          Carolina vs. Washington (-135, 6)

The home team has won all four meetings in regulation time in this series this season. That could change tonight when the Canes visit the Verizon Center.

The Caps are coming off a pair of tough road games on back-to-back nights, both of which they won 4-3 in gritty efforts. The wins came against the Blue Jackets and Flyers, two fast-paced physical teams with boisterous home environments.

This could be a letdown spot for the Caps, who are facing a Carolina squad that is coming off a pair of losses against Pittsburgh and Nashville that kicked off a five-game road trip for the Canes. Carolina hopes it can pull out of the slide by slipping some pucks past Brent Johnson, who will get his 17th start of the season for the Caps.

The Canes beat the Caps with Johnson in nets back on Nov. 5 in a 5-0 contest.

          Pick: Canes

          Boston vs. Buffalo (-165, 5.5)

The Sabres have started a nice little tear for themselves that has seen them go 5-0-1 in their last six games. They now sit just two points behind the Bruins for the final playoff spot in the East.

So why the big turnaround? It's likely no coincidence that Jochen Hecht was moved to center recently.

Hecht's line has seven goals and 13 assists over the past six games and Hecht is on pace for the most productive season of his career. The move makes the Sabres better with puck possession, thanks to Hecht's good decision-making and his responsible play at the defensive end as well as the offensive end.

On Tuesday, he had two assists in a 4-2 win over Boston. The Bruins lead the season series 3-2.

          Pick: Buffalo
