HOT
Kelvim Escobar (Los Angeles Angels) - The right-hander has earned victories in five of his last six appearances and he has limited opponents to three runs or less during four of those wins. Escobar is listed as a -159 road favorite against the Orioles tonight. Baltimore will counter with Daniel Cabrera who is winless in his last four outings.
Jon Lester (Boston Red Sox) - The young lefty beat cancer at the beginning of the year and now is winning big on the baseball diamond. The Red Sox have won seven of the eight games he has started including each of his last five. Lester is no stranger to Tampa Bay - he has faced them three times since the end of July and BoSox backers have cashed in each time. Tonight's contest is at Fenway Park and Boston is a -201 favorite.
Justin Verlander (Detroit Tigers) - The righty has won three straight outings and has only given up two runs total in just under 22 innings in that span. Verlander shut down the Rangers in his only previous outing against them this year (June 6), scattering five hits in seven shutout innings. Detroit is listed as a -218 favorite and the total is set at 9 ½.
COLD
Gil Meche (Kansas City Royals) - Meche has been dogged in seven of his last nine appearances and the Royals have suffered a loss in all nine of those contests. Kansas City has managed no more than five runs in all those outings and the over/under is at 1-8 during that span. Books have listed Kansas City as a surprise -113 home fave against the Twins. Minnesota will send Carlos Silva to the hill tonight and he has beaten KC in both of his starts against them this season.
Miguel Batista (Seattle Mariners) - The struggling Mariners have lost the last four times he has taken the mound and he certainly should take part of the blame. His ERA is close to 9.00 in those outings and he'll be facing a normaly light-hitting Oakland team that is batting .292 against him this season. Seattle will try to avoid the sweep as +114 home dogs.
