Hamilton Tiger Cats at Saskatchewan Roughriders (OTB)
    Sunday, Oct. 21, 3 p.m. ET

Hamilton put up a good fight for most of last Sunday’s game before things with Saskatchewan turned into a good fight of another variety. The Riders had more players ejected but walked away a winner in an emotional battle.

Ignoring the second-half shenanigans for a moment, Saskatchewan won with an overpoweringly balanced offensive attack. Kerry Joseph opened the game with repeated bombs to Andy Fantuz, and the pair's success opened up the middle for Wes Cates and Joseph to later exploit.

The Riders' onslaught prompted Hamilton to completely rearrange its secondary for this Sunday's rematch in Regina, never a good sign against a more talented team. The fact that cornerback Dwight Anderson was removed from the team after a disastrous outing last weekend doesn't help.

The line for this game was delayed due to questions over Casey Printers' wrenched back. But has Hamilton's offense been any better with him under center than Richie Anderson? Saskatchewan can clinch a postseason home game this weekend and will play with a bit of hate after the scuffles at Ivor Wynne Stadium. But with the spread likely to reach double digits against the CFL's whipping boys, I feel better taking the under on a cold and windy day in Regina.

Struggling Matsuzaka carries Boston's hopes in Game 7

BOSTON -- Dice-K never pitched in a game THIS big.

The $103 million pitcher takes the mound for Boston on Sunday night in Game 7 against Cleveland and Jake Westbrook when the Boston Red Sox try to cap their comeback from a 3-1 deficit in the AL championship series.

Daisuke Matsuzaka starred in big games in Japan, even pitched a no-hitter in his national high school championship game. Now he can pitch the Red Sox back into the World Series.

''I think Dice is very capable of coming out and pitching a gem,'' J.D. Drew said after leading Boston to a 12-2 victory in Game 6 Saturday night.

The books list the Red Sox at +280 to win the World Series.

Matsuzaka was a sensation at the start of the season after the Red Sox spent $51,111,111 to acquire his rights from the Seibu Lions, then signed him to a $52 million six-year contract. But he faded late in the season and lasted just 4 2-3 innings in each of his two postseason starts: a 6-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels in Game 2 of the AL division series and a 4-2 loss in Game 3 against Cleveland and Westbrook.

Matsuzaka was still staring into his locker more than an hour after his latest loss, barely moving except to clasp his fingers behind his neck and cup his chin in his left hand. But he was smiling and playing long toss in the outfield during Friday's workout day. And he has his success on the big stage to fall back on.

He threw 250 pitches to win a 17-inning game in Japan's Koshien high school tournament. He played on his country's Olympic teams in 2000 and 2004. Then in March 2006, he was the MVP of the first World Baseball Classic, a tournament with star pitchers such as Jake Peavy, Carlos Zambrano and Johan Santana.

But his late-season struggles have him on a short leash should he falter in Game 7. Josh Beckett would likely relieve on short rest - he threw four innings of relief for Florida against the Chicago Cubs in the seventh game of the 2003 NLCS. Beckett had won Game 5 - just as he would do for the Red Sox this year - and came back on two days' rest to throw 45 pitches against the Cubs.

''We will go in knowing that basically with an attitude that all hands are on deck, but he will certainly get the nod Sunday,'' pitching coach John Farrell said Friday. ''And we go in Sunday, provided we get there, confident that he's going to be able to provide us quality innings to get us, hopefully, into the sixth, seventh inning.''

            Cleveland at Boston
Hitting outside the middle of the lineup doesn't look to be a problem anymore for the Red Sox. J.D. Drew (3 hits, 5 RBI) got things going with his grand slam in the first last night and was joined by Jacoby Ellsbury (RBI), Julio Lugo (2 RBI) and Dustin Pedroia (2 hits, 2 runs) in contributing to Boston's 12-2 rout. Suddenly it's the Cleveland bats that have gone silent as the top of the lineup (Sizemore, Cabrera and Hafner) went a combined 0-for-12. Even Eric Gagne was able to work a perfect inning, which hasn't happened in a while. Boston clearly has the momentum heading into tonight's Game Seven even with Daisuke Matsuzaka (0-1, 6.75 in postseason) on the mound. The Red Sox look like the pick (-165) to finish off the comeback according to Dunkel, which has Boston favored by 1 1/2. Dunkel Pick: Boston (-165). Here are all of today's games.

              Sunday's key NHL matchup notes

Vancouver Canucks at Columbus Blue Jackets (-120, 5)

Friday marked the first time since the season opener that both Daniel and Henrik Sedin failed to register a point in the same game. The two have combined for five goals and 11 assists this season.

Vancouver had won four straight against Columbus before going 0-1-1 in the final two meetings last season.

Colorado Avalanche at Minnesota Wild (-150, 5 ½)

Backup Jose Theodore has allowed four goals in each of his road games this season, but he's 2-1-1 with one shutout and a 1.41 GAA in four career games against the Wild.

Minnesota's Niklas Backstrom, meanwhile, continues to establish himself as one of the top netminders in the NHL. He's 4-0-1 with a 1.38 GAA this season, including 3-0-0 with a 0.67 GAA at home. In four career games against Colorado, he's 3-0-1 with a 2.16 GAA

All four of these teams' games at the Xcel Energy Center last season were decided after regulation. Minnesota won twice in overtime and Colorado won twice in shootouts.

Overall, the Avalanche had a 4-2-2 advantage in the season series.

Ice picks: Sunday's best NHL bets

Vancouver Canucks at Columbus Blue Jackets (-120, 5)

Anyone looking at Pascal Leclaire and Roberto Luongo’s numbers this season would swear there’s been some sort of mix-up. Leclaire has been stellar, leading the league in goals against average (1.26) and shutouts (3). He hasn’t allowed a goal at home and is second in the league with a .953 save percentage.

Although Luongo hasn’t been his usual self lately, this matchup still reeks of a low-scoring affair. Columbus and Vancouver have played under the total in each of their last five meetings dating back to March 2006, and the Blue Jackets have played under the total in four of their last six home games.

Columbus also owns the No. 1 penalty kill in the league at 93.8 percent.

Both Vancouver and Columbus rank in the bottom half of the league for offensive scoring and will have to capitalize on opportunities tonight that might be few and far between.

                Pick: Under 5

Colorado Avalanche at Minnesota Wild (-150, 5 ½)

While it’s true that streaks come to an end, it appears none of them will be threatened tonight at the Xcel Energy Center.

Colorado has yet to win on the road and Minnesota has yet to lose at home.

The Wild hold the edge in goaltending, defense, penalty kill and faceoffs. Look for their strong play this season to continue as they face an Avalanche team coming off an embarrassing 5-3 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks.

Niklas Backstrom has become one of the league’s elite netminders early on, posting a stingy 1.38 GAA with a 4-0-1 record and a .945 save percentage. Theodore, on the other hand, finds himself near the bottom of the league with an .879 save percentage, 2.97 GAA and only one win this season. Budaj has been even worse (.882 save % and 3.40 GAA).

Minnesota credits its loud fans and home-ice atmosphere for their team’s success. Expect much more of the same tonight as this division rivalry continues.

                Pick: Minnesota -150

                  Vancouver at Columbus
After recording just one shutout over his first two seasons, Columbus goalie Pascal Leclaire already has three this season. Leclaire hasn't allowed a goal in either of his two home starts as the surprising Blue Jackets have blanked Anaheim and Phoenix. He picked up 21 saves in his latest shutout win at Buffalo (3-0) on Friday. Columbus is off to its best start (3-2-1) since joining the NHL in 2000 and has been bolstered on offense by the play of Rick Nash, who leads the team with four goals and eight points. The Canucks are coming off a bad home loss (4-2) to the lower-rated Kings on Friday. Goalie Roberto Luongo has struggled as his 3.15 GAA is down nearly a full goal from last season (2.29). Columbus looks like a good pick (-115) in this one according to Dunkel, which has the Blue Jackets favored by 1 1/2. Dunkel Pick: Columbus (-115). Here are all of today's games.
