  • Report: Shaq for Marion deal in the works

The Miami Heat have told Shaquille O'Neal and his representation that they should be prepared for him to be traded in the near future.
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that Phoenix has discussed sending forward Shawn Marion and point guard Marcus Banks to the Heat in return for O'Neal. Shaq's representatives said they have been made aware that discussions with Phoenix are serious and ongoing, but that a deal was not definite. Marion can opt out of his contract worth $17.1 million at the end of the season. And if he opts out, the Heat would then have substantial salary cap space this offseason, when potential free agents include Gilbert Arenas, Baron Davis, Elton Brand, Marion, Antawn Jamison, Ron Artest and Corey Maggette. Stay tuned.

Phoenix is stupid if they even think about a deal like this.....Phoesnix can win the way they are right now as evidence by last year when they had San Antonio before the suspensions...now if they are healthy this year and still fail at the title or winning the west then they might think about a change

    PEACE

Its a Great deal for both teams and I'll tell you why, it gives Phoenix some kind of size, I know Shaq aint the same but he can still play better than 80% of the centers. It helps Miami because they aint going anywhere anyway and it will give the Heat some time to gel for next year. Also Marion wants out of Phoenix anyway and the Suns have Diaw and Grant Hill to plug in at the Small forward position. JMO

What is Shaq's contract status? IMO, the only way this MIGHT make sense is if this is Shaq's last year on his contract. Even if it is, I am not sure I get it.

Phoenis can win the title as is and they showed it last year until the suspensions in the playoffs....give these guys another run with the current group before you pull the plug.

Lets get real Shaq is fucked at this point and so are the Heat for making that deal but I guess it was a win win since the Heat did that championship

He said about a week ago that he planned on honoring the final 2 years at about 40 million and then possibly retiring. Why would he walk from that!
