I would have to give 5/2 odds that Girardi is gone mid season.
If he does a Billy Martin& snaps on Jeter for some odd reason, who do you think the players would rally around; their manager or their Captain??

Girardi is the best choice if they are going to re-haul with some newer players.
Mattingly would have been the best choice if they were going to try and keep the core players.
Looks like the decision was to overhaul, cause there is no way that all the vets are coming back now IMO.

Originally posted by wayne1218I Totally agree, if he tries to give shit to anyone like Jeter, he will be fucked. They wanted and loved Mattingley and management saying screw you again to the players and now Mattingley leaving, is NOT going to sit well in that clubhouse. I do not see this as a positive at all, i really don't. Giradi is best with a young team he can coach. If he tries coaching these guys, they will ignore him (IMO)!
IF (and this is a big IF) now that ARod has walked, what the team make-up will be. It is not like there are big name 1B and 3B FA out there that the Yanks can slot in to make up the offense lost (does someone have a free agent link???). So maybe "these guys" aren't the guys Girardi will be coaching.
Maybe Abreu is gone (without ARod behind him is he the payer the Yanks need?), Maybe Posada is gone, mayeb they are releasing or trading and eating salary of Giambi, maybe they are not resigning Pettitte.
So they team COULD be very young and very Girardi.

So if these holes are filled with younger talent or different talent the impact of the manager decision may not be so bad.
What if they move Kennedy, Sanchez, Ohlendorf, (any of the starters that had to pitch like DeSalvo, Clippard, Rasner, Karstens), as well as minor league talent for players:
Florida: Cabrera, Willis, etc.
Minn: Santana (may want to get young talent before he walks)
Balt: Tejada (rumored to want out)
Stl: Pujols (issues with LaRussa)
Bost: Lowell (ex yankee who wants to stay in Boston, but money talks)
I guess all I am saying is "these guys" here may not be the same guys tomorrow2012 - 2013 NCAAF

Dunn (although another defensive liability at 1st who strikes out a ton is not a great idea)
Lowell (But can't be expected to "replace" Arods numbers
Jones and Hunter (we sort of have a little logjam out there, but like these two better then Abreu even at $4M more a year)
Pettitte (the best veteren out there to stabilize the young staff, and a lefty)
Rivera (even at 38 the best choice out there at closer)
Linebrink, Riske and Vizciano (all have their warts, but the best of the worst I think)2012 - 2013 NCAAF
