Pick 'n' roll: Saturday's best NBA bets
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Boston at New Orleans (-1.5, 187.5)

The majority of the Boston Celtics' current roster wasn't even born the last time the team swept a road trip of at least five games.

But after a stunning run through Texas, the Celtics can head home with an unbeaten mark on their five-game road trip Saturday when they face the New Orleans Hornets - the only NBA team they've yet to face this season.

As it has most of the season, stifling defense keyed their current run. Boston has allowed an average of just 83 points on the road trip, ending San Antonio's seven-game home winning streak and Houston's 22-game overall winning streak. The Celtics have won 14 of their last 15 overall and eight straight on the road.

Ray Allen missed the first three games of the trip with an ankle injury, but returned to score 21 points in Thursday's 94-90 win over Dallas, including the go-ahead 3-pointer in the final minute.

They'll be facing a Hornets team that held its last opponent to 34.1 percent shooting. After Boston beat Houston 94-74 on Tuesday, the Rockets lost 90-69 at New Orleans on Wednesday.

Chris Paul had 21 points and 10 assists for his eighth consecutive double-double while David West added 23 points and 11 rebounds in his return from an ankle injury. Bonzi Wells led all scorers with 25 points off the bench in the Hornets' second straight victory and eighth straight at home.

New Orleans - locked in a tight race with numerous teams for the top seed in the Western Conference - trailed the Rockets 55-50 during the third quarter, but outscored them 40-14 the rest of the way.

      Pick: Celtics

      Houston at Phoenix (-7, 203.5)

The Houston Rockets opened a five-game stretch against some of the NBA's toughest teams with the second-longest winning streak in league history. They'll be happy to close it with back-to-back victories.

After bouncing back from consecutive defeats, the Rockets hope to finish the brutal stretch with a win as they visit the streaking Phoenix Suns on Saturday night.

Houston (47-22) had won 21 in a row coming into perhaps the toughest five-game stretch on its schedule. The Rockets extended their remarkable run by beating the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday, but suffered back-to-back blowouts against Boston and at New Orleans.

Houston was outscored 105-59 in the second halves of those games.

On Friday, however, the Rockets got back in the win column by holding off Golden State 109-106. Bobby Jackson and Carl Landry came off the bench to score 16 and 17 points, respectively, as Houston pulled within one game of the Western Conference-leading Lakers.

While the bench scoring was one key to the victory, the Rockets were no doubt just as happy to see Tracy McGrady regain his form. McGrady was held to 23 points on 10-of-32 shooting in the back-to-back losses, but rebounded with 26, eight rebounds and eight assists while going 11-for-23 from the field Friday.

Houston will likely need a similar performance from McGrady to keep up with Phoenix (46-22), which has put together its longest winning streak since November, quieting some critics who questioned the acquisition of Shaquille O'Neal in February.

The Suns were 3-6 in O'Neal's first nine games, but have won their last six to put pressure on the West's top teams. They're currently the fifth seed - 1 ½ games behind the Lakers.

Phoenix will be without guard Raja Bell who crumpled to the court when he landed on a Seattle player's foot on a 3-point attempt on Wednesday. X-rays were negative and the Suns said Bell had a mild-to-moderate ankle sprain. He's expected to miss this game, and be day-to-day after that.

      Pick: Suns

        --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ice Picks: Saturday's best NHL bets
        --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

        Anaheim at Phoenix (-105, 5)

After failing to get a shot in the third period and all but conceding the Pacific Division title, the Anaheim Ducks hope Jean-Sebastien Giguere can return Saturday and help them get closer to securing a playoff berth Saturday when they visit the Phoenix Coyotes, a team they have lost to four times in a row.

The Ducks (42-25-8), the reigning Stanley Cup winners, are second in the division, but seven points behind first-place San Jose with seven games to play after a 2-1 loss to the Sharks on Friday. Anaheim was outshot 43-13, including 17-0 in the third period as it struggled to find any fluid offensive play.

Jonas Hiller, who had 41 saves Friday, could get his second consecutive start after being a late fill-in for Giguere, who developed an undisclosed injury between the morning skate and the pregame warmups.

The Coyotes, who have allowed 22 goals during a four-game losing streak, are hoping to improve their fading playoff chances and avoid dropping a season-high fifth consecutive game for the first time since March 24-April 3. They trail eighth-place Colorado by six points for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference with only seven games left - all against Pacific rivals.

        Pick: Ducks

        Minnesota at Calgary (-154, 5)

A 5-0-2 run at home has helped keep the Calgary Flames near the top of the Northwest Division. Having that streak snapped by the first-place team, though, would severely hinder their chance of capturing the division title.

The Flames look to continue their home success and pull within one point of the first-place Wild when the teams meet Saturday night at Pengrowth Saddledome.

Calgary (38-26-10) stretched its home point streak with a 2-1 victory over Colorado on Thursday. Daymond Langkow and Craig Conroy scored first-period, power-play goals and Miikka Kiprusoff needed to make only 15 saves as the Flames improved their home record to 19-10-9.

Kiprusoff has been outstanding, posting a 1.41 goals-against average and two shutouts during the 5-0-2 streak.

He has won five of six starts in 2007-08 against the Wild while recording a 1.98 GAA. He's also 18-5-2 with one tie, a 1.70 GAA and three shutouts in 26 career starts versus Minnesota.

Flames captain Jarome Iginla has three goals and four assists this season against the Wild.

        Pick: Flames

              All Remaining NCAA tourney games

              Saturday's NCAA Games
Over last four years, #6 seeds are 8-2 vs spread when playing a 3 seed in this round. Purdue rolled over defenseless Baylor in first round- they're just 4-3 in last seven games. Xavier won 14 of last 16 games- they were down 35-26 at half to Georgia, used 27-3 scoring edge from foul line to pull away late. Musketeers beat Indiana by 15 in their only game vs a Big 11 foe. Purdue is 4-3 vs spread as an underdog this season.

Notre Dame won eight of its last ten games; they held George Mason to 50 points Thursday, after allowing five of previous seven foes to score 80+. Washington State covered six of last eight as favorite, but Coogs, who have very little depth, are just 4-3 in last seven games. Wazzu took 171 more free throws than their opponents this year; they're 13-0 outside of Pac-10. Harangoty needs to get Wazzu big men in foul trouble.

Stanford's shaky perimeter players will be tested by the three junior guards Marquette starts; both these teams rank in the top 10 in defensive efficiency, with Marquette ranking 13 slots higher in offensive efficiency- they beat Kentucky in difficult first round game, while Cardinal coasted vs Cornell- both sides are 12-1 out of league, 3-3 in last six games overall. Marquette is 1-5 vs spread in last six games as the underdog.

UNLV coach Kruger is Kansas State alum; his Rebels led 31-10 at half in first round, their fifth straight win, but UNLV is 1-6 vs spread as underdog this season. Kansas is 8-4 vs spread as a non-conference favorite- they made nine of first 14 treys in an easy win over Portland State Thursday. #1 seeds are 7-5 vs the spread in this round the last three years. Jayhawks won eight in a row, covering five of their last seven games.

Pitt, Michigan State both had easy first round wins; Panthers Since '99, #5 seeds are 14-4 vs spread when facing 4 seed in a second round game, 11-3 as underdog. Pitt won six in row and eight of last nine games- they beat Louisville, Marquette and Georgetown on consecutive nights last week, so they're on a serious roll. Spartans covered one of their last six as underdog. This should be very physical game.

Despite making Final Four last two years, UCLA struggled in its second round game, beating Alabama 62-59 (-8.5), Indiana 54-49 (-7.5). Bruins toyed with Mississippi Valley in its opener; they beat Texas A&M 65-62 in Dec '06. #1 seeds are 7-5 vs the spread in this round last three years. Aggies are 4-4 vs spread as underdog this season- they shot 54.3% from floor in win vs BYU, making 8-16 treys, which is unusual for them.
