Glad someone out there benefitted from it cause this happened like 3-4 years ago and it was back when I was a young dumb gambler and I think I had like my whole allowance on it...j/k...but I remember I definately bet more than I could really afford to lose and was fuckin fuming....

Just 2-3 weeks ago I had Fla -6.5 against kentucky for a 4 team parlay to win 2600.00 so I did the right thing and bought back 1000.00 on kentucky to lock in profit. Kentucky was down 7 with 1:30 to go and Fla drives in and instead of kneeling Tebow runs infor the td to put fla up by 14 again. Kentucky then drives down and with no time left on the clock scores a td. wooooohoooooo I scored a free push on a 1000.00 bet right. nooooo they walked of and didnt kick the extra point. I still won but give me a break, that was like burning 10 100's in the fire.

I had Florida -7 in that one and was all pissed off. I thought, I can't believe these fuckers are just going to let them come down and score and I'm going to get a push out of this. Low and behold, no extra point attempted. Fla wins by 8

I only wish I had been keeping a journal of all of the great dramatic wins/losses on strange unlikely happenings, as in my 30 years of doing this there would make a great read. Of course the problem is that the only people who would find it interesting and understand the irony/significance are us degen gamblers.

Off the top of my head, the all-time greatest for me became such because of the financial situation and the circumstances surrounding this must-win scenario.

Monday Night Football ( 1996 or 97)- Pittsburgh at Jacksonville..

GPa was down a ton to his man, and the week ends with every Monday night game. Trouble was, as was often the case, GPa had bet beyond his means, and did not have enough $$$ to satisfy the cutoff figure with his man. So of course, since he had to settle up on Tuesdays if behind, there was not a lot of time to come up with the scratch, and this particular book was like those in "Ten Benny," the kind who was not too understanding when it comes to betting money you don't have, and thusly being unable to pay.

The line was Jax -4 and I forget the total, but lets say 41 or so. GPa decided the bailout plan was to play JAX -4 heavy, and try to tie in a 2 team parlay with Jax tied to the OVER ,and if fortunate enough to get both correct, would effectively dodge the bullet for another week.

OK, I'll cut to the chase. JAX seems to be in control for most of the game, but never to the point where covering the 4 is looking particularly good, or even eminent. In the 4th quarter, Jax is up 23-21, so the over is in, and all GPa needs is the 4 point spread taken care of. JAX is driving pretty easily, as they have most of the game, but there is a long way to go. JAX drive stalls deep in Pitt territory, and GPa is frustrated, as he really wanted a TD to force Pitt to score a TD to beat him, Jax, and the spread.

Alas, Jax misses the FG with about 11 minutes to go. Still 23-21. GPa knows Jax must score again, or he is doomed, maybe even without the use of his thumbs again. But Pittsburgh methodically moves the sticks, working the clock exclusively on the ground and with short passes. GPa has been talking on the phone with a friend during this time, hoping for any kind of miracle to help avoid a debilitating punishment later in the week.

Finally Pittsburgh is unable to convert, but worse news is they have chewed up the entire eleven minutes of game clock, leaving 0:06 on the clock. Cursing his fate, GPa immediately gets in the shower, as he prepares to drive into the Louisiana region to play blackjack at the riverboat casinos, as that is the only remaining hope left to possibly save his ass from the now even bigger hole he has dug for himself. With the heavy action on JAX failing him, being correct on the over was not helping at all, as it was only represented in a parlay.

As the sick thoughts raced through GPa's head as he lathered up, strange things began to happen. He could hear the crowd erupting on the TV in the other room, and the phone was ringing madly. He thought, what could this be? Hurriedly stepping form the shower, he is greeted to replays of JAX BLOCKING THE FG, AND RACING THE 75 OR SO YDS TO THE OTHER ENDZONE WITH NO TIME LEFT, TO EARN A MOST IMPROBABLE 30-21 WIN and COVER, thereby avoiding certain disaster. Hit JAX straight , and JAX/OVER parlay, and lived to see another day.

BTW, last night was pretty epic as well, with 21 points in the last 1:30 or so.

Also remember the bad beats, with equal gusto, most notably, Florida (-7) a few weeks ago beating UK by 8 when UK scored on the games final play, and the coaches agreeing to forego th XP since there was no time left, so no onside kick was possible.

For every bad beat loser, there is someone on the other side who benefitted. Great drama is really why we keep doing this, though few will admit it.
