  • Chado's "BIG" CFL Pick for Friday Night!!!

Well at least I know the CFL treats me very well. LOVE this game tonight guys and I will explain why. Here are the CFL standings with each team having only 2 games left:

    EASTERN Team GP W L T PTS
    Winnipeg 16 9 6 1 19
    Toronto 16 9 7 0 18
    Montreal 16 7 9 0 14
    Hamilton 16 2 14 0 4

    WESTERN Team GP W L T PTS
    B.C. 16 12 3 1 25
    Saskatchewan 16 11 5 0 22
    Calgary 16 7 8 1 15
    Edmonton 16 5 10 1 11

I explained about this last week and I will explain it again. We can break things down like this. In the West, B.C. just needs to beat the 2-14 Tiger-Cats as 13 pt favorites tomorrow night (which they will) and they have clinched 1st place no matter what in the West. This means that Saskatchewan also will know they have 2nd place locked up and that is also said and done after B.C.'s win. So with this being said B.C. gets a first round bye and Saskatchewan will host Calgary in the West semi regardless. The only thing that can change is in the East. Winnipeg plays in Toronto on Saturday afternoon in a battle for 1st and 2nd (neither Montreal nor Edmonton can catch either of them). BUT and the BUT here is if Edmonton can win both of their final games and Montreal loses both of theirs than Edmonton can make the playoffs as their is a "cross-over" in CFL with regards to points. I know this can be very confusing so you guys may want to read what I just typed again. This is going to be a "meaningless" game for Saskatchewan while Edmonton needs 2 wins in their final 2 games to make the playoffs and leap over Montreal in the East. Montreal has lost their star QB Anthony Calvillo for the rest of the season and are also 9 point underdogs @ Calgary on Saturday night. So pretty much what I am getting at is if Edmonton can beat Saskatchewan @ home tomorrow night (as its a meaningless game for Saskatchewan and wouldnt be surprised if they will be resting their players) and Montreal loses to Calgary (as 9 pointt underdogs) than Edmonton is still VERY alive with both teams having one game remaining next weekend. Edmonton knows they have a great chance at making the playoffs cause if they beat Saskatchewan than they play the worst team in the CFL in the Hamilton Ti-Cats in their final game while Montreal has to go on the road and play Winnipeg who is no push over as they will still be fighting for 1st in the East. Make sense? To me it does and feel free to ask me any questions but I am going big here on Edmonton as Saskatchewan will have NOTHING to play for and the Esks have EVERYTHING to play for!!!

    244 Edmonton Eskimos +4.0 (-110) (3 units )

    244 Edmonton Eskimos MONEYLINE (+165) (1 unit )

    B.C. @ HAMILTON - STARTS @ 6:30 PM EST
    SASKATCHEWAN @ EDMONTON - STARTS @ 9:30 PM EST

Get on this ASAP as line may shift to a pick em and maybe even have the Esks favored by gametime after B.C. wins. The line was @ 5.0 earlier in the week and has already went down a full point. The reason why the Esks are still underdogs is because B.C. hasnt won yet but I have no worries that the best team in the CFL can beat the worst team in the CFL as 13 point favorites knowing they can clinch 1st place with a win and end Saskatchewan's chances at catching them.

PS - Will post NHL selection(s) in the morning....

AS ALWAYS, GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!
SOBER SINCE MARCH 28TH OF 2007!!!

Chado's NHL Picks for Friday Night!!!

Started off yesterday going 3-0 in the early NHL games but ended up losing the last 3 so went 3-3 for -0.45 units. Minny lost in a shootout and I believe I am now 1-5 in them this season. Now thats a huge swing in my units. Anyway, there are 5 games on the ice for this evening and I like these selections:

51 Vancouver Canucks (-105) (1 unit ) OT included ML

              53/54 Montreal Canadiens / Carolina Hurricanes UNDER 6.0 (-130) (1 unit ) OT included

55 Buffalo Sabres (+110) (1 unit ) OT included ML

              59/60 Colorado Avalanche / Calgary Flames OVER 6.0 (-105) (1 unit ) OT included

AS ALWAYS, GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!

Reduced Riders roster to face win-starved Eskimos
Darrell Davis , CanWest News Service
                            Published: Friday, October 26, 2007
One-third of the Saskatchewan Roughriders' starters won't be playing tonight's CFL game against the Edmonton Eskimos.

That's eight players who, if healthy, would be trying to eliminate the Eskimos from playoff contention. (An Eskimos loss or tie makes it mathematically impossible for Edmonton, which is fourth in the West at 5-10-1, to challenge for a wild-card berth in the East.)

"I'm not looking at (resting our players),'' Roughriders head coach Kent Austin said. "We have some players who can't play because of injuries, but I'm looking to field the best team we can.''

The Roughriders are still fielding an altered lineup for their final road game of the regular season, a game that might actually be meaningless. Currently on a four-game winning streak, Saskatchewan sits second in the West with an 11-5-0 record, needing to win its final two games to have a chance at first place, but only if the B.C. Lions lose their final two games. By kickoff of tonight's game at Commonwealth Stadium, first place might already be out of reach because the Lions will have completed their game against the lowly Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

"You've got to be ready to play,'' said Roughriders quarterback Kerry Joseph.

Joseph is expected to be the starting quarterback, although Austin told reporters he expected to get some playing time for backup quarterback Marcus Crandell. Joseph has started every game this season. He was asked if it was important to start all 18 regular-season contests.

"Nahh, it's not important for me,'' said Joseph. "Well, I don't want to say that because if I start 18 games it means I'm healthy, and that's important, but it's not a statistic that matters to me.

"Health-wise, it's important, so let me clarify that. Coaches make that decision. If they feel they want to rest a guy for the playoffs or they want to play a guy, coaches make that decision. That's out of your control, but if I get a choice, I want to start.''

Linebacker Reggie Hunt and Maurice Lloyd, cornerback James Johnson and tailback Wes Cates are among the wounded starters who would probably play if this were a playoff contest. They might return for the regular-season finale Nov. 3 against the visiting Toronto Argonauts, but they should certainly be ready for a post-season contest in Regina - a Nov. 11 semifinal against the Calgary Stampeders or, if the Roughriders finish first, a Nov. 18 final against B.C.

"I think sitting our starters for the last two games is a mistake,'' said Austin. "This is not baseball, with 162 games, or hockey, with 82 games. We've got 18 games. And it's the most intricate team game that has been created.''

The Roughriders were in a similar situation last season; coming into Edmonton for a meaningless finale, former Saskatchewan head coach Danny Barrett rested almost all of his starters. Edmonton won 20-18, but the Roughriders got playing time for some of their newer players. And Saskatchewan recovered sufficiently to defeat the home-town Stampeders 30-21 one week later in the West semifinal.

One of the starters who appeared in last year's finale was defensive end Fred Perry, who was a candidate to win the sack race and become the CFL's outstanding defensive player, but he was blanked before spending the second half on Saskatchewan's sideline.

"I was getting cheated out of the player of the year award, but I still felt I could get the sack title,'' said Perry. "(Barrett) gave me a half to do it. He would have taken me out at halftime no matter what, but (the Eskimos) didn't want me to get it; they were double-teaming me then, so I learned what to expect this year. Now I'm getting double- and triple-teamed.''
