                2008 NHL playoffs
                Opening Round

Washington scored three goals in 3rd period Friday to stun the Flyers 5-4- they outshot Philly 12-3 in third, after being outshot 19-15 in first two periods. Ovechkin took game over late in his first NHL playoff game. Caps are now 7-2 in last nine games vs Flyers, with ten of last 12 in series going over the total.

Canadiens beat Bruins in OT last night on power play goal, the 13th straight win vs Boston, its personal punching bag. Penalty was incredibly soft, but now Habs lead series 2-0, heading into Boston, where they've won last five games (6-3/2-1/4-2/5-2/4-2). Four of those five games went over the total.

Rangers outscored New Jersey 5-1 in third period in taking first two series games; they're 9-1 vs Devils this year, with five wins by one goal, three in OT. Under is 10-3-1 in last 14 series games Odd stat: Drury was 14-4 on faceoffs in Game 1, then just 7-26 in Game 2, including dismal 3-17 vs Madden.

Calgary, San Jose split first two series tilts, with underdog 4-2 in last six between these two. Sharks lost four of last six visits to Saddledome. Flames led 3-1 after second period of Game 1, hung on to win, but haven't scored since. San Jose was 1-10 on power play in Game 2, having man advantage for 16:13.

Hot Lines: Sunday's best MLB bets
                  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                  L.A. Angels at Seattle (-130, 8 1/2)

The Mariners won the first two games of this series with great pitching. They have a chance to do that again today with Erik Bedard on the hill, but the underdog might have some value with the surprising Joe Saunders looking like the real ace here. Bedard has been as good as advertised thus far, helping his team to wins in his first two starts and establishing a 3.27 ERA. But he hasn't yet gone beyond the sixth inning and with a bullpen ERA getting dangerously close to 6.00, it might be a problem if he can?t go deep today. L.A.'s pen has been even worse (7.14) and an ankle injury to Francisco Rodriguez, who hasn't played since a blown save on April 7, is bad news.

But Saunders, on the other hand, has been dishing out some serious cheese in his first two starts. He went eight innings in both outings and has allowed only one earned run, to give him a stunning. 0.56 ERA. That kind of success isn't likely to continue, but then again, Seattle's results against lefties aren't exactly spectacular.

                  Pick: Angels

                  San Diego at L.A. Dodgers (-133, 9)

If yesterday's 11-1 win is any indication, the Dodgers' young guns seem to be rounding into form. Andre Either and James Loney each got three hits in the game and even fill-in third baseman Blake DeWitt got a couple of RBIs. The kids will have a tougher test today against Greg Maddux who is off to a good start this year, but you can't expect the old man's ERA to stay this low much longer. The Dodgers will send out Chad Billingsley, who is yet to last beyond the third inning this season and right now he looks like he's not even sharp enough to throw batting practice. Combine that with a couple of brutal bullpens and you?ve got the recipe for a high-scoring ballgame.

                  Pick: Over

Toronto Raptors at Detroit Pistons [ABC | 1 PM ET]

Raptors: The Raptors are trying to avoid a seventh-place finish in the East, which would pit them against these Pistons in the first round of the playoffs. Toronto has won 2 straight, including beating New Jersey 113-85 on Friday night, and has beaten its last 2 opponents by an average margin of 23 points. However, the Raptors have been terrible at Detroit in recent years, no wins since 2003, while scoring just 88 points per game.

Raptors are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 road games.

                    Key Injuries - NONE

                    PROJECTED SCORE: 88

Pistons (-6.5, O/U 185.5): Having locked up the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference, Detroit has been able to give its starters a break. Richard Hamilton was the only Detroit starter to play more than 24 minutes on Friday night and that was only to get him into playing shape. The Pistons got 52 points from their bench overall in a dominating win over the Wizards that night. Detroit has defeated Toronto 9 straight times in the Palace.

Pistons are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 home games.

                    Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: 98 (Side Play of the Day)

San Antonio Spurs at Los Angeles Lakers [ABC 3:30 PM ET]

Spurs: San Antonio continues to roll towards the playoffs winners of 10 of its last 12 overall, including blowing out the Sonics by 21-points on Friday night. The Spurs are still in the hunt for the No. 1 seed in the West, but desperately need this win to keep in contention. Manu Ginobili (groin) did not play against the Sonics and Greg Popovich said he is "doubtful" for this game. The Spurs have held the Lakers to 95 ppg on the season, and have won 2 of the 3 meetings.

Spurs are are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games.

Key Injuries - Spurs G Manu Ginobili (20 ppg; groin) is doubtful.

                    PROJECTED SCORE: 92

Lakers (-7, O/U 190.5): The Lakers are fresh off a huge 107-104 win Friday night against the West leading Hornets, which saw Kobe Bryant putting up 29 points and 10 rebounds. Los Angeles is now very much in striking distance of the Hornets for that No. 1 West seed and Bryant said: "That was the first step. We want to take another one Sunday." The Lakers have won 2 straight and 6 of their last 7 overall.

Lakers are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games overall.

                    Key Injuries - NONE

                    PROJECTED SCORE: 99

Houston Rockets at Denver Nuggets [10:30 PM ET]

Rockets: The Rockets had nine days with five games and two practices to sharpen their offense. Coach Rick Adelman said there remains work to do, but the strong offensive showing against the Suns on Friday night (101-90 victory) represented a major step in that direction. The Rockets have been a covering machine against the Nuggets: 7-1 ATS last 8 meetings.

Rockets are 16-6 ATS in their last 22 road games.

Key Injuries - Rockets F Shane Battier (9 ppg; foot) is questionable.

                    PROJECTED SCORE: 101

Nuggets (-6, O/U 208): The Nuggets are looking good. But coach George Karl stresses they're not "out of the woods." Denver defeated Golden State 114-105 Thursday to put themselves in great position for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West, but it still needs to keep winning. The Nuggets have suffered just 1 home loss in the last month and a-half while lighting up the scoreboard to the tone of 113 ppg.

Nuggets are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 home games.

                    Key Injuries - NONE

                    PROJECTED SCORE: 107
