      DOMINANCE

Curt Schilling pitched seven masterful innings, David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez hit back-to-back homers and Boston completed a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels with a 9-1 win on Sunday. TRICKY SOX

The Angels have lost nine straight playoff games to Boston following a 9-1 loss on Sunday and seven straight postseason games overall. The Red Sox beat the Angels in the last three games of the 1986 ALCS and swept them in the first round of the 2004 playoffs.

      SPEAKING

''I don't think we're ready to see Roger Clemens' last steps off the mound, or Joe Torre's last game. We have a lot to play for.'' - Johnny Damon, after the Yankees rallied past Cleveland 8-4 Sunday night, closing within 2-1 in their first-round AL playoff series.

      SEASONS Oct. 8

1973 - Rusty Staub's two home runs powered the New York Mets to a 9-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds and a 2-1 lead in the NLCS. Pete Rose of the Reds and Bud Harrelson of the Mets scuffled at second base in the fifth inning after Rose slid hard into the base.

1986 - Mike Scott equaled a playoff record with 14 strikeouts and threw a five-hitter as the Houston Astros defeated the New York Mets 1-0 in the first game of the NLCS. Glenn Davis opened the second inning with a home run off Dwight Gooden.

2000 - Bobby J. Jones pitched the sixth complete game one-hitter in postseason history as the Mets eliminated the Giants with a 4-0 win in Game 4 of their NL division series. It was the first one-hit shutout in the postseason since Boston's Jim Lonborg beat St. Louis in the 1967 World Series.

          Cleveland at NY Yankees
The Rocket fizzled last night, but the Yankee bats finally came alive and kept New York in the series with an 8-4 win. The Yankee offense will probably need another strong performance tonight to support Chien-Ming Wang, who will be pitching on short rest. Wang gets the call over Mike Mussina largely because of his record at home (10-4, 2.75 this season; 26-9, 3.04 in career). But Wang has only pitched on short rest one other time in his career and the Indian bats chewed him up in Game One (8 runs, 9 hits in 4 2/3 innings). The Indians will go with Paul Byrd, opting not to bring back C.C. Sabathia on 3-days' rest. That is risky given that Byrd was just 3-5 with a 6.10 ERA against teams with winning records this season. He also did not finish strong, going 2-3 with a 5.21 ERA in September, including an outing against the Yankees in which he gave up seven runs and seven hits over two innings. With the Yankees regaining some offensive confidence, New York looks like a good pick (-201) to even the series tonight according to Dunkel, which has the Yankees favored by 1. Dunkel Pick: NY Yankees (-201). Here are all of today's games.

            New Jersey at Ottawa
The Senators eliminated the Devils in last year's playoffs en route to their first trip to the Stanley Cup. They have started off just as hot this season, going 3-0 while outscoring the opposition 9-5. Martin Gerber has filled in nicely for injured starter Ray Emery (wrist surgery) in net and is coming off a 2-0 shutout over the Rangers in which he stopped 35 shots. Daniel Alfredsson has supplied much of the offense with his league-leading four goals and had success against the Devils (5 goals, 4 assists in 9 games) last season. Ottawa looks like a good pick (-165) in this one according to Dunkel, which has the Senators favored by 1 1/2. Dunkel Pick: Ottawa (-165). Here are all of today's games.

Ice picks: Monday's best NHL bets

Washington Capitals at New York Islanders (-103, 6)

Life is good for Islanders center Mike Comrie. Not only is the newly-acquired free agent rumored to be dating Hillary Duff, he is off to a blistering start to his season. Comrie scored two goals for the second straight game in Saturday's 3-2 victory over Buffalo and his line of Bill Guerin and Ruslan Fedotenko have already combined for 16 points in two games.

Alexander Ovechkin and the Caps are off to their best start in five years. Ovechkin scored his first goal of the season Saturday, giving him 200 points in his brief NHL career. The Washington sniper had two goals in four games against the Islanders last season and he has four goals and two assists in seven career games.

                  Pick: Over

New Jersey Devils at Ottawa Senators (-159, 5)

About the only thing that could slow down the Senators today is that sleepy feeling after eating too much Thanksgiving turkey. This marks Thanksgiving weekend north of the border and Canadians across the country are feasting in celebration.

The Sens won't be able to afford a slow start against the team they knocked out of the playoffs last season, who'll be looking for payback in this afternoon matchup. Ottawa is off to a strong start, outscoring opponents 9-5 while winning its first three games.

After dropping its season opener against the Lightning, New Jersey rebounded with a 4-1 win at Florida on Saturday thanks in part to center John Madden's first two goals of the year.

                  Pick: Senators -159

Edmonton Oilers at Detroit Red Wings (-219, 5 1/2)

The undefeated Oilers' No. 1 goal for tonight's game is to try and shut down Henrik Zetterberg. The Wings forward has a goal and four assists in two games this season and the Red Wings are an amazing 37-1-2 since the end of the lockout when Zetterberg has a multipoint game.

Dwayne Roloson should be back in the crease for Edmonton after watching from the bench on Saturday. Roloson was the main reason behind the Oilers' first-round upset of the Red Wings in the 2005-06 playoffs.

If the contest ends up going to a shootout look out of the Oilers. They were 2-1-1 against the Red Wings last season, winning the final two contests in penalty shots.

                  Pick: Detroit -219

                    New Jersey at Ottawa (-161)

While the Senators won the postseason series against the Devils last year, New Jersey went 3-1-0 against Ottawa in the regular season.
