Thanks for the Good Lucks and Your Prayers

Thanks everyone for thinking of me. Your well wishes and prayers are really appreciated, especially now as this gets closer. The surgery is scheduled for 7:30 AM PDT Thursday and is supposed to last about three and a half hours.

Why did they have you on predisone? And they couldn't do a blood vessel fusion to bring in some new blood to the area? Are the sockets made differently now? Dr. James I believe in Alabama the one who works with Athletes is a good Dr. to go see IMO. If they replace the socket again what's to keep it from breaking up again?
They had me on predisone for my left leg. Eight years ago, I got up out of bed one morning with my left leg first and it just collapsed. It was like I didn't have a quad muscle. I can't bend that leg standing up or I'll be standing down. All the MRI's and Cat Scans are normal and to this day, no one knows why this happened, although they think some brain waves didn't get to the nerves to tell the muscle what to do.

That's why the doctors at the University of California Medical Center put me on Predisone, because they didn't know what else to do. They didn't do a blood vessel fusion because, even after the bone had died, there was no way of knowing that's what happened, until my face started to look a little like Barry Bonds. Even after I stopped taking the predisone, there was still no way of knowing what it had done, until my shoulder started hurting about nine months after I stopped taking the predisone.

The surgeon I have, a Dr, Jensen, does nothing but shoulders and also teaches at Stanford, so he better be good. His practice is Sports Medicine, but only for shoulders, so I'm OK with him. I don't know what the sockets are made of now, it's some type of teflon and the ball and shaft are titainium .

Monte asked, If they replace the socket again what's to keep it from breaking up again? That's the problem. NOTHING, which is why this is the second time for my right shoulder. It's not the socket that breaks, its the bone the socket is attached to that can break up but most of the problem is from the bone that holds the shaft together. All I know is that he showed me on the x-ray where the ball has slipped away from the socket by a couple of inches. That's what makes it hurt now. Hope that helps Monte, because all I know is what I'm told.

        Final Parley Record

After losing 3 units on Sunday, the parley plays finished ahead 51 units. I'm happy with that.

I did play a couple of parleys tonight, but I didn't study enough to feel I should post them. They won't be part of the parley record. I played San Diego/Milwaukee +366, Oakland/LA Angels +268 and San Diego/Washing +437.

Did they check you for a possible stroke? Back when you had the leg issue?

And what about supplements for the bone so it won't break? Like Potassium, Vitamin D and Calcium?

Not trying to be noisy just trying to get a better feel for what's going on etc.

Monte. No problem. I'm a little surprised there aren't any real doctors here that could answer your questions and my anwsers. Back when I had the leg issue is still right now. Nothing has changed. The leg is no different now than the day that happened, except for atophy..

It couldn't have been a stroke because just the quad muscle stopped working. And all my bones are fine, except of course for the ones that had their blood supply cut off. Even the best bones in the world, will die without blood.

                monte,
supplements alone will not help a bone density issue....actually not even bone density is equivalant to fracture protection of that bone....The thigh bone is actually made up of cortical bone (hard bone) whereas the spine is made up of trabecular (soft/flexible bone).....The bone turnover on a cortical bone is much longer than trabecular.....Turnover i believe is every 2/3 months....what happens is the we have osteoclasts that dig out the bone and osteoblasts that re-fill these bones...What happens in osteoporosis the blasts can not keep up to the clasts, thus causing a weaker microarchitecture......More men than ever have osteopenia or porosis and this can only be resolved with a drug called a bisphosphante........The vitamin d and calcium aid in the process, but alone do little

                  Thanx TTTony
Note:bisphosphante has had issues of side effects concerning jaw problems.
