Since 1992 there have been a documented six cases in which a team was ahead by 14 or more points at halftime, proceeded to lose, and was then installed a home underdog the following week. Only one of those six teams won the next Sunday. That’s the history facing Jacksonville today. Mark Brunnell was 23-of-27 for 272 yards without an interception and the Jaguars still lost. Jacksonville lost despite the opponent’s starting quarterback, Rodney Peete, threw for just 19 yards. How does a team with Jack Delhomme (2 picks) beat you ! when you lead 17-0 in the 3rd quarter? Nothing fluky about Buffalo’s blowout over New England. Drew Bledsoe directed scoring drives of 80 and 90 yards with his first two possessions. If I’m a Jacksonville fan I would be seriously concerned. 13 rookies made the team and Jimmy Smith is still suspended. I know last week was a very emotional victory for Buffalo with double-revenge and the Lawyer Milloy story added plenty of intrigue. Jacksonville is 1-6 SU in their last seven games and the Jags were not exactly strong anywhere in 2002. #25 in total offense; #27 against the run; #24 in protection (sacks); #28 in passing. I’ll buy Buffalo down to -2 1/2 and lay 6/5 or 6 1/2/5 (-120 or -130).

Pick: Buffalo -2.5

Today the National Sports Advisors look for Buffalo to cover as -2.5 point favorites, when they take on Jacksonville in Florida.
In 2002, the Buffalo Bills had a potent offense and poor defense in struggling to a .500 record. After its 2003 season opener, Buffalo looks like it may be solid on both sides of the ball.
Buffalo added linebacker Takeo Spikes, defensive tackle Sam Adams and most recently, safety Lawyer Milloy in hopes of improving its defense. Those three players did just that in the Bills' opener on Sunday. Adams had a 37-yard interception return for a touchdown, Milloy forced an interception, recorded a sack and got in on five tackles, and Spikes had two interceptions as the Bills routed the Patriots 31-0.
Jacksonville looked like it was on the way to winning its opener last Sunday, but suffered the biggest second-half collapse in team history in falling 24-23 at Carolina. The Panthers scored five times over the final 22 minutes -- including a safety off a blocked punt -- and the Jaguars squandered a 17-0 lead.
One bright spot for Jacksonville was the play of quarterback Mark Brunell, who was on the verge of being traded, cut or benched throughout training camp. Statistically, Brunell played the third-best game of his career, going 23-of-27 for 272 yards and two touchdowns. His passer rating was 133.3, behind only a pair of outstanding games he played in the 2000 season.
So why BUFFALO? Well, many people are still wondering if Buffalo is truly as good as they looked last sunday or if New England just played that bad. We are of the firm belief that Buffalo is really that good. They have all the tools they need to go deep into the playoffs and have a realistic shot at the Super Bowl. Jacksonville, on the other hand, is a long ways off from that level. We do not look for a Buffalo letdown today and we'll lay the -2.5 points.

NFL FREEBIE: WASHINGTON Did you see Patrick Ramsey last week against the Jets? The former Tulane QB connected on 12 of his first 13 passes and led the Skins in out-gaining the Jets 327-158. The Falcons went into Dallas and came away with a win and while the Cowboys have capable WR the Atlanta secondary will be truly tested today by Coles and the rest of his running mates. Doug Johnson was able to exploit the Dallas defensive secondary last week in the 3rd quarter but this week gets a good look at cover expert Champ Bailey. There are a couple of milestones getting played out today: The Redskins haven’t started a season 2-0 since the elder George Bush was in office and Spurrier would love to nail that one down. Dan Reeves is going for career win #200 this afternoon. There is also a system at work here: NFL Game 2 hosts laying 6 points or less are 9-20-2 ATS falling to 5-15-1 ATS if the home team played last week as a dog.
