    Six-pack for Tuesday

-- Utah tried an onside kick after scoring to go ahead 43-0 against Wyoming; the Cowboys' coach flipped the bird at the Utes' bench, and he got scolded for it. Nothing is said about the jackass doing an onside kick when ahead 43-0.

-- Tuesday is the first day baseball free agents can sign on with new teams. The big guys usually take a while to sign.

-- I am mystified why the Mannings insisted on Eli playing for the Giants; he doesn't seem the big-city type.

-- The refs in Oregon State-Washington game Saturday are in need of talking to; their bad call on OSU fumble almost cost Beavers the game-- and why didn't Riley challenge it? The back was down, then crossed goal line, then fumbled, but it was horrendously called a fumble.

-- Notre Dame is ranked 118th in rushing offense, Duke is ranked 119th; they play each other this week. There are 119 teams in Division I-A football, by the way.

-- Since the Patriots #1 have two picks in next April's draft, shouldn't they forfeit higher of the two picks? Right now, 49ers' pick would be #5 pick- that would be a proper penalty for the SpyGate caper.

Tuesday's List of 13: Our college football List of 13.....

This list isn’t a ranking, except the #1 team will be the team we think should be their in the "real" polls. Teams get posted here, based on things that happen from week-to-week…….

      13) Mississippi State -- Bowl eligible for first time since '00; in last three games vs Alabama, Tide has zero offensive TDs.

      12) Virginia -- 48-0 at Miami? Wow. After three straight wins, all by a point, Cavs exploded in Orange Bowl finale.

      11) Rice -- Allowed 90 points in last two wins. Not good news if you're the defensive coordinator.

      10) Illinois -- It officially became Ron Zook's program when he won in the Horseshoe; very emotional win. Sticking with his QB Williams over McGee seems like a turning point.

      9) NC State -- Won last four games, now has shot at bowl in season when they were 1-5, at one point. Tremendous job by an excellent coach. Did give up two defensive TDs vs UNC.

      8) Georgia -- Its like Mark Richt woke up one day and all of a sudden remembered he played college ball at Miami; Dawgs celebrate now, they wear black jerseys, they play lot better.

      7) Cincinnati -- This Brian Kelly is some coach; ADs all over America take note; coaches who win at lower levels are much better choices to succeed than entry level coaches.

      6) West Virginia -- Still bit concerned with offensive balance.

      5) Missouri -- Need to beat rival Jayhawks, then avenge loss to Oklahoma to get unexpected shot at national title.

      4) Oklahoma -- Will get Mizzou-Kansas winner in Big 12 title game; winner is likely to get shot at national title game, that is if Sooners can survive their rival, Oklahoma State.

      3) Kansas -- Jayhawks hammered Colorado, who beat Sooners

      2) Oregon -- Team speed at RB-QB-WR is off the charts; their rivalry game with Beavers could be dicey.

      1) LSU -- Les Miles is probably studying film of McFadden as you read this; Arkansas game has to scare him.

        College Football - Dunkel Index

        NCAAF
        Dunkel Index

        Toledo at Ball State
It took Toledo a while to get going, but the offense looks to be at full throttle right now. The Rockets have put up 122 points in back-to-back wins over Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois to pull back to .500 (5-5) heading into tonight's contest with Ball State. The Cardinals should certainly provide a stiffer test than the bottom two teams of the West Division. But Ball State has also seen its defense exploited, such as the 58-point explosion they gave up to Central Michigan at home back in October. Toledo RB Jalen Parmelee (1,306 yards, 13 TDs) is playing as well as anyone in the conference right now, winning two of the last three conference offensive player of the week honors. With plenty of momentum coming in, the Rockets look like a good underdog pick (+5 1/2) in this one according to Dunkel, which has the game even. Dunkel Pick: Toledo (+5 1/2).

        TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 13

Game 301-302: Toledo at Ball State
Dunkel Ratings: Toledo 80.482; Ball State 80.374
        Dunkel Line: Even; 66 1/2
Vegas Line: Ball State by 5 1/2; No Total
        Dunkel Pick: Toledo (+5 1/2); N/A

                      Tuesday's Games

                      Top Five Games

Vanderbilt beat Austin Peay 81-67 in opener Saturday; they've got three starters back from last year's 22-12 Sweet 16 team that played in postseason for fourth straight year. Toledo lost three starters from 1912 team; they beat Missouri State 57-53 at home Saturday, barely holding on to a 35-23 halftime lead. Vanderbilt beat Toledo in OT last season, 98-93 (-4.5), in Nashville.

Ole Miss has Florida transfer Huertas to offset the loss of PG Abernethy; he scored 14 in Rebels' opening 97-63 win- Rebels are trying to play fast, like Arkansas/UAB/Missouri. Its a new wea for South Alabama, as Ronnie Arrow is back for another stint as HC- they beat some stiff team 73-41 in opener Saturday. Ole Miss beat USA in Mobile last year, 72-62 (-2).

Washington State hammered Eastern Washington 68-41 in the opener, leading 31-19 at half'; they visit Boise squad that won in OT Friday, 73-72 vs pretty good Utah Valley team (coached by former Utah coach Hunsaker). Broncos have three starters back from 17-14 team, but will miss George Karl's son Cody. Coogs struggled to beat Boise at home last year, 65-63 (-9.5).

Syracuse has only one senior on its squad, but has point guard who is fearless freshman; they hit 11-21 treys last night in 97-89 win over Siena club that forced 23 turnovers. St Joe's will play slower than Siena; they also shot 11-21 from arc, playing four guys 32+ minutes. Interesting to see how Martelli attacks 2-3.

Fordham has five senior starters, not much depth; they won at Columbia in first road game, then beat Central Missouri 76-66 in first round last night. Missouri plays 40 Minutes of Hell, so up to experienced Fordham guards to protect ball. Tigers won first round game 87-76 vs Chippewas, leading 43-38 at the half.

                      Rest of the Card

-- Cleveland State (+7.5) won opener 73-70 at South Florida of Big East; good start for Waters in his second year at CSU; they lost 79-74 at home to George Mason LY. Patriots beat Vermont in its opener Friday, 60-53.

-- Buffalo lost 77-61 at South Florida LY (-4); Buffalo lost 82-57 at UConn last week, after beating D-II opponent. USF (-7.5) lost 73-70 in Heath's debut as head coach, at home vs Cleveland St .

-- Rice has three starters back from 16-16 team but is picked #11 in C-USA, because Morris Almond is in NBA now. TCU should be better, as 80% of scoring, 76% of rebounding is returning.

-- Gonzaga lost star Heytfeldt (foot surgery) for 4-6 weeks, but they still have good team; they beat Idaho 76-51 LY; this is last game for Zags until they head up to Great Alaskan Shootout.

-- Richmond gave Memphis scare for half, but then Norfolk St beat them Saturday, so Spiders are still a mess; they won in OT last year vs East Carolina, who has new coach in McCarthy, who is an upgrade from the departed Stokes.

-- Wyoming crushed Denver last year, 91-59 (-16); Pioneers are Princeton-style team now- they lost 80-50 at Oklahoma, after an OT win vs East Central Oklahoma. Cowboys have new coach, who comes from Portland State, and three starters back.

-- Cal-Irvine (-9.5) beat LMU 74-61 in its opener; they lost 83-64 in Reno LY (+20.5). Nevada lost its opener by three at Central Florida over weekend, so they've been doing lot of travelling.

-- Gillispie left cupboard pretty full when he left for Kentucky; Texas A&M has three startersback from 27-7 team, but if you break in new coach and new PG at same time, its not so good. Oral Roberts lost pair of three-time all-league players.

-- Columbia had three guys play 31+ minutes last night, now are facing young Ohio State squad that led Green Bay 46-34 at half last night, then pulled away to win 91-68, shooting 11-24 on 3's.

-- Weber State somehow lost to San Bernadino last night; they blew chance to be on ESPN2. Youngstown got whacked by the Bruins last night; they're rebuilding, needed the TV exposure.

-- Utah has four starters back but new coach after 11-19 season they won opener 86-52 vs some stiff. Utes don't finish 11-19 a whole lot. High Point won 22 games LY, lost 61-55 at Charlotte in its opener, so they're pretty good team.

-- Loyola, Chi whacked Eastern Illinois 66-43 (-17) in Bracket Buster game LY. Ramblers lost four starters from 21-11 team, is picked #7 in Horizon. EIU is picked 8th in OVC- they lost pair of starters from last year's team.

-- No word if Olson will be back to coach Arizona is its opener vs Northern Arizona, which lost 101-79 on this floor last season (+22.5). NAU lost three starters from last year's 18-12 outfit.

-- Long Beach has whole new team, losing its top nine scorers from LY's league champs; they lost 74-34 at home in opener vs BYU. Montana State was 11-19 LY, is picked fifth in Big Sky.

-- Xavier beat Miami 68-53 LY (-10); Musketeers have all-senior backcourt, but lost three other starters- they're picked to win in A-14 this year. Miami has three starters back from 18-13 team.

-- Interesting to see how Michigan State opens after dropping exhibition to D-II Grand Valley State in OT; Spartans have all five starters back from LY's 23-12 team- they have to be at least a little bit in shock after the loss, even though it doesn't count.

                          Tuesday NBA Gameday

Paul Pierce and his revamped Boston Celtics will be gunning for their sixth straight victory to open the season in Indiana on Tuesday night. Here is your NBA Gameday . . .

Boston Celtics at Indiana Pacers, 7:00pm ET

The Celtics ran their record to 5-0 with a 112-101 road win over the Nets on Saturday night. Pierce led Boston's attack with 28 points in that contest, Ray Allen tossed in 27 points, and Kevin Garnett was good for 18 points and 14 rebounds. Boston has also beaten the Wizards, Raptors, Nuggets, and Hawks in their perfect start to the campaign.

Indiana started the season with wins over the Wizards, Heat and Grizzlies, but since then they have lost three straight contests to the Clippers, Bobcats, and Nuggets. Troy Murphy had a team-high 18 points in the Pacers' loss to Denver on Saturday night, and Mike Dunleavy tossed in 17 points. Forward Ike Diogu is out indefinitely with a calf injury.

Philadelphia 76ers at Dallas Mavericks, 8:30pm ET

The 76ers have lost consecutive games to the Raptors and Hornets since starting the season with two wins in four contests. Philly was soundly beaten 93-72 on their own court on Sunday by New Orleans. Andre Iguodala led the Sixers with 17 points in that contest, and Samuel Dalembert added 15 points. Herbert Hill is out with a knee injury.

The Mavs started the year with an impressive win over the Cavs, but they've been tagged with losses by both the Hawks and the Blazers over the past couple of weeks and sit at just 4-2 right now. Against Portland last time out Dallas fell by a score of 91-82 on the road; Josh Howard led the team with 20 points, and Dirk Nowitzki scored just 11.

Los Angeles Lakers at San Antonio Spurs, 8:30pm ET

The Lakers started their season with a slim loss to the Rockets, but they've won three of their four games since then to sit with a 3-2 record heading into Tuesday night's game. Los Angeles had no trouble getting past the T-Wolves on Friday night, getting 30 points from Kobe Bryant in that 107-93 victory. Lamar Odom tossed in 18 points on the night.

The Spurs haven't had a championship letdown so far this season; they've won five of their six contests over the past couple of weeks. San Antonio's only loss came on November 6, when they fell to the Rockets. On Sunday the Spurs beat the Bucks 113-88, with Manu Ginobili scoring a game-high 21 points and Tim Duncan going for 16-10.

New York Knicks at Phoenix Suns, 9:00pm ET

The Knicks were actually 2-1 over their first three games of the season, but since then they've lost two straight contests to sit with a 2-3 record. New York was edged 75-72 by the Heat at Madison Square Garden last time out. Eddy Curry led the Knicks' offense in that game with 19 points, while Zach Randolph skipped the game for personal reasons.

The Suns have won four of their past five games and they sit with a 5-2 record to start the season. Phoenix's two losses came against the Lakers and the Hawks, while they knocked off the Magic 106-96 on the road in their most recent game on Saturday. Leandro Barbosa exploded for 39 points that night, while Steve Nash added 19 points.

                              Detroit at Portland
The young Blazers have played well even without Greg Oden. Portland will try to keep its record perfect at home (3-0) tonight against Detroit. Defense has been the key as the Blazers have held opponents to an average of 90.0 points at the Rose Garden. Meanwhile Brandon Roy has stepped up as the go-to guy with a 23.7 scoring average during the streak. Roy had a career-high 32 points in a 91-82 win over Dallas on Saturday that marked the Blazers first win over the Mavs in 14 tries. Portland looks like a good home underdog pick (+5) in this one according to Dunkel, which has the Blazers favored straight up by 1. Dunkel Pick: Portland (+5). Here are all of today's games.
