Ice picks: Saturday's best NHL bets

Buffalo Sabres at Montreal Canadiens (-160, 5 1/2)

In four games between the clubs this season, the home team is a combined 4-0. That trend could end tonight as these teams finish off their home-and-home series. Buffalo beat Montreal 4-2 on Friday and have now won three in a row overall, which includes two victories over the Canadiens.

"We can't take it for granted," Sabres center Tim Connolly told the Associated Press after Friday's win. "We've played solid the last few games but we still have a ways to go."

      Pick: Sabres +140

Atlanta Thrashers at Pittsburgh Penguins (-170, 6)

When Sidney Crosby and Ilya Kovalchuk face each other there are usually lots of fireworks, but we're not talking about goals. The stars often show their displeasure for one another and they are pointless in the previous two meetings between Atlanta and Pittsburgh, helping under bettors take the cash both times.

Crosby has more penalty minutes than he has points in his last two games, while Kovalchuk and the Thrashers are coming off a 3-0 loss to New Jersey one night ago.

      Pick: Under 6 goals

Chicago Blackhawks at Edmonton Oilers (+115, 5 1/2)

The Blackhawks are one of the most improved teams in the league, but don't bet on them when they invade 'Oil Country'. Chicago has managed just two victories in its last 13 trips to Rexall Place and tonight marks the first time all year that they have been favored on the road.

The Oilers have been unhappy with Dwayne Roloson's play in net recently and could start backup Mathieu Garon. Garon's career goals-against-average versus Chicago is less than 2.00 and he has beaten them in four of five attempts.

      Pick: Oilers +115

          Atlanta at Pittsburgh
The Thrashers look to rebound from last night's 3-0 loss to New Jersey.
