      Write-up

Week 11 Arena Football analysis....every game discussed......

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      Saturday, May 10
      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Columbus (2-7) @ Kansas City (1-8)—Brigade went to previously-winless Utah last week and lost 67-50; they’re 1-4 at home (3-1-1 vs spread) losing at home by 2-40-8-7 points. Columbus lost last three games, by 18-21-3 points; they had Dallas 33-20 at the half last week, lost 48-45 despite a +3 turnover ratio, tough loss to overcome. Three of their four road games stayed under total.

Grand Rapids (3-6) @ Dallas (8-1)—Desperadoes struggled since the bye, losing at Philly, then rallying from 33-20 halftime deficit to nip 2-7 Columbus 48-45; they’ve turned ball over seven times in those two games, so that has to stop. Dallas is 4-0 at home, winning by 10-11-7-11 points (2-1-1 vs. spread). Rampage lost four of last five games, getting crushed 63-28 last week in Denver.

Utah (1-9) @ Colorado (4-5)—Utah hasn’t had its bye yet, so they must be little tired, but they did get first win last week, 67-50 vs. 1-8 KC; Blaze is 0-5 on road (2-3 as road dog) losing by 3-8-8-17-14 points. Crush is 3-2 in last five games after 1-4 start; they’re 3-2 on road, winning by 3-13-35 points, 2-3 vs. spread when favored. Over is 5-1-1 in last six Colorado games.

New York (5-4) @ Los Angeles (4-6)—Dragons come off their bye with long trip; Avengers haven’t had their bye yet, are 3-2 at home, with wins by 17-17-7 points. LA is 4-2 vs. spread when favored; five of their last six games went over total. Dragons won, covered last four games, allowing just 41 peg, but three of those four were at home; they’re 1-3 on road, losing by 12-21-29 points. Having Garcia at QB helps a lot.

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      Monday, May 12
      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Philadelphia (9-1) @ Georgia (4-5)—Soul lost first game last week playing on very short week; now they get 10 days to prepare for Georgia club that won three of last four home games and is 3-2 SU after 1-3 start. Key Injuries - NONE

              PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Tigers (-135, O/U 9.5): Although he's 2-3, Jeremy Bonderman has been one of the Tigers more consistent pitchers this season. When Bonderman has gotten into trouble, it's been because he's put too many runners on the base paths. In 41 innings pitched, Bonderman has walked 25 batters, while striking out 22. Bonderman hasn't had much success against the Yankees, going 3-6 with a 5.21 ERA in 10 starts.

St. Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers [FOX | 3:40 PM ET]

Cardinals: Joel Pineiro has been solid in 2 of his last 3 starts. In wins over Cincinnati and Pittsburgh, Pineiro only gave up 1 run in 14 innings of work. However, Pineiro struggled in his last outing against the Rockies, giving up 8 hits and 4 runs in 3 innings. Pineiro is less effective on the road, where his ERA is a lofty 6.59 this season.

Cardinals are 10-5 in the last 15 meetings.

              Key Injuries - NONE

              PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Brewers (-175, O/U 8.5): Ben Sheets is an impressive 4-0 on the season but his worst 2 performances have been his most recent outings against the Astros and Cubs. Sheets has given up 8 runs in his last 11 1/3 innings but has been bailed out by strong run support. Another concern is 7 of Sheets' 11 walks on the year have come in his last 2 games. This will be a rare home appearance for Sheets, with 5 of his first 6 starts coming on the road.

Brewers are 1-6 in their last 7 games overall.
The UNDER is 7-2 in Milwaukee's last 9 games as a favorite.

Scott Feldman and three relievers combined for Texas’ third consecutive shutout in a 4-0 win over Oakland. The last time a major league team had three consecutive shutouts was Florida in August 2005. Minnesota was the last American League team to accomplish that feat, in July 2004.

                WOEFUL DEBUT

                HIGH MARKS

Tampa Bay’s 2-0 win over the Angels was its 11th win in 16 games and lifted the Rays, who have won four of their past five series, three games over .500 (19-16) this deep into a season for the first time in franchise history. … Florida is seven games over .500 for the first time since September 2005.

                STRONG START

Brandon Boggs of the Rangers is hitting .385 (15-for-39) with two homers and eight RBIs through his first 11 major league games.

                MILESTONE

Texas has won four straight games and 10 of 14 to escape last place in the AL West. … The Rays have won 11 of 16 and are three games over .500. … The Orioles’ 7-4 win over Kansas City was their 11th straight victory over the Royals. … The Mariners have lost nine of 10 and are already further out of first place than any other team in the AL. … Atlanta is 1-10 in one-run games after a 3-2 loss to Pittsburgh. … The Padres have lost 18 of 22 and have the worst record in the majors.

                SPEAKING

“I think it was just a sinker that he left up. I was more pumped for (James) Shields because I hate to see a guy pitch like that and get a loss.”— Tampa Bay third baseman Evan Longoria, on his game-winning two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth that gave the Rays a 2-0 win over the Angels.

Detroit Pistons at Orlando Magic [ESPN | 5 PM ET]

Pistons: Detroit is confident rookie Rodney Stuckey can get the job done against Orlando's Jameer Nelson if starting point guard Chauncey Billups can't go in Game 4 or is limited due to his hamstring injury. “That matchup has been huge for us,” Pistons head coach Flip Saunders said. “Even Stuck came in and played well in that matchup. It’s probably best that we have a couple of days for him to get some rest, see where he’s at and also have another plan in case he doesn’t play, so that our guys have a comfort level.” Stuckey scored 19 points in Game 3.

Pistons are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 road games.
The UNDER is 9-2 in Detroit's last 11 road games.

Key Injuries - PG Chauncey Billups (17 ppg; hamstring) is listed as questionable.

                          PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Magic (-5, O/U 187): Orlando got exactly what it needed in Game 3, sinking 11-of-24 shots from beyond the 3-point arc and holding a 41-35 rebounding edge. The Magic will need to carry that momentum into Game 4 and could use another monster effort from Rashard Lewis, who scored a season-high 33 points. Lewis presents a tough matchup for Detroit's Tayshaun Prince, especially if Billups does not play. When Prince needs to step up offensively, his defense tends to suffer a bit.

Magic are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games vs. Central Division.
The UNDER is 6-2 in Orlando's last 8 games vs. Central Division.

                          Key Injuries - NONE

                          PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Celtics: Boston can't possibly do a better job containing Cavs star LeBron James, who has made just 8-of-42 shots (19 percent) in the series so far. The Celtics also put together a much better offensive performance in Game 2, with Paul Pierce scoring a game-high 19 points and Ray Allen adding 16 - all in the second half - after going scoreless in Game 1. “Just a better overall effort,” Boston head coach Doc Rivers said in comparing Game 2 to Game 1. “I thought the defense was pretty much the same, pretty solid. I thought the offense was terrific in spurts.”

Underdog is 7-1-1 ATS in the last 9 meetings.
The UNDER is 16-5 in Boston's last 21 games vs. Central Division.

                          Key Injuries - NONE

                          PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Cavs (-1, O/U 176): Cleveland trailed Detroit in last year's Eastern Conference Finals, losing 2 games just about as ugly as the first 2 games of this series. The Cavs scored just 76 points in each of the first 2 games at Detroit last year before rebounding nicely at home. “We found a way to win Game 3 last year,” James said. “Home court has been good for us this year. That’s how we’ll approach it.” The Celtics are 0-3 SU & ATS on the road so far in the playoffs and will face a more hostile environment here in Cleveland than in Atlanta.

The UNDER is 7-1 in Cleveland's last 8 Saturday games.
The UNDER is 11-3 in Cleveland's last 14 games overall.
The UNDER is 17-5 in Cleveland's last 22 home games.

Key Injuries - C/F Ben Wallace (8.4 rpg; allergies) has been downgraded to doubtful due to an inner ear infection.

                          PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

                            NBA Gameday

The Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons clash in a pivotal Game 4 on Saturday, while also on tap is Game 3 between the Boston Celtics and the Cleveland Cavaliers which shapes up as a must-win game for the Cavs.

The Magic can tie their series with Detroit at 2-2 with another win in Game 4 on Saturday. Orlando picked up a much-needed win in Game 3 on Wednesday night after downing Detroit 111-86 as a 5-point favorite. Rashard Lewis came alive in the win with a game-high 33 points, while Dwight Howard added his usual double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Jameer Nelson and Hedo Turkoglu each delivered a solid effort with 18 points apiece.

The Pistons' hopes in this game seemed to fade early after point guard Chauncey Billups left the game just four minutes into the opening quarter with a strained hamstring. Billups did not return and the Pistons suffered greatly without him. Richard Hamilton led the Pistons with 24 points, while Tayshaun Prince chipped in with 22 points and seven rebounds. Rookie Rodney Stuckey filled in for Billups and finished the night with 19 points. The latest on Billups is that he’s still having trouble with his hamstring and is questionable for Saturday’s game. With or without Billups, the Magic are a 5-point favorite again heading into Game 4.

The Cavaliers were hoping for LeBron James to quickly bounce back on Thursday night after his lackluster effort in Game 1. He didn’t though, and the Celtics cruised to an 89-73 win as an 8.5-point favorite. Paul Pierce led Boston with 19 points and Ray Allen finally found his shot again to net 16 points. Kevin Garnett was steady as always for Boston with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

James did have 21 points for Cleveland, but he only shot 6-of-24 from the floor. In the first two games of the series James has shot 8-for-42, or 19 percent. As a team the Cavaliers shot only 35 percent in Game 2, but that still exceeded the 30 percent shooting performance the Cavs delivered in the series opener. If James doesn’t find his game again with the series moving back to Cleveland for Game 3, the Cavaliers could be done. Even at home the oddsmakers have no love for the Cavs after setting Boston as an 8.5-point road favorite.
