been huge for us," Pistons head coach Flip Saunders said. "Even Stuck came in and played well in that matchup. It's probably best that we have a couple of days for him to get some rest, see where he's at and also have another plan in case he doesn't play, so that our guys have a comfort level." Stuckey scored 19 points in Game 3.

Pistons are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 road games.
The UNDER is 9-2 in Detroit's last 11 road games.

Key Injuries - PG Chauncey Billups (17 ppg; hamstring) is listed as questionable.

                        PROJECTED SCORE: 91

Magic (-5, O/U 187): Orlando got exactly what it needed in Game 3, sinking 11-of-24 shots from beyond the 3-point arc and holding a 41-35 rebounding edge. The Magic will need to carry that momentum into Game 4 and could use another monster effort from Rashard Lewis, who scored a season-high 33 points. Lewis presents a tough matchup for Detroit's Tayshaun Prince, especially if Billups does not play. When Prince needs to step up offensively, his defense tends to suffer a bit.

Magic are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games vs. Central Division.
The UNDER is 6-2 in Orlando's last 8 games vs. Central Division.

                        Key Injuries - NONE

Boston Celtics at Cleveland Cavaliers [ABC | 8 PM ET]

Celtics: Boston can't possibly do a better job containing Cavs star LeBron James, who has made just 8-of-42 shots (19 percent) in the series so far. The Celtics also put together a much better offensive performance in Game 2, with Paul Pierce scoring a game-high 19 points and Ray Allen adding 16 - all in the second half - after going scoreless in Game 1. "Just a better overall effort," Boston head coach Doc Rivers said in comparing Game 2 to Game 1. "I thought the defense was pretty much the same, pretty solid. I thought the offense was terrific in spurts."

Underdog is 7-1-1 ATS in the last 9 meetings.
The UNDER is 16-5 in Boston's last 21 games vs. Central Division.

                        Key Injuries - NONE

                        PROJECTED SCORE: 87

Cavs (-2, O/U 176.5): Cleveland trailed Detroit in last year's Eastern Conference Finals, losing 2 games just about as ugly as the first 2 games of this series. The Cavs scored just 76 points in each of the first 2 games at Detroit last year before rebounding nicely at home. "We found a way to win Game 3 last year," James said. "Home court has been good for us this year. That's how we'll approach it." The Celtics are 0-3 SU & ATS on the road so far in the playoffs and will face a more hostile environment here in Cleveland than in Atlanta.

The UNDER is 7-1 in Cleveland's last 8 Saturday games.
The UNDER is 11-3 in Cleveland's last 14 games overall.
The UNDER is 17-5 in Cleveland's last 22 home games.

Key Injuries - C/F Ben Wallace (8.4 rpg; allergies) has been downgraded to doubtful due to an inner ear infection.
