Pick 'n' Roll: Saturday's best NBA bets
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Phoenix at New Jersey (+6, 223)

The Nets were never known for their defense, but these days there is very little traffic on the way to the basket for teams visiting the New Jersey Turnpike. Somebody should tell the Nets that they're only 1 1/2 games out of the last playoff spot in the East because they just aren't playing like they give a damn. In their last five games, the Nets have allowed 109.4 points per game and, aside from Denver, they haven't faced any real offensive powerhouses. No wonder the over/under is 7-3 in their last 10 games. Even with a total as high as this, the over looks too tempting with Phoenix in town. You should also know that the over is 9-3 this year in Suns games in which the total is higher than 220.

      Pick: Over

Golden State at Denver (-7, 239)

There is a lot on the line in this game. The Warriors lead the Nuggets by a half-game for the final playoff spot and the season series is tied at 1-1. After seven wins in their last 10 games (including a comeback win over Dallas on Thursday night), Denver is the hot team in this contest and they might be inspired by the expected return of Nene, but these teams are just too evenly matched, the Warriors are too competitive, and the stakes are way too high for this game to end any other way than a tight finish.

      Pick: Golden State

      Charlotte at Portland (-6, 192)

It's not just an injury; it's a disaster. The loss of Brandon Roy leaves the Trailblazers without their team leader and most dangerous weapon. His absence was painfully evident to bettors who thought the Roy-less Blazers looked good at +13 in Golden State Thursday night, but you could see the void in the defense as the Warriors scored 40 in the third quarter and Portland had one of its worst defensive performances of the season. Jarrett Jack had four turnovers playing in place of Roy and against a good Charlotte pressure defense (7.6 steals per game) this spread might hold some value for the underdog.

      Pick: Charlotte

Ice Picks: NHL plays for Saturday's games
          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

          Montreal at Toronto (-130, 6)

A dramatic come-from-behind overtime victory over Buffalo last night got the Montreal Canadiens back atop the Eastern Conference. They hope to stay there while clinching their first division title in 15 seasons on Saturday against the last-place Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Canadiens, who last won five in a row from March 17-27 of last season, visit Ottawa on Tuesday before returning home to face Buffalo on Thursday and Toronto (35-33-10) two nights later in the regular-season finale.

The Maple Leafs are just looking to end the season on a positive note. They were eliminated from playoff contention for the third straight season Thursday, losing 4-2 at eighth-place Boston to drop a home-and-home set. Toronto fell 6-2 at home Tuesday.

Sundin has two goals and five assists in the last six games against Montreal, giving him 32 goals and 80 points in 84 career meetings - his second-highest production in both categories against any club.

          Pick: Montreal

Philadelphia at New York Islanders (-165, 5.5)

The postseason fate of the Philadelphia Flyers is far from determined, and based on their recent play, it's certain they're trying to avoid missing out on the playoffs again.

Martin Biron looks to win his seventh consecutive start against the New York Islanders as the Flyers continue their four-game road trip Saturday night at Nassau Coliseum.

Philadelphia (39-28-11) suffered through a season-high 10-game slide from Feb. 6-23 that dropped it into a ninth-place tie with the Islanders (34-37-7) in the Eastern Conference.

While New York has since been eliminated from playoff contention, the Flyers have gone 9-3-4 to move up to seventh in the conference, one point ahead of Boston and three points in front of ninth-place Washington.

          Pick: Philadelphia -1.5 (+255)

            Saturday, March 29

Cleveland Cavaliers at Detroit Pistons [NBA | 7:30 PM ET]

Cavs: Cleveland is in fourth place in the East but is looking to avoid losing 3 straight for the first time since November. The Cavs fell 100-99 at home to New Orleans on Wednesday after David West scored with 0.6 seconds remaining. Cavs center Zydrunas Ilgauskas said this type of loss "will be hard to forget." Cleveland is 6-4 SU in the last 10 meetings against Detriot - going 9-1 ATS - including last year's Eastern Conference Finals.

Cavs are 9-1 ATS in the last 10 meetings.
Cavs are 18-7 ATS in their last 25 games vs. Central Division.
Cavs are 12-5 ATS in their last 17 Saturday games.

Key Injuries - G Daniel Gibson (12 ppg; ankle) is probable.
C Ben Wallace (5 ppg; back) is doubtful.
G Delonte West (8 ppg; ankle) is questionable.

            PROJECTED SCORE: 87

Pistons (-7.5, O/U 182.5): Detroit has won its last 5 home games overall and 6 of the last 7 at The Palace of Auburn Hills. In the last meeting at The Palace, the Pistons defeated the Cavaliers 109-74 in a rout back on November 28th. However, Cleveland's LeBron James missed the second half of that game and after clinching the team's fourth consecutive division title this week, Detroit's main focus is simply to get healthy for the playoffs. The Pistons have 10 regular-season games remaining to catch Boston for tops in the East but hasn't made up any ground by going 2-3 in its last 5.

Pistons are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
The UNDER is 4-1 in Detroit's last 5 games overall.

Key Injuries - G Richard Hamilton (18 ppg; hip) is questionable.

            PROJECTED SCORE: 95

Milwaukee Bucks at Chicago Bulls [WGN | 8:30 PM ET]

Bucks: The lottery-bound Bucks have been falling apart of late, losers of 8 of their last 10. Milwaukee suffered a 19-point loss to the Hawks on Wednesday night and never came within 10 points of the lead after Royal Ivey's 19-footer made it 94-84 early in the fourth. The Bucks are just 6-29 on the road and haven't won away from home since February 5th at Memphis.

The OVER is 7-1 in Milwaukee's last 8 road games.
The OVER is 11-2 in Milwaukee's last 13 games vs. Eastern Conference.

Key Inuries - C Andrew Bogut (14 ppg; noise) is questionable.

            PROJECTED SCORE: 100

Bulls (-9.5, O/U 208.5): There is absolutely no room for error at this point, as the Bulls are still slightly in the East playoff picture. Larry Hughes said: "We are not giving up," but the problem is their inconsistent play. Chicago managed to beat Atlanta by 9 points Tuesday night but then followed that up with a 22-point loss at Philadelphia. The Bulls defense has been horrible lately, allowing 104 points per game over their last 5 games.

The OVER is 6-2 in Chicago's last 8 games vs. Eastern Conference.
The OVER is 7-3-1 in Chicago's last 11 games vs. Central Division.

            Key Injuries - NONE

            PROJECTED SCORE: 109

Golden State Warriors at Denver Nuggets [9 PM ET]

Warriors: In a matchup of 2 of the league's top offenses, the Warriors look to maintain their slim lead over the Nuggets for the eighth playoff spot in the West. Golden State is averaging 111 ppg on the season and holds a half-game lead over Denver for the final playoff spot. Golden State has alternated wins and losses for the last 9 games, but swingman Stephen Jackson said: "We'll be ready for Denver."

Warriors are 2-6 ATS in the last 8 meetings at Denver.
The OVER is 9-2 in Golden State's last 11 games as an underdog.

Key Injuries - F Mickael Pietrus (7 ppg; groin) is OUT.

            PROJECTED SCORE: 118

Nuggets (-7, O/U 239): Denver is averaging 110 ppg this season and has won 4 straight and 7 of 9, outscoring opponents by 15 points during that stretch. The Nuggets haven't lost at home since February 25th against the Pistons and scored 124 points against this Warriors defense the last time these teams met at the Pepsi Center.

Nuggets are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Nuggets are 16-5 ATS in their last 21 home games.
The OVER is 13-3 in Denver's last 16 home games.
