          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pick 'n' roll: Monday's best NBA bets
          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

          Boston vs. New York (-5 1/2, 198 1/2)

Knick fans have two things to be happy about tonight. One is that they can stuff their faces with free frankfurters at MSG for fan appreciation night. Two is that it's the last time they'll have to see Isiah Thomas as coach of their team according to a report in the New York Post.

Most sportsbooks opened this line at 7 1/2 points and one even released it as high as nine, but bettors quickly jumped all over that and bumped the line down to 5 1/2.

The reason is that we likely won't see too much of the Celtics' starters tonight. The C's have the Eastern Conference firmly locked up and there's no need to risk injuries. The bench showed it can get the job done Saturday when the reserves came in to play much of the second half in a 99-89 win over Atlanta.

          Pick: Celtics

          Golden State vs. Phoenix (-5 1/2, 232)

The Warriors don't win tonight and it's time to start planning for next season. They're a half-game behind Denver with two games to play and they need to beat the Nuggets by a game because A.I.'s squad owns the tiebreaker.

Normally, the Suns aren't the team you want to see in this situation. But it seems Phoenix is destined to finish sixth after losing to the Rockets on Friday. That means we could see Suns starters playing fewer minutes over their final two games with nothing much left to play for.

Golden State has failed to cover in four straight games, thanks to some inflated lines. The Warriors get the underdog tag tonight though and might be able to take advantage.

          Pick: Warriors

Hot lines: Monday's best MLB bets
            ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

            Toronto vs. Baltimore (+115, 9 1/2)

It's only early, but these two clubs are surprisingly battling for top spot in the AL East, tied at 7-5.

The Blue Jays appeared as though they might have been looking ahead to this matchup yesterday in Texas when they sat a few of their regular starters. Toronto managed to pull out a 5-4 win to earn the series sweep against the Rangers.

The O's are coming off a tough 2-4 road trip after jumping out to a sizzling start to the season. They kick off a seven-game home stand with Matthew Kip Albers getting his first start in an Orioles uniform.

            Pick: Toronto -130

            Arizona vs. San Francisco (+120, 7 1/2)

Randy Johnson makes his return to major league action tonight after serving a rehab stint in Triple A following back surgery.

Even though the Unit is playing the struggling Giants, we're not quite ready to declare this 44-year-old to be in Cy Young form just yet. Don't be surprised if there's a period where he struggles before he finds his groove on the hill.

            Pick: over 7 1/2

Kansas City vs. Seattle (-115, 8)

Zack Greinke takes the hill tonight for the Royals and he's been one of the best values in baseball so far this season. Julian Dickinson tells you all about it in this article.

            Pick: Kansas City +105

Ice picks: Monday's best NHL bets
                  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                  Pittsburgh vs. Ottawa (+120, 5 1/2)

More bad news for the Senators. It looks like they'll be without Jason Spezza tonight after he suffered an undisclosed leg injury last game.

Spezza is listed as doubtful and if he doesn't play, the Sens will be without their top two centers and three of their top five scorers including Daniel Alfredsson and Mike Fisher.

The fact Ottawa is returning home is the only reason the team isn't slated as a Great Dane-sized underdog. Don't bank on the home ice to be enough to propel this short-handed team to victory, however. Sens go down 0-3 in the series after Monday.

                  Pick: Penguins -135

                  Detroit vs. Nashville ( +125, 5)

What do you do when the Red Wings get goals from Darren McCarty, Tomas Holmstrom and Kris Draper?

                  You lose, that's what.

Three of Detroit's goals came from that trio of muckers in a 4-2 win over the Predators on Saturday. That kind of blows out the theory that the Preds might have a shot at beating the Wings by out-muscling them. Not only is Detroit getting scoring from it's grinders, but it is winning the physical battles all over the ice.

Holmstrom was back to his old self in Game 2, wreaking havoc in front of the net and adding an assist to his goal missed 13 games down the final stretch of the season due to a groin injury but he's getting back to form with every shift. He got to the net 18 times in Game 2 compared to six times in Game 1 according to coach Mike Babcock.

Nashville left the game whining about officials and instant replays. That's what happens when you go into a series thinking you'll be able to bully a team into submission and you end up getting bashed around instead.

                  Pick: Red Wings -140

Boston Red Sox at Cleveland Indians [ESPN | 7:05 PM ET]

Red Sox: Red Sox starter Jon Lester looks to bounce back from a rough outing against the Tigers in his last appearance, where he allowed 4 runs in 5+ innings against Detriot’s struggling bats. Lester said he feels like he has been making solid pitches so far this season despite his 4.50 ERA. The south-paw has only allowed just 5 earned runs over 12 innings pitched in his regular season career against the Indians.

Red Sox are 2-9 in their last 11 games as an underdog.

Rockets: The Rockets had nine days with five games and two practices to sharpen their offense, but now must play the second of a back-to-back after playing in the high altitude of Denver just last night. Houston has a strong hold on the No. 5 seed in the West, and is one of the few to actually defeat the Jazz in Utah. In that only meeting between these two teams in Salt Lake the Rockets defeated the Jazz 106-95 with Tracy McGrady lighting it up for 47-points. McGrady said he felt great that night and he has been the scoring leader without Yao Ming in the lineup.

The Warriors are fresh off a 122-116 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday, but they haven’t won back-to-back games since early March and have lost their last five trips to Phoenix.

Suns (-4.5, O/U 230.5): Phoenix has clinched a postseason spot, but a 3-3 record in April prevented the Suns from having a chance at home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. However, Stoudemire had 36 points last time against these Warriors in an 8-point victory.

Suns are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 home games.
