    Six-pack for Tuesday

-- Les Miles has to pay LSU $1.2M if he goes to Michigan and takes their head coaching job.

-- Miami Hurricanes lost their last two games by combined score of 92-14; they've cashed it in for this season.

-- Browns' last three games were all decided by three points. Over is 9-1 in their games, with only one of their totals less than 47 points- they're most interesting team in the NFL.

-- Redskins are already $19.8M over salary cap. For 2008.

-- In their last two games, Lions ran ball 19 times for 7 yards.

-- Denver had 343 yards on their first 36 plays Monday, and also had punt return for a TD. You just never know in NFL, from week to week, what the hell's going to happen.

Tuesday's List of 13: Our college football List of 13.....

      13) Arizona-- Not only saved Mike Stoops' job, they won last three games and KOd Oregon from national title hunt.

      12) Texas Tech-- My dad was watching Tech play for a while Saturday; finally he looks up and says, "Does this team ever run the ball?" Well, um, not much.

      11) Utah-- On a roll, winning seven in row since a 1-3 start.

      10) Illinois-- Followed up Ohio State upset with rout in rivalry game vs Northwestern. Not always easy to do.

      9) Central Florida-- Knights are now 8-3, Notre Dame is 2-9. Maybe they should have stuck by O'Leary, instead of giving him the heave-ho over a 20-year old mistake.

      8) Air Force-- Quietly had excellent season (9-3). Went 7-0 vs the spread in last seven games. Impressive.

      7) UL-Monroe-- Warhawks beat Alabama, handing Tide third loss in row, jeopardizing their bowl bid.

      6) Boston College-- Terrorized Clemson, beating Tigers for third straight year, with all three in agonizing fashion.

      5) Ohio State-- Now Tressel has to be concerned whether or not Michigan hires a coach who will raise Wolverines' level of play. Remember, before Tressel arrived in Columbus, Carr seemingly had Ohio State's number.

      4) West Virginia-- White is improving as passer; they need a bowl game on artificial turf.

      3) Missouri-- Caught a break when Kansas sold this game off to Arrowhead Stadium; neutral field beats a road game.

      2) Kansas-- If you put Notre Dame's uniforms on Jayhawks, national nitwit media would be declaring them one of greatest teams of all time. Two wins from playing for national title.

      1) LSU-- Could lose Miles and defensive coordinator Pellini (to Nebraska) before their bowl game. Then what?

What bettors need to know: Middle Tennessee State at Troy
                ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders at Troy Trojans (-11 ½)

                In the shadows

The Troy Trojans feel overlooked. They are the only Football Bowl Subdivision team in Alabama that can still win their conference title, yet that achievement will be completely overshadowed by next weekend’s Alabama-Auburn clash.

"To the public, we kind of play in their shadows," Troy linebacker Marcus Richardson told The Associated Press this week. "In my opinion, I don't think we do. I think that's the reason why we don't get to play them.

“We take pride in having a good record and take pride in being one of best schools in Alabama.”

The Trojans close out their season with games against Middle Tennessee and Florida Atlantic. A single win would guarantee them at least a share of the Sun Belt title. But Troy wants to win both games and secure the outright title for the second straight year.

"We don't have to win both games unless you just want to do it right and be outright champions," head coach Larry Blakeney said. "I know everybody wants to do that."

Troy’s players certainly don’t lack any motivation. Richardson says that the Trojans “kind of have a natural chip” on their collective shoulders. Many of them were passed up by some of the bigger schools in the state.

"Everyone has a different situation or predicament that puts them here," he said. "A lot of guys went to other schools and had to transfer here. We naturally as a team play with a chip. We always try to play like we're mad at the world. That's just the level of play that the team has."

                Long shot

A shock 34-24 loss at home to Louisiana-Lafayette in the Raiders’ last game makes it unlikely they will get a bowl bid. But they are still not out of the running for a share of the conference title.

"We have a ton to play for at Troy," MT coach Rick Stockstill told Sidelines, the school’s student paper. "At this point, there is still hope that we can be in the mix to share the championship.

“Is it a long shot? Yeah, probably, but there is still hope."

Several things would have to happen for the Raiders to grab a share of the Sun Belt title. First, they would have to beat Troy. Then the Trojans would have to lose their final game of the season to Florida Atlantic. Next, MT would need Florida Atlantic to lose on the road against Florida International.

If that scenario played out, the title would be shared between Troy, Florida Atlantic and Middle Tennessee. Given Troy’s domination of conference opponents this season, a win for the Raiders on Tuesday is far from a given.

"Troy is very good, obviously," Stockstill added. "They have one of the better offenses and defenses in the conference. Defensively, their team speed is very noticeable. Their back seven will be the best we have faced all year within this conference."

The Trojans have beaten all five conference opponents they have met this season, covering the spread each time.

                Quarterback controversy

Middle Tennessee coach Rick Stocksill took some criticism after he replaced junior quarterback Joe Craddock in the second quarter of the Nov. 10 loss to ULL.

The game was tied at 14 apiece when Stocksill removed Craddock, who had passed for 89 yards, two TDs and no interceptions. Dwight Dasher took over and was 5-of-11 passing for 29 yards and one interception.

Stocksill stood by his decision this week.

“If I had that same situation 100 times, in that same course of the game with everything going on, I’d handle it the same way every time,” he told the Daily News Journal.

“Obviously Dasher was not 100 percent, and that probably limited him a little bit,” Stockstill said, referring to a knee injury the freshman is battling. “But I never ever considered putting Craddock back in the game.”

Stocksill added that he has made no firm decision on who will start the game against Troy, but will base his decision on performances in practice as well as Dasher’s health.

Craddock has thrown for 1,143 yards, 10 touchdowns and four interceptions this season, while Dasher has 1,148 passing yards, eight TDs and three interceptions.

                Hobbled Haugabook

Playing through the pain has backfired for Troy quarterback Omar Haugabook. The reigning Sun Belt player of the year believes that overcompensation for one injury probably led to another in the recent win over Western Kentucky.

Haugabook went into that contest nursing a strained hamstring and came out of it with a strained oblique.

“He probably compensated for the hamstring with his throwing motion which caused him to miss a few and lose some confidence,” head coach Larry Blakeney told the Dothan Eagle. “We need to get his fundamentals back and get his confidence back.”

While Haugabook is ready to play against Middle Tennessee this week, he is not going to be 100 percent fit. He may have to play hurt for the remainder of the season.

“It doesn’t take an expert to say that the last three weeks, he hadn’t been the same Omar,” offensive coordinator Tony Franklin said. “He’s lost a good part of what makes him so good which is take it and go.

“Teams are sitting back and dropping eight and deciding they’re not going to let him kill them with his legs. We have to figure out a way to coach better and find more productive ways.”

Haugabook has thrown for 2,516 yards and 15 touchdowns this season. He managed 235 passing yards and two touchdowns in last year’s 21-20 win over Middle Tennessee.

                Head to head

Troy has won and covered in two of its last three meetings with Middle Tennessee. The last two games between these teams have been under the total.

The Raiders are 8-3 ATS versus teams with a winning record, while the Trojans are 7-2 ATS for the season.

NFL mismatches: Where to find the edge in Thursday’s games

If you are trying to find an edge for your Thanksgiving bets, look no further. The following is a selection of Thursday’s NFL games where mismatches in key areas could have a major impact on the outcome.

Packers QB Brett Favre vs. Lions’ pass defense

Brett Favre has sliced through every team he has faced this season and is second only to Tom Brady in passing yards (2,975) this season. The veteran QB seems certain to have another bumper day when he faces a Lions pass defense that ranks among the worst in the league.

Favre has rolled back the clock, throwing for more than 300 yards in six different games this season. In his most recent outing, the 38-year-old racked up 218 passing yards and three touchdowns in a 31-17 win over Carolina – Green Bay’s fifth straight victory.

The Lions’ biggest struggle this season has been defending the pass. They are giving up more than 257 yards per game in the air and their secondary shows no signs of improvement. Detroit has dropped its last two games, yielding 544 passing yards and five passing TDs in the process.

Green Bay is an 3 ½-point road favorite on Thursday.

Cowboys running back Marion Barber vs. Jets’ rush defense

Marion Barber leads the Cowboys with 610 rushing yards and six TDs this season. A Jets rush defense that is allowing more than 148 yards per game is unlikely to be able to deal with Barber’s strength and speed.

Barber’s best attribute is his versatility. As well as leading the team in rushing, he has clocked up 189 receiving yards and a receiving TD. He’s also returned three kicks for 58 yards and is averaging 4.84 yards per carry.

The Jets have the NFL’s 28th-ranked rush defense, a big reason they have lost nine of their 11 games this season. Their defense against the run has been severely weakened by season-ending injuries to starting linebackers Jonathan Vilma and Cody Spencer.

Despite a strong showing in its upset win over the Steelers on Sunday, New York has allowed six different running backs to rush for more than 100 yards this season.

Dallas is a 13 ½-point home favorite in his contest.

Colts receiver Reggie Wayne vs. Falcons’ pass defense

Reggie Wayne has been on fire in recent weeks, catching 35 passes for 576 yards and two touchdowns in the past five games. The All-Pro receiver is the main target of quarterback Peyton Manning and should continue to produce against the struggling Falcons this week.

Wayne is the third-ranked receiver in the league, with 945 yards and six touchdowns in 10 games. He has hit the century mark in passing yards in four games this season and is averaging more than 15 yards per reception.

The Falcons secondary did a decent job against the pass early in the season, but has since struggled. In the past five games Atlanta has allowed an average of 197 passing yards per game.

Indianapolis is an 11 ½-point favorite on the road.

Los Angeles Lakers at Indiana Pacers (7 PM ET)

LA's bench scored 73 points in a 106-78 rout of Chicago on Sunday. The Laker reserves came through big to help bail out star Kobe Bryant, who has failed to score 20 points in each of the last two games. Chicago struggled mightily without Luol Deng in the second half of a 106-78 road loss to the Lakers on Sunday, getting outscored 61-32. Deng is suffering from a back injury and could miss a week of action. BIG EDGE: NUGGETS
Bulls are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 against the Western Conference.

Phoenix Suns at Sacramento Kings (10 PM ET)

Phoenix has not lost since star big man Amare Stoudemire re-joined the lineup, as the Suns are riding a five-game winning streak. They have scored more than 110 points in three straight, shooting 56.1 percent from the field during that stretch. EDGE: SUNS
Sacramento has earned back-to-back wins - something the team had not accomplished in its previous 30 games. Part of that success is due to Beno Udrih becoming the starting point guard for the Kings, as he is averaging 16.7 points and 5.7 assists in the last three games. EDGE: KINGS
Suns are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Tuesday games.

Pick 'n' roll: Tuesday's best NBA bets

Philadelphia 76ers vs. Washington Wizards (Odds not yet released)

Philadelphia, owner of the league’s fifth-ranked defense, is allowing less than 92 points per outing on 43 percent shooting. Fourth-year star Andre Iguodala is leading the 76ers with nearly two steals per outing. Newcomer Reggie Evans is chipping in with a team-leading nine rebounds per game, while veteran Samuel Dalembert is registering more than two blocks per contest.

Washington star Gilbert Arenas, who is averaging more than 21 points and six assists per outing, could miss Tuesday’s showdown against Philadelphia with a nagging back injury.

                            Pick: 76ers

San Antonio Spurs at Atlanta Hawks (+6, 191)

San Antonio is outscoring opponents by nearly eight points per contest. It is also limiting opponents to fewer than 90 points per outing on 45 percent shooting from the field, including 32 percent shooting from the three-point line.

Atlanta, loser of two straight, has lost four of its last five outings by a combined 46 points. The Hawks are also 4-9-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last 14 meetings with the Spurs.

                            Pick: Spurs -6

Milwaukee Bucks at Cleveland Cavaliers (-7, 195)

Milwaukee, winless on the road, is riding a two-game winning streak. The Bucks are averaging less than 94 points per outing and are shooting less than 35 percent from the three-point line. Even sharpshooter Michael Redd, the Bucks’ leading scorer, is shooting less than 33 percent from behind the arc.

Cleveland, fresh off a home win over the Utah Jazz, is 2-2 straight up (SU) at Quicken Loans Arena. LeBron James, leading the Cavaliers in points (29.2), assists (8), steals (1.8) and blocks (1.7), was one assist shy of his 11th career double-double on Saturday.

                            Pick: Cavaliers -7

Los Angeles Lakers at Indiana Pacers (+2, 207)

The Lakers, winners of three straight, are dominating their opponents at both ends of the court. They are averaging more than 104 points per contest on 47 percent shooting, while limiting opponents to fewer than 97 points per outing on 42 percent shooting.

L.A. faces an Indiana team that is 2-8 ATS in its last 10 home contests. The Pacers are also 1-6 ATS in their last seven outings.

                            Pick: Lakers -2

Golden State Warriors at New York Knicks (+1 1/2, 220)

Stephen Jackson’s return on Sunday helped Golden State to a victory over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday. Jackson tallied 17 points, five assists and three rebounds in the win. His return gives Golden State’s offense, already amassing more than 108 points per contest, yet another weapon.

The Knicks, losers of five straight, are a meager 1-7 ATS in their last eight contests at Madison Square Garden. New York, loser of eight of its last 10 contests against Golden State, has covered the spread just twice in its last five meetings with the Warriors.

                            Pick: Warriors -1 1/2

Toronto Raptors at Dallas Mavericks (-9, 196 1/2)

The Raptors, owners of an impressive 3-1 SU road record, are shooting an astounding 42 percent from the three-point line and 44 percent from the field. Toronto has also amassed more than 100 points in three of its four road outings this season.

Meanwhile Dallas is allowing opponents to shoot 37 percent from the three-point line. The Mavericks also allowed Philadelphia, shooting less than 32 percent from behind the arc, to shoot above 50 percent from long-distance on Nov. 13.

                            Pick: Raptors +9

Chicago Bulls at Denver Nuggets (-7 1/2, 204)

The Luol Deng-less Bulls, owners of a miserable 1-4 SU and ATS road mark, are arguably the worst offensive club in the league. The Bulls are scoring less than 88 points per contest and are shooting a NBA-worst 38 percent. They are also conceding more than 96 points per outing.

Denver should capitalize on the visitors’ woes. The Nuggets own the league’s most potent offense and have won five straight. They have also won their last three home games by a combined 71 points. The Nuggets are 7-1 ATS in their last eight meetings with the Bulls.

                            Pick: Nuggets -7 1/2

                            Phoenix Suns at Sacramento Kings (+7 1/2, 213 1/2)

The Suns, winners of five straight, are 5-1 SU and 3-3 ATS on the road. They are shooting an impressive 48 percent from the field and are outscoring their opponents by an average of seven points. They also defeated the undermanned Houston Rockets 115-105 on Saturday.

Sacramento, winner of two straight, is still allowing more than 104 points per outing on 47 percent shooting. The Kings, losers of five of their last six meetings with the Suns, are a meager 2-4 ATS in their last six contests against Phoenix.

                            Pick: Suns -7 1/2

                              Tuesday NBA Gameday

LeBron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers will be looking to go over the .500 mark on the year when they host the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday. Here's your NBA Gameday:

Milwaukee Bucks at Cleveland Cavaliers, 7:00pm ET

The Bucks have won two straight games over the Hawks and Grizzlies after dropping two in a row to the tough Rockets and Spurs a week ago. Andrew Bogut and Michael Redd each tossed in 21 points for Milwaukee in their 105-96 win over Atlanta on Saturday. Mo Williams had 11 points and 10 assists, while Yi Jianlian scored five points.

The Cavaliers snapped a two-game losing streak (versus the Nuggets and Magic) by knocking off the Jazz 99-94 last Friday night. LeBron James exploded for 40 points in that win over Utah, and he's now averaging 29.2 points-per-game on the year. Zydrunas Ilgauskas picked up 17 points and 12 rebounds in Cleveland's fifth win of this season.

Toronto Raptors at Dallas Mavericks, 8:30pm ET

The up-and-down Raptors have lost five of their past eight games to sit at just 5-5 on the season. Toronto went 1-2 last week, beating the Pacers on Friday but falling to both the Jazz and the Warriors. Chris Bosh had just 11 points in Toronto's 106-100 home loss to Golden State on Sunday, and the slumping forward is averaging just 16.2 PPG.

The Mavericks were upset by the Trail Blazers back on November 10, but since then they've rattled off three straight wins over the Sixers, Spurs, and Grizzlies. In Saturday's 108-105 home win over Memphis Josh Howard led the way with 27 points and seven rebounds. Dirk Nowitzki picked up 21 points in that win, and Devin Harris tossed in 19.

Chicago Bulls at Denver Nuggets, 9:00pm ET

The floundering Bulls actually found their way back into the win column vs. the Clippers on Saturday night, but they then promptly lost 106-78 to the Lakers on Sunday. Chicago has now lost six of their eight November games. Ben Gordon led the way for the Bulls on Sunday with 20 points, while Luol Deng missed that contest with a sore lower back.

The Nuggets were stuck in a three-game losing streak at the beginning of November, but since then they've managed to win five in a row (over the Wizards, Pacers, Cavaliers, Blazers, and Knicks) to move to 7-3 on the season. Carmelo Anthony had a team-high 24 points versus New York on Saturday, while Allen Iverson was good for 23.

Phoenix Suns at Sacramento Kings, 10:00pm ET

The Suns sit at 8-2 and atop the Pacific Division heading into Tuesday night's game, thanks to their current five-game winning streak. Phoenix has knocked off the Heat, Magic, Knicks, Bulls, and Rockets, in order, since getting upset by the Hawks on November 7. Steve Nash had 19 points and 15 assists in Saturday's win over Houston.

The Kings have won two straight games over the Knicks and Pistons to improve their season record to a middling 4-6. Sacramento had lost two in a row to Utah and Minnesota prior to that streak. Beno Udrih led the Kings with 23 points in their 105-95 home win over Detroit on Sunday, while Brad Miller had 15 points and nine rebounds.

                              ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
