Very solid picking! I haven't kept up with the other football yet, so I will stay on the sidelines and root for you. Your takes have been right on, keep uo the great work!

4-0 on the 1* plays and 1-3 on the 0.5* plays... oops...

      Record: 5-3 (+8.28*)

      0.5* US/El Salvador Draw +400

Another value play. ES has a good chance to qualify as a third place team, assuming they don't get blown out. So given their missing starters I wouldn't be surprised if they just bunker all match, trying to keep the scoreline decent and hoping for other results to fall their way. The US in the meantime has already qualified for the next round and should rest a number of regulars who have received yellow cards in the past 2 matches. The US won't lose this game, but if the poor finishing continues along with their inability to break a bunker, they'll have to settle for a single point.

      1* Guatemala +130

I know this sounds like a broken record, but this is not the same T&T squad that earned their #67 world ranking. Guatemala won't let up, but ideally El Salvador gains a tie in the first game and forces Guatemala to earn a positive result.

Boy was I wrong about the US. They came out gangbusters last night and impressed. As far as I'm concerned, they'll win this tournament. That was an easy loss to swallow. Guatemala, on the other hand... Up by a goal and up by a man and they couldn't close the deal... sigh

        Record: 5-5 (+6.78*)

        1* Mexico -250

Mexico won't lose this one. They fell asleep at the wheel last game, but they're still in a different class than Panama, who has already clinched a spot in the next round. Houston will be rocking with crazy Mexican fans.

        0.5* Honduras -133

Same story here. Honduras is looking to win the group and stay opposite the US for as long as possible. Meanwhile Cuba doesn't have the depth to play their 3rd game in 6 days, but they need a win, not a draw, to keep themselves alive.

I won the Honduras over Cuba bet, but the best part was that 2 Cuban players defected before the game started:

              http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/...n/4888527.html

              No wonder they lost 5-0

              For this weekend:

              Record: 7-5 (+8.28*)

              1.5* USA -250

This US team looked like they were on a mission last time out and they are rightfully the favorites at this point having outscored their opponents 7-0 so far in 3 games. Panama put up a great fight in group C and deserved better than a 3rd place finish, but they'll be missing 3 starters for suspensions in this one and I really think the depth will catch up with them. To make matters worse, this game is in Foxboro where the US simply doesn't lose games. This will be my largest play of the tournament.

              1* Guatemala +275

I was impressed when Canada beat Costa Rica, then they go out and lose to Guadeloupe and Costa Rica falls on their face again to tie Haiti? Meanwhile, Guatemala survived the better group and gave the US its toughest match so far. There's no way Canada should be such a heavy favorite in this one.

              0.5* Costa Rica/Mexico DRAW +280

I only wish that Mexico were playing any team other than the overrated, under-achieving Ticos. I haven't been impressed by either team so far in this tournament and to be honest, Mexico should have finished 3rd in their group. And of course they get to play in Houston for one more game. They may survive this one, but I don't see them making the finals.

              0.5* Guadeloupe +600

I gotta figure there's a letdown for Honduras here after that 5-0 win and Guadeloupe has played everyone in this tournament tough. Maybe I'm just a sucker for the Cinderella team, but I'll try them out one more time.

No odds for the semifinal games yet, but I'm leaning towards the US and Guadeloupe. Just a record update this post.

                  Updated Record: 10-6 (+17.58*)

3 more games. The +600 payout was nice on Guadeloupe and they led almost the entire match.

                      Record: 10-6 (+17.58*)

                      0.5* USA -161

Ok, Canada is for real, my bad... That said, the US is on a roll right now and they're headed towards winning this tournament. Winner gets Lake Erie and the loser is forced to take Celine Dion once and for all. US is 6-0-4 against Canada since 1990, so I'll take the chance that the Nats can avoid a regulation draw in this one and that Canada will open things up and not just bunker down and play for PKs.

                      1* Guadeloupe +700

I hit a 5-to-1 dog, then a 6-to-1 dog, so 7 to 1? Sure, why not. Just based on current form, Guadeloupe is the team to take here at such steep odds. Mexico has scored 2 goals in regulation their last 3 games and they won't exactly have the home crowd at Soldier Field considering that the Americans will be rooting heavily for Guadeloupe.

Last game of the tournament is on Sunday. I think the US wins it.

                          11-7 (+17.08*)

                          1* USA +170

The US is now 7-0-1 against Mexico on friendly soil since 2000. Mexico somehow snuck by each of their knockout opponents, but they're not in good form and it will show on Sunday.

U S A! U S A! I was forced to tivo the game today and just saw the replay. I couldn't have drawn it up better myself! For all the complaining about underachieving American teams in international competition (Dream Team #12, WBC, Ryder Cup), this team steps up to the plate and performs whether filling the role of underdog or favorite.

For those who didn't see the game, the US came back from 1-0 down at half on a pk by Donovan and a BEAUTIFUL goal from Feilhaber to win 2-1.

Final Gold Cup Record: 12-7 (+18.78*)
