  • Tonight's Brewers Rookie Starter

His name is Yavani Gallardo and he's the rare rookie making his first major league appearance that is favored.

Here's what I know. He is considered Milwaukee's best pitching prospect since Sheets. He's been dominant all three years in the minors and his recent stats are off the charts.

He leads ALL minor leaguers in strikeouts (amazing for a guy at AAA) with 110 in only 77 innings. Most importantly, he has great control for a power pitcher, walking only 28. That's a brilliant four-to-one strikeout to walk ratio, pretty much unheard of for a 21-year old.

I don't bet games involving first time pitchers but this guy is going to be very good, if not tonight then sometime soon.

Like i said in the Homer Bailey thread. I will be betting on this guy too, just like i did Homer because young stud pitchers usually fool everyone in their 1st start (IMO).

No doubt Gallardo has talent. He's only 21 though. He's one of the best pitching prospects in the minors, here were the others.
              Tim Lincecum 5.25 ERA
              Homer Baily 5.73 ERA
              Andrew Miller 3.63 ERA
Personally, I like betting against mediocre first time starters, so I'm staying away.

                Didn't those 3 guys go (2-1)?

Yes they did. Andrew Miller pitched great. Baily pitched pretty well that first outing, and Lincecum got shelled. It's a crap shoot in my opinion.

This kid is supposed to be the real deal, one of the best prospect in baseball. IMO, Homer Bailey is a little overrated due to low k/w ratio, in terms of this year. Tim and Andrew are solid.

I believe that Gallardo is in a great spot tonight. Opening at home against a team that struggles to score. In addition, Lowry has been far from lights out this year. Milwaukee is a great baseball city so the place will be buzzing. I like the spot here and agree with Wayne in terms of the spot here.

                    Good luck all!

Just to put this in perspective. Gallarado lost 2-1 in his last outing, in a pitchers duel against Anthony Reyes. That's 0-8 Anthony Reyes, gave up 5 runs in the first inning yesterday, Anthony Reyes.

The giving up 2 runs isn't bad and Reyes is a pitcher nobody expected to be (0-8). Didn't you have him on your fantasy team? lol
